Cuba: An inspiration for the Caribbean

Antigua and Barbuda
and the rest of the Caribbean
can learn from the examples
of the late Fidel Castro, the
Cuban revolutionary leader,
as they too, seek to crave out
their own space and advance
their economic and social
development.
This is the observation

Veliz and guests at a function
to mark the anniversary
of the Cuban revolution.
“As we undergo our own
revolution in Antigua and
Barbuda, our economic revolution,
as we seek to transform
Antigua and Barbuda
into an economic powerhouse,
we can draw on the
experiences of Fidel Castro
Ruz, his brother, Raul, and
others who led the Cuban
revolution,” he noted.
He added that the Cuban
revolutionaries showed
significant strength of character,
significant stickability
recognizing that success
would not come overnight.
Browne stated that while
there may be some who are
of the view that Antigua and
Barbuda can be transformed
overnight, he is aware that
this is an impossible task.
“I have no doubt that we
have the resilience and the
skills to ultimately transform
the country into an economic
powerhouse. But, it requires
commitment of all,”
he declared.
The prime minister said
he is aware that not everyone
will ‘catch the vision’,
but that for him, what is important
is that the majority
of the people ‘buy in’ to this
vision.
In his brief remarks, Ambassador
Veliz noted that
Fidel Castro was inspired
by the works and teaching
of the Cuban National Hero,
