A Murder Is Announced, directed by Ann Jaroncyk and produced by Lou Dispenza will be performed at the Perley School on 51 North Street, Georgetown, MA on Feb. 24th, 25th, 26th, and March 3rd and 4th. Shows begin at 7:30 p.m. except for the Feb. 26th show, which is a matinee beginning at 2:00 p.m. An announcement in the local paper states the time and place when a murder is to occur in Miss Blacklock’s Victorian house. The victim is not one of the house’s several occupants, but an unexpected and unknown visitor. What follows is a classic Christie puzzle of mixed motives, concealed identities, a second death, a determined Inspector grimly following the twists and turns, and Miss Marple on hand to provide the final solution at some risk to herself in a dramatic confrontation just before the final curtain. The club meets monthly on the first Thursday of the month at noon. Members can check out a copy of the selected book at the library, pick a recipe (library staff will keep track to avoid duplicates), and prepare it for the program. Members sample lots of good food, talk about what worked and what didn’t, and select future cookbooks. The March cookbook is New England Open House Cookbook by Cape Cod resident Sarah Leah Chase. This coming season (2017) there is a 13 yr old division and 14/15A and 14/15B divisions in the Intertown Baseball League. Registration for 13 year old players will end on March 1 and 14/15 year old players on April 1. Player age is determined by age as of July 31, 2017. Players must live in or attend school in Newburyport. The 13 yr old division will begin late April and finish around July 4. The two 14/15 division will begin after the Freshman team is done around Memorial Day and finish in Late July. February 15 - 21, 2017 www.TheTownCommon.com Page announced details about the third annual Conservation Film Festival, which will occur Friday evening, March 3rd thru Sunday afternoon, March 5th. The free public event will take place at the refuge’s visitor center and headquarters complex in Newburyport. A diverse selection of award-winning, conservation-related films from across the world will be presented on the big screen in the visitor center auditorium. Films that will be screened during the festival focus on a broad range of local, national and international conservation topics. Here’s a quick rundown of just some of the films that are on the schedule. The Million Dollar Duck is a documentary that focuses on the strange and wonderful world of the Federal Duck Stamp Contest, the only juried, art competition run by the U.S. government. Ribbon of Sand, narrated by Meryl Streep, profiles the famed Outer Banks of the Carolina coast – a fragile environment not unlike the barrier beach on Plum Island. Return of the River follows a group of strong-minded, committed people as they attempt the impossible: to change public opinion of a town, and eventually the nation, to bring a dam down. Sonic Sea is about protecting life in our waters from the destructive effects of oceanic noise pollution. Shored Up is a documentary that takes a look at how development of our coastlines has put us in a tough predicament, and shows why it’s time to start looking for innovative solutions. Love Thy Nature, an award-winning film narrated by Liam Neeson, shows how deeply we’ve lost touch with nature and takes viewers on a cinematic journey through the beauty and intimacy of our relationship with the natural world. Of Ants and Men is a film about the life and extraordinary scientific odyssey of one of America’s greatest living thinkers, E.O. Wilson. A number of “critter pictures,” providing rare windows into the fascinating lives of wild animals, are sprinkled across the festival schedule. All film festival screenings are free and open to the public. Seating in the visitor center auditorium is limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis (with a capacity of 85). Erwin Music Scholarship. Applications will be accepted from January 15-March 1, 2017. The $500 scholarship can be used to support musical endeavors, including: music camp, new instrument/equipment, lessons, tuition, etc. Students must reside in York County, ME, Rockingham or Strafford County, NH, or Essex County, MA. The PJ Drive’s goal is to collect 10,000 pairs of new pajamas for children and teens in need. The Boston Bruins PJ Drive runs from February 1 through March 15, 2017. The library will be collecting new pajamas for babies, children and teens. ----------------------------------------------------------- ROWLEY - Spend your snow days streaming movies! The Rowley Public Library has two Verizon Jetpack 4G LTE Mobile Hotspots available to loan, which will give up to 15 Wi-Fi-enabled devices simultaneous access to your own secure, private Internet signal. Borrow them like you would any library materials for one week, and take a signal with you almost anywhere. The Library piloted loaning the devices over the summer, according to Library Director Pamela Jacobson, and they proved so popular with patrons that the program was continued. Many patrons have taken advantage of the free Wi-Fi signal to do schoolwork, job searches, or for entertainment. Call 978-948-2850 for more information or to make a reservation. ----------------------------------------------------------- ROWLEY - The Rowley Police Department is pleased to announce we will be hosting our sixth Citizen’s Police Academy beginning Wednesday March 8, 2017 and concluding Wednesday May 10, 2017 from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm. The Citizen Police Academy is designed to familiarize residents with the daily operation of the Rowley Police Department. Classes will cover a range of topics including CPR/AED, drug enforcement, crime scene investigation, traffic stops/crashes, firearms, OUI Detection and specialized units K9 and SWAT. Participants will also have the opportunity to tour the Middleton House of Corrections and complete a four hour ride along to observe police officers on patrol.
