Australia Day at
West Wyalong
Clay Target Club
Jeff Brettschneider took up his customary position as
number one shooter and fired the first shot in competition
for 2009 at the West Wyalong Clay Target Club on the
Australia Day long weekend.
The first event of the year saw four squads of shooters called to
the Sporting Clays layout and some excellent scores were posted.
Clive Foster and Wayne Ambrose won A and B grades respectively
when they finished with the perfect 50 from 50.
West Wyalong Clay Target Club is to host the Central Zone
Sporting Clay Championship in March and if these two shooters
can maintain their great form they could easily claim a
Championship title. Laurie Redfern was the AA grade winner
47/50 and the evergreen Bert Boyd showed his diversity of shooting
skills to score 39/50 and take out C grade.
Mark Payne fired up the Barbie and made sure everyone was well
fed before the squads were called for the 10 target Eye Opener
which was the beginning of the afternoon Down the Line program.
The warm, still conditions made for ideal shooting and ten
shooters shot 10/10 including locals Narelle and Wayne Ambrose,
Bert Boyd, Danny Rogers, Graham Duncan, Dozer Collins and Clive
Foster.
The 25 target Double Barrel Cash Divide saw some classy shooting
with AA graders Robert Lindsay, Graham Fairman, Danny Rogers,
Graham Duncan and Dozer Collins all shooting perfect scores.
Wayne Ambrose and newly promoted Michael Fyfe also shot
25/25 to take the A grade money. Laurie Redfern 24/25 won
B grade and Narelle Ambrose maintained her earlier form to win
C grade 24/25.
Dozer Collins is one of West Wyalong Clay Target Club’s best shots
and he emphasised this by shooting the 25 target Points Score
clean with a score of 75/75 to be the overall winner. Clive Foster
was too good in AA grade scoring 73/75, Picolo Fyfe won A grade
74/75 and Doug Murray shot really well to easily win B grade
74/75. There was quite a long shoot off to decide the winner in C
grade with new shooter Andrew Connellan eventually winning
91/96 from Narelle Ambrose who is shooting very well.
Wayne Ambrose seems to have made handicap shooting his
speciality and after a short shoot off won the 25 target Handicap
30/30, Ben Fairman claimed second 29/30 with Bruce Dent in
third place 28/29.
The final event for the day was 25 target Continental Cash Divide
and Dave Cooney, Danny Rogers and Dozer Collins shared the
AA grade prize money, Wayne Ambrose and Picolo Fyfe shared
the A grade pot with possibles and Adrian Hodge snared B grade
25/25, Narelle Ambrose was very happy with her day and completed
it nicely by taking out C grade 23/25.
All in all a great day of shooting and no one was surprised when
it was announced that Dozer Collins was the High Gun shooting
156/160 across all events.
