It is with much pleasure that I write this letter as a way of saying
thankyou to all those people who have made my days out in the
central Victorian region of Walmer such a pleasant experience.
The Walmer Gun Club (for those who have not been there before) is
situated beside Lewis Road, Maldon, just off the Maldon to Bendigo
Road. It comprises two traps and a tower. Nice and simple with five
shooting pads (no lanes) for each trap, and NO handicaps. The
background for this Club is such that orange fluro targets are used
and although I have some difficulty in seeing them at other clubs,
I find they are much easier to see once out of the traps at Walmer.
The one thing that really stands out when you arrive at this Club
is the “old fashioned Country hospitality”. Added to that is the
friendliness of the folks who shoot there, the absolute best in the
afternoon tea at a realistic price, nice clean country air, and the
shade afforded by two bloody big trees just outside the clubhouse.
What more could a shooter ever want?
I have only been to this Club twice (New Years & Labour Day in
March), but on each occasion I have thoroughly enjoyed myself,
even though my scores weren’t that flash. As it will be another nine
odd months before I can get back again, the 300km round trip from
home to club and back home again is very much worth it.
Once again, I would like to say thankyou to all who have made my
trips to Walmer such an enjoyable experience, in particular the
ladies who prepare such a magnificent “feast”, the guys who put on
the BBQ on New Years Day, long time President Alf James for
starting such a great little club, and all those who have been so
kind and forthcoming with advice. Oh, before I forget, thankyou
Jamie for inviting me in the first place, and a special thankyou also
goes to Chris Penno who, along with being in my squad, gave me
“a bit of a ribbing” because I had a rest from the single barrel event
on the Labour Day shoot. Thanks for the “nice words” Chris.
I look forward to the New Years day shoot next year, and watching
some of the best shooters in the region competing. Hopefully I’ll
learn something, and maybe I can improve my scores.
