Welcome to The Mill
We are fast approaching 2017 which
promises to be one of the most
exciting years at The Mill yet.
We are thrilled with the success of our Season of Dance
project and are delighted to be working in partnership
with Dancin’ Oxford for the first time in March 2016
to bring you Nearly There Yet’s, The Party, a dance and
circus extravaganza for all the family. Look out for the
thought-provoking Bound from Oxford based company
Justice in Motion, a dance and physical theatre piece to
inspire and challenge in equal measure.
For music lovers, the year gets off to a great start with
Los Pacominos featuring Paul Young whilst, back by
popular demand, are the brilliant Los Endos with their
tribute to Genesis. We haven’t forgotten about comedy
and are thrilled to welcome the brilliant Zoe Lyons to
The Mill for the first time.
As for exciting opportunities to get involved in, we
are delighted to announce that Creation Theatre will
be running A Play in a Week for 8-12 year olds during
February half term. We have a brand new book club
starting in February and Creative Writing is now part
of the programme of classes with Gabrielle Mullarkey
joining our team of professional tutors.
We hope that there is something for
everyone in our mixed bag of events and
would encourage you to try something
new. Make it one of your resolutions!
I look forward
to seeing you at
Zoe Lyons
Little Misfit
Zoe hits the road with a brand
new show for 2016 after a year
that has seen her appear on Live
at the Apollo (BBC2), The John
Bishop Show (BBC1) and win the
Chortle Best Comic award.
Not bad for a girl who has never
really felt part of the gang!
Thankfully Zoe has reached that
point in her life when the thought
of actually fitting in would be
utterly terrifying. She doesn’t
want to be in anybody’s gang, she
is now far happier being a Little
House presents
The Vanishing Man
This is a show about magic. But
it’s not a magic show.
“I’ve been able to work out,
deconstruct and rebuild every
trick I’ve ever seen. Except this
one.”
Hugo Cedar was an Edwardian
magician known as “The
Vanishing Man”; he created
the perfect trick and then
disappeared forever, but his story
lives on…
Directors and performers Simon
Evans (magical consultant to
the NT, Old Vic and Donmar
Warehouse, and two-time
recipient of the Close Up
Magician of the Year award) and
David Aula (‘The Cement Garden’,
‘Personal Enemy’, and ‘MEAT’),
team up to create a time-hopping,
misdirection-abusing, mindbending
examination of what
really happens when a man, in
full sight of his audience, simply
ceases to be.
This is the story of a magic trick:
the greatest one ever performed.
Produced with generous support
from The Unicorn Theatre.
Mitch Benn:
Don’t Fear
the Reaper
It’s been a morbid time
for “the country’s leading
musical satirist” (The
Times). He’s turned 46 -
over the hill by anyone’s
standards - his personal
life is in turmoil, and his
childhood heroes are
dropping like flies. At
times like these, a man
feels the Reaper creeping
up on him… But is death anything to fear? And is
it really the end? Mitch confronts his - and YOUR -
mortality with hilarious (and tuneful) consequences.
Join him. It’s time you’re not getting back!
Jo Caulfield
The Customer is
Always Wrong
Have you ever noticed that even
when you’re right, you’re wrong?
From the potential minefields
of dating, relationships and
divorce, to the simple things like
booking a holiday, or joining a
pub quiz team, nothing is ever as
straightforward as it should be.
Jo Caulfield is determined to get
things back on track.
Award-winning Stand-Up
comedian Jo Caulfield takes a
humorous look at life’s potential
traps, what can go wrong and
how to deal with them. Sharp,
witty and insightful, Jo will make
you think as much as she makes
you laugh.
The Thing That
Came From
Over There!
Directed by Abigail Anderson
The critically acclaimed trio
are back in another rip-roaring
comedy adventure.
Inspired by the horror movies
of the 1950s, ‘The Thing That
Came From Over There’ is a
fast-paced rollicking ride, mixing
paranoia, suspense and hilariously
gruesome deaths.
It’s 1912, and as Scott and
Amundsen begin their race across
Antarctica, the hapless explorer
Captain Reginald Cranston has
accidentally landed on the wrong
side of the continent.
As Cranston and his motley band
set up base camp, a meteor
crashes nearby. Deciding to
investigate, they set out towards
the crash site - unaware of the
danger that awaits not just them,
but the whole of planet Earth.
What ancient evil lurks inside the
crater? What is the dark secret
of the slimy fungus? And what is
the horrifying fate of those who
encounter the parasitic space
worms?
Join three daring actors as they
play over 15 roles in 75 minutes
of shocks, spine-tingling silliness,
and blood-curdling terror.
Lost Property
Tweedy is the comedy and
slapstick legend and star of
Gifford’s Circus, Cirque Berserk
and the Cheltenham Everyman
pantomime!
A comedy about a clown who
gives in to society and gets a
real job. Not knowing who he is
anymore, Tweedy gets a job in
a Lost Property Office to try and
find himself.
Rob Rouse
Are you sitting
comfortably?
He’s married, has two kids, a dog
and an eye-watering mortgage,
(is in debt) in these times of
austerity and uncertainty, but
remains resolute that a career
in the unpredictable world of
comedy was absolutely the right
way to go. (It’s far too late to try
Rob takes this trademark comedic
storytelling to a career high in this
