THE SOUTHEAST JOURNAL February 9, 2017 Pg 10 DC Warriors Win in Vita Dominion City Warriors Senior Hockey Team won the Jarvis Picklyk Memorial Hockey Tournament in Vita. The team was undeafeated in the tournament Twister Report by Don Piett The Twisters broke out of their slump (losses in their last three games) but it wasn’t easy. They faced the Raiders Jr Hockey Club on Saturday in Morris. The Raiders started the show with a goal by Nikolas Lyman. Corey Mazinke replied for the Twisters. Both first period goals were scored on power plays. In the second, the Raiders Carson Rybuck struck first, but Fraser Mirrlees answered for the home team less than a minute later. Thus ended the second period, score tied 2 all. In the third period, it was the Twisters turn to move ahead with a Fraser Mirrlees second for the night. It was answered right away by Devin Manness of the Raiders. Dawson Anderson popped one in at the 11:45 mark and the Raiders moved ahead again. Not to be left behind, the Twisters Brendan Keck tied the game with 3 minutes, twenty seconds left. There the score stayed until the end of regulation time. In overtime, Corey Mazinke scored his second goal of the night, putting the game away for the Twisters. Matt Kohlman in the net for the Twisters had a busy day, facing 56 shots on goal from the Raiders, turning away all but 4. The Twisters had 26 shots on goal against Trent Sargent. The Twisters are in third place in the league with 46 points. First and Second place go to the Stonewall Jets and Charleswood Hawks, both with 51 points. St. James is only 2 points behind the Twisters. Top honours in the scoring race still belong to Riley Beauchemin of the St. Vital Victorias with 33 goals and 36 assists for 69 points. The program helps build community involvement, promotes, civic pride, provides an opportunity to showcase our town & also provides an opportunity to network with other Manitoba communities. Public Notice It encourages all sectors of the community to work together covering the following -Tidiness, Heritage Conservation, Environmental Action, Urban Forestry, Landscape, & Floral.
