34 the advertizer t: 01505 613340 07731 923970 e: info@advertizer.co.uk BOOK people Chivas Brothers in Renfrewshire Like most local people, I was equally shocked and disappointed to learn that Chivas plan to cease operations in Renfrewshire. Chivas has a long and proud history in the area, and have been great for the town but equally Paisley has been great for the company. We have been a fantastic base for Chivas Brothers and have provided them with a loyal and hardworking workforce. I spoke with the CEO of Chivas’ parent company Pernod Ricard last Wednesday and expressed my disappointment and surprise to him about this closure. This sudden announcement took many people by surprise and I was disappointed to learn that the trade unions weren’t involved in the process leading up to this announcement. I have since written to the senior management at Chivas Renfrewshire to find out more about how this process will be managed and what can be done to support the workers. In addition, I have also contacted trade union representatives to fi nd out how I can support them in this difficult time. Despite the assurances of no compulsory redundancies, this will be a difficult time for the workers. We need to fully understand the consequences of this decision and what we can be done to help those affected. He has run the Leading Petcare business since 2007 after being made redundant for the second time in two years. He wrote articles and interview pieces for Artrocker Magazine for a seven year period before deciding to write ‘Damp Dogs & Rabbit Wee’ - more as an exercise than anything else, before embarking upon his current work, a comedy / fantasy with the working title of ‘Soul Survivor,’’ which he aims to publish in the Spring / Summer of 2017. Diaporama This month’s meeting was Hugh and Gerry. Gerry took us to Italy where we visited ‘Venice from the Grand Canal’ with most of the images taken from the water. For ‘Venice Ceilings and Art’ the images were taken in Palazzo Ducale and the Museo Correr - he included some taken by his wife Shona using a mobile phone showing it doesn’t have to always be a camera! His third sequence used the music ‘Love in Portofi no’ sung by Andrea Bocelli who he had seen at the SECC just before they went and this was enhanced by images of the tiny village of Portofi no and its neighbour Santa Margherita. The last sequence ‘Yukon Expedition’ recoded the wanderings of a friend’s son and his family who travelled by canoe from Whitechurch to Dawson City in Canada and into Alaska ending at Tanana on the Arctic circle. With Hugh we went to see the ‘Doors of Madeira’. In 2014 the ‘Art of Open Doors’ project was started and local artists created wonderful works of art on the doors in a narrow street dating from 1430. We also visited ‘York Minster’ with its beautiful interior including the decorative nave, the West Window - it contains a heart shape known as The Heart of Yorkshire and is the largest medieval stained glass in the world and the Rose Window. Hugh also did a short tutorial on Pictures to Exe. This is a programme used to produce sequences. It allows us to add images, change how long they will be on the screen, how we want them to change from one image to the next e.g. slide sideways, turn like a page, go slowly/ quickly etc. It is full of great techniques - all it needs are images, music/ commentary and imagination. It is good to look at these programmes to see if anything is new, to see how others are doing things and talk about different ways of making sequences.
