Bonfi re and Fireworks was a great success after several wet
years. Thanks are due to Lawrie Campbell and his team, the
irreplaceable Sam Johnston, Dougie Lyle of Scart Farm and
the villagers who manned the gate. Andrew Malcolm not only
supplied the wood but his two sons organised the lighting.
This was the 49th since Alex and Helen Calvert started the
event. We intend splashing out next year for the 50th. Again
we are grateful to Lord Mclay and Robert Baxter for the use
of Knapps. The Farmers Dinner at the Golf Club was chaired
by President Angus Black and organised by Andrew Laird of
Cairncurran. The two speakers were excellent.
The works at the Institute have been delayed “the culvert
on Smithy Brae is an issue, with discussions ongoing with
Roads and Scottish Water. Building Standards is awaiting resolution to confi rm
any impact on warrantable works". Watch this space but the development is
taking inordinate time.
I understand that there is a case coming to Greenock Sheriff Court with regard
to the shocking hit and run on the High Road when a horse was killed and the
rider unseated. The rider, from Quarriers was badly shaken and dismayed that
the perpetrator just laughed and drove away. Good work by the Police and the
Fiscal.
I chaired a meeting at Quarriers with representatives of residents in School
House, Scottish Water, Inverclyde Council Roads, the factor for the building and
Quarriers staff. It is hoped that a solution can be found to the fl ooding that has
occurred in this area. Campbell Snowdon House celebrated the opening of their
new conservatory. It is indeed a fi ne addition to the building and I was quite
delighted to be asked to ceremonially cut the ribbon.
Signifi cant increases in Council Tax are being proposed for band E to H houses.
Some 80% of houses in Band H are in my two villages and the increase is
considerable. I will research more info for January.
Please watch the area in the car park behind the two disabled spaces, tickets
unfortunately are being issued .
My surgery is the 10th December 10-11 in the Cargill. I can be contacted on 01475 712727
or 741969 and 07766992294.
Kilmacolm Village Art Class
Friday 2nd December 2016 in Kilmacolm Village
Centre, 11am – 4pm - admission £1 (incl. coffee)
St Fillan’s Church, Moss Road, Kilmacolm
Thursday 22nd December at 7.30pm.
Community Carol Service of Nine Lessons
and Carols followed by Mulled Wine and
Mince Pies – all welcome!
Councillor David Wilson attended the re-opening of both Kilmacolm Primary
School and the new Girdwood Building at St Columba's School.
He told the Advertizer, "Some of us had a tour of the refurbished KPS, led by
the very knowledgeable hands of pupil Ann Wright. I have asked the Head Mrs
McCredie if neighbours can be shown around the fi ne building. "
"The St Columba's Girdwood Building in Gryffe Road was opened by former dux
of the school Eleanor Laing MP, the Deputy Speaker. Her speech in the Church
was inspiring for all the pupils and again the walk to the Church behind the pipe
band really stirring. The pipe band led the Remembrance Day Parade in Port
Glasgow and in Kilmacolm it was good to see some of the band piping the youth
organisations through the village to the service in the Old Kirk."
This group of enthusiastic, local amateur artists who have
The class meets every Thursday in St Fillans Church Hall. There is a morning
