More details will be announced in due course. kilmacolm & quarriers The amount of natural light and spacious surroundings at the newly refurbished Kilmacolm Primary School is all conducive to a good teaching environment. The space also allowed me to move around easier in my new jalopy/powerchair without bumping in to everything! The new outside play areas are very welcome too this being something parents and children had rightly been calling for to replace the former blasé pitch. Well done to Inverclyde Council and the Scottish Government who each provided funding of over £2 million to refurbish KPS. Following reports of several unforced thefts in Kilmacolm I was contacted by a resident who asked if I could request an increased police presence in the village. I was happy to forward this request on and I would like to urge everyone again to please ensure their doors are locked especially in sheds/outhouses and garages. Even more so in the run up to Christmas. If you have house alarms please also make sure they are switched on when going out. I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. This Christmas, 65 million people simply can’t be at home. Forced out by the darkness of violence and fear, they are searching for safety and refuge. The donations which you have made through fundraising in Kilmacolm and Quarriers this year have enabled the committee to send in excess of £7,600 to help Christian Aid’s work our world. Thank you. We had a very successful and enjoyable morning and raised a fantastic sum of £2,765. kilmacolm & quarriers Local Service wins Health Award Councillor Jim McLeod reports that The Muirshiel Elderly Resource Centre in Port Glasgow, which also provides services to older people from Kilmacolm and Quarrier’s, won the Health Award at the recent Inverclyde CVS “Reach for the Stars Awards”. Jim told The Advertizer "The organisation marks their 25th Anniversary and I was very pleased to be invited to their recent Open Day to say a few words and present its Chairperson Pearl Simpson with a bouquet of fl owers. Pearl is a founder member of the organisation and has served on the board for all of its 25 years. On the night, Branchton Community Centre won the overall Voluntary Organisation Award for all the great work they do. There were several other excellent voluntary organisations who after nomination had been short listed for the annual awards. We are so very fortunate to have so many good Third Sector organisations and so many individuals who give up their time for free in Inverclyde."

Details of how you can respond can be found on the Council’s website www.inverclyde.gov.uk/yoursay and in the latest issue of the Council’s InView newspaper. Offi cers have estimated that the savings target over the next 3 years could be of the order of £22.5m, due in large measure to anticipated government funding cuts. The scale of the cuts required should become clearer on 14 December when our local MSP and Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Derek Mackay, announces the Scottish Government’s draft budget to Parliament. The responses from the consultation will inform decisions to be taken by the current Council in February when we set the budget for 2017/18 and the new Council elected in May in future years. The feedback on the £4.3m refurbishment of Kilmacolm Primary School has been overwhelmingly positive. The Council’s Education Director Wilma Bain has described it as the best refurbishment she’s seen to date. A formal event to mark the refurbishment will take place in January. This year’s Christmas lights switch ons in Kilmacolm and Quarrier’s Village will take place on Friday 2nd December. We wish all our constituents a happy and peaceful Christmas when it comes. We will deliver Christmas cards to residential areas of Kilmacolm. To ensure the safety of our young people, we can only deliver to residential areas – so no farms or rural properties! From Monday 5th December until 4pm on Friday 16th December you can post your Christmas cards in the Scout post box in either The Kilmacolm Community Centre or The Cross Café. A minimum 30p donation is kindly requested for each card. The cards will be delivered during the weekend of the 17th and 18th December.
