Sebastian’s
Healing Hugs
We need to raise over $3.5 million
for research and gene theraphy
for Batten Disease CLN8.
“A desperate father’s journey
to save his son’s life...”
#HealingHugs
Our campaign to raise money for Batten CLN8
research and therapy is called Healing Hugs.
ABOUT SEBASTIAN’S HEALING HUGS
Ever since Sebastian was a toddler, he truly
believed he could heal people with his hugs.
If someone bumped their head, scraped their
knee or broke their arm, he would say: “Are you
okay? Can I give you a hug? I can heal you.” For
a long time, we would just smile and laugh and
say how cute and sweet he was, but Sebastian
would get upset if we didn’t believe him. He
insisted that he had healing hug powers.
LEARN MORE ABOUT HEALINGHUGS
Sebastian is now 13 years old, and, to this day,
he whole-heartedly believes he has healing hug
powers. We can’t explain it, but we believe it too.

Fundraising Spotlight
OUR STORY
Sebastian was born on July 18, 2003. He was
just perfect – a beautiful, healthy boy with
good loud lungs.
For the first four years of Sebastian’s life, he
developed as expected. He was very outgoing,
sweet and kind. He loved T-ball, soccer and
swimming.
He was a thriving young child.
In October of 2007, Sebastian collapsed with his
first seizure – a clonic tonic seizure mixed with
partial complex seizure. He was hospitalized
and then told to see his doctor. Ultimately,
Sebastian was diagnosed with epilepsy, and
he was prescribed anti-convulsant medication
to control his seizures. Until doctors found
the right medicine and dosage, Sebastian’s
seizures grew more severe and frequent.
He could not go more than about four days
without a seizure.
Within the next year, we noticed some
behavioral changes in Sebastian, but we
thought it had to do more with the medication
and the hardship of having seizures. He hated
them, and he got hurt sometimes from falling
during a seizure. We made many trips in an
ambulance to the emergency room, where
Sebastian was sewn back together time and
time again. We were very scared and worried
for our son.
At about six years old, we noticed that
Sebastian was having difficulty reading. He was
soon diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa. The
Chief of Ophthalmology at UCLA told us that
Sebastian was losing his vision and eventually
would go blind by the time he was in his teens.
We knew that both diagnoses must somehow
be related due to the fact that we saw other
functions beginning to decline. For example,
Sebastian’s motor skills and cognitive abilities
were also deteriorating. He began slurring his
speech, falling behind in school, stumbling
while walking and needing more and more
help with even the most routine daily activities
like dressing himself.
Ultimately, Sebastian underwent DNA testing
at UCLA. He was diagnosed with Batten CLN8,
a fatal and degenerative neurological disorder.
A geneticist explained that this rare disorder
had no cure and would leave Sebastian blind,
immobile, cognitively impaired and ultimately
dead by his late teens or twenties. We were
absolutely devastated!

Fundraising Spotlight
For several years, we searched the world for
treatments or therapies to stop this disease.
There was nothing. However, in 2016, we met
the Gray family. They have two young daughters
who suffer from Batten Disease CLN6, and they
were instrumental in putting together a genetics
team to develop a gene replacement therapy
for children suffering from Batten CLN6. Their
daughters both received the gene therapy eight
months ago, and they are doing very well.
Because it is relatively new, the treatment
and research are extremely costly, time
consuming and not covered by insurance.
Nevertheless, we are determined to raise the
money necessary to treat Sebastian and other
children diagnosed with Batten CLN8. No one
should have to suffer like this.
Batten Disease
WHAT IS BATTEN DISEASE?
Batten disease is a rare genetically inherited
disorder, which belongs to a group of
progressive degenerative neurometabolic
disorders, known as the neuronal ceroid
lipofuscinoses (NCLs). Neuronal ceroid
lipofuscinoses (NCLs) are characterized
by genetic mutations which disrupt cells’
ability to dispose of wastes, resulting in
the abnormal accumulation of certain
proteins and lipids (fats) within the nerve
cells of the brain and other tissues of the
body, resulting in progressive neurological
impairment including developmental
regression, seizures, blindness, behavior
changes and dementia. There are many
forms of neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses.
Mutations in at least eight different genes
are known to cause Batten disease.

Fundraising Spotlight
SEBASTIAN WAS DIAGNOSED WITH BATTEN DISEASE CLN8
CLN8 typically causes either late infantile neuronal ceroid
lipofuscionsis (NCL) or Northern Epilepsy (NE). Kids with
NCL get really bad seizures, and very early vision loss and
cognitive deterioration (at about age 2-3 years). These
kids have a shorter life expectancy. The kids with NE don’t
usually get any seizures until about 5-10 years, and the
seizures are much more milder. They also tend not to get
significant vision loss and cognitive deterioration is mild
and much more slowly progressive. Sebastian is a blend
of NCL and NE-certainly from the seizure perspective he is
much more NE than NCL—which is good for both seizures
as well as life expectancy/cognition. This particular
variant is extremely rare and the disease course can differ
significantly among cases, making it difficult to predict.
The Hollywood couple who started a foundation to quickly fund
research to find a cure for Batten Disease, which their two daughters
are living with, says they are counting on a miracle now that the girls
have received a breakthrough treatment that could save their lives.
Gordon Gray, the producer behind the movies “Miracle” and
“Secretariat,” and his wife, Kristen, were told by doctors that their
daughters, Charlotte, 5 and Gwenyth, 2, would not reach the age of
12 after both were diagnosed last year with the rare genetic illness
that disrupts brain cells’ normal function, causing blindness, seizures,
dementia and ultimately death.
7 POINTERS FOR TAKING
PROPER CARE
OF YOUR TEETH
by
Margaret Dunham
Follow Us:
In your quest to improve the look and health of your teeth and gums, proper
care is just as important as choosing a dentist. Here’s what you need to know.
Dental care is
important, as
is choosing a
good dentist.
There are many
to choose from and that
can make it an impossible
task. Continue reading to
learn how you can have a
healthy mouth.
1
TALK TO YOUR
SPECIALIST
If you detect any blood
when you brush your
teeth, call your dentist
or a periodontist for an
appointment. Bleeding
gums are a possible
indicator of gum disease,
which can become
seriously problematic if it
goes untreated. Infections,
tooth loss, diabetes
and bone loss are often
caused by gum disease.
Attempt to see your
dentist every 6 months.
Going regularly can help
you prevent most teeth issues. Visiting
frequently is a good way to make sure you
don’t have tooth decay, plaque buildup, or
worse. They might be able to prevent gum
disease, too. Also, if you see your dentist
frequently, you will develop a good working
relationship. This relationship will be
important if you need extensive work done.
Dental cleanings are something that are
important. At the cleanings, the dentist
thoroughly scrubs your teeth, checks for
gingivitis and cavities, as well as any other
issues. If you catch dental problems early
enough, some of them are easy to treat;
neglect usually leads to procedures that
are more invasive.
Not all symptoms of hemorrhoids are obvious. These principles will teach you about prevention, treatment,
and soothing your hemorrhoid symptoms.
INVEST IN QUALITY DENTAL CARE PRODUCTS
There are many great toothpastes out there specially formulated for sensitive teeth.
If you have pain whenever you’re eating cold or hot foods, then you probably have teeth that
are sensitive. Speak with a dentist about this issue to be sure what’s causing it isn’t serious.
Do you replace your toothbrush regularly? It is recommended to replace your toothbrush
every two months. If you don’t do this soon enough, you won’t have a very effective
toothbrush. Compared with the typical restorative dental procedure, even the most
expensive oral care products are relatively affordable.
8 | March 2017

3
BRUSH YOUR TEETH AND FLOSS EVERY DAY
Brush and floss daily, even if you are pressed for time. The time you take
caring for your teeth pays off. This consistent maintenance is the most important
part of caring for your teeth. It’s simple, cheap, and doesn’t take that much time.
For a healthy mouth, brush twice each day instead of one time. It is important
to brush in the morning in order to eliminate accumulated bacteria from
sleeping. It is also essential to brush before bed so that you get as much food
and bacteria out of your mouth before it goes for hours without being cleaned.
Rinse with some apple cider vinegar if you want healthier teeth. Do this before brushing.
Vinegar helps remove stains, kill bacteria from your mouth and whiten your teeth.
4
TAKE PROPER CARE OF
YOUR MOUTH
Smoking is very bad for your
gums and teeth. Even if you don’t
notice it yet, smoking is taking
a toll on your dental hygiene.
You are well advised to stop
smoking as quickly as possible.
If you need help quitting, your
physician or dentist will be
more than happy to advise
you on the best way to do so.
Watch the amount of sugar
you consume to avoid cavities.
The more sugar you ingest,
the greater your chances of
developing cavities. Fruit juice
and soda are extremely high in
sugar and cause a lot of damage
to your teeth; therefore, you
should drink water instead. If
you are serious about keeping
your teeth healthy, avoid foods
with lots of sugar.
5
THE DANGERS OF CERTAIN FOODS
If you are in the middle of a teeth-whitening procedure, you should avoid
any food or drink that can cause your teeth to stain. You don’t want all your efforts
to be in vain because you stick with the same bad habits. Not only will you have
a brighter smile, but you will also be making a positive improvement in your life.
March 2017 |
9

Avoid the acids of fruits juices and citrus fruits since they can harm tooth enamel. Anytime
you consume citrus fruit or fruit juices, make sure you thoroughly brush your teeth
immediately afterwards. Doing this stops carbonic acids from settling into your teeth.
Hard foods like lollipops, ice, popcorn kernels and hard candies can harm your teeth. These
hard foods can also damage other types of dental work including partials, braces and
fillings. Popcorn kernels can also get stuck up in your gums which causes inflammation.
6
THE IMPORTANCE OF
DIET FOR YOUR TEETH
For maximum dental protection,
eat a well rounded diet. Calcium is
good for the strength of your teeth
and bones. Consume dairy products
each day to ensure you get enough.
In addition to calcium, nuts also
provide healthy fats. Stay away
from meats that are high in fat,
and stick to more lean meats and
protein sources such as almonds.
Chewing sugar-free gum is a good
way to keep teeth strong and in
good health. Chewing gum causes
the mouth to produce saliva. This
increase can help prevent plaque
from forming. Sugarless gum can
help to neutralize the acid that may
be in your mouth.
7
STAY AWAY FROM BAKING
SODA AND ASPIRIN
Avoid using the baking soda you keep
in your kitchen when you brush your
teeth. While many people believe it
will keep the teeth nice and white, it
actually helps erode the enamel. You will
increase the likelihood of getting cavities.
If your teeth are painful, don’t put
aspirin next to them. Some think that
the pain will leave if they do this. It can
actually cause the tooth to decay more
quickly because the aspirin could burn it.
Your teeth are important. A good dentist is
still important to make sure your teeth stay
in great condition. Keep this information
and good advice in mind as you are in
search for the perfect family dentist.
8 TIPS FOR
LESSENING
THE EFFECTS
OF
TINNITUS
by
Jim Maranto
Follow Us:
Using these powerful tips can help you get your tinnitus under control and live
a better life.
If you struggle with tinnitus,
this article may be of help to
you. These tips will definitely
help you out and give you the
information you need to deal
with that annoying ringing or buzzing in
your ears.
1
WHITE NOISE
Try using white noise from a fan,
a radio, a television or anything that can
give your mind something other than
the noise in your head to focus on. The
noise helps mask the tinnitus so that
it does not bother you as much. Often,
if you are only hearing the sounds, it
can become easy to get fixated on it.
Take frequent walks. Fresh air can help, and
you can relax by being active. Pay attention
to the way your tinnitus responds to the
ambient sounds and the environment you
encounter on your walk, too. Traffic and
other sounds may be severely influencing
your tinnitus; you’ll figure this out when
you walk. Later, write down the sounds
that aggravate your tinnitus and avoid
those situations in the future.
12 | March 2017

This article will help you restore and maintain your skin. Use as much of this advice as possible to
have healthy skin both now and in the future.

2
SEE THE RIGHT SPECIALIST
If your physician says nothing can
be done about tinnitus, you should go
talk to someone else. Many doctors are
inexperienced in this area, and someone
else such as an ear, nose and throat
specialist may have the answers you need.
If ringing begins to occur in your ears,
do not panic but remain calm. It’s
probably temporary and isn’t anything
serious. If it ceases to be a problem,
you should consider a doctor’s opinion,
but do not have anxiety about it.
See the dentist. You can develop tinnitus
because of a dental or jaw problem. Tinnitus
that does not respond to treatment should
be assessed by a physician. If your condition
is caused by some kind of physical ailment,
consider having these problems fixed.
3
HAVE YOUR EARS CLEANED
If you’re struggling with tinnitus,
you should consider having a medical
professional, preferably a doctor, clean
out your ears. If you have a lot of ear
wax, your tinnitus will worsen, and Q-tips only push the wax up to your eardrum.
Fatigue can be your friend if you have tinnitus. The more tired you are when you are
going to bed, the easier you will go to sleep. Exercise might also help lessen the effects
of tinnitus, so you can live your life more easily.
4
TRY REFLEXOLOGY AND THERAPY
One method that can be very
effective in dealing with tinnitus
is reflexology. Make sure to find a
professional who has some accreditation
and offers you a list of references. Do
research on their experience, and be sure
to choose someone whom you can trust.
Think about getting tinnitus retraining
therapy, or TRT. This therapy is created with
the goal of making tinnitus bearable. The
thinking involves not thinking or dealing
with tinnitus more than other things in your
life, like clothes. Once you truly believe
that tinnitus is no more annoying than a
fly on the wall, you’ll feel much more free.
5
REDUCE YOUR STRESS
Stress has been reported to make
tinnitus worse, so keep your stress level in
check, and live as stress free as possible.
Finding employment that allows you to
work at a personally optimized pace,
and spending all available hours with
those you cherish are both good tactics.
All you can do is get rid of the stress you
have if you are suffering from tinnitus.
Tinnitus can aggravate your daily stress.
14 | March 2017

The higher your level of stress, even minor annoyances and discomforts are amplified.
You’ll be able to work to treat your tinnitus as soon as your stress levels are under control.
Take some time each night before bed to reflect on any problems you may have
encountered that day and think of some ways to resolve them. Worrying about these
negative thoughts will increase your stress and the volume of your tinnitus, leading to
frustration as you try to fall asleep.
6
LOWER THE VOLUME AND
CONSIDER A HEARING AID
Try to not listen to things at a higher
volume. While this might seem fun,
listening to things at high volumes may
cause you to suffer hearing losses, and
may also cause tinnitus to get worse. Be
sure to use earplugs when you know you
will hear loud noises, and see to it that you
are listening to your devices at a good level.
Think about purchasing a hearing aid. If an
ear issue is causing your tinnitus, then a
hearing aid could prove useful in reducing
the stress your ears are undergoing. It
will also enable you to hear beyond the
tinnitus you are experiencing, particularly
if the tinnitus has gotten in the way of your
ability to have a conversation.
7
CHANGE YOUR DIET
AND TRY SUPPLEMENTS
Some evidence has shown that tinnitus is a
condition that is inflammatory. Add in a diet
that is anti-inflammatory in order to reduce
some of your symptoms. So, you want to add
in foods like vegetables and fruits to your
diet, as well as other foods that are antiinflammatory,
like flax seed oil and salmon.
Talk to your doctor before trying
homeopathic treatments for tinnitus. Make
sure your doctor knows what you’re doing
and is willing to monitor your health while
you do it. Supplements should be taken
based only on the advice of a medical
expert and never because a friend, family
member, or other caring yet uninformed
person suggests it.
March 2017 |
8
A NEW HOBBY AND POSITIVE ATTITUDE
Picking up an instrument can actually help you with your tinnitus. Many people
have found that the sounds of an instrument are effective at distracting the player from
that irritating ringing sensation. A good instrument to begin playing is an instrument that
you already enjoy listening to. Some good choices are trumpet, drums or bass guitar.
Wearing ear protection when playing loud instruments is always recommended, too.
Maintaining a positive attitude can assist you in treating your tinnitus. Don’t be like
the author of an article that was read recently. This author had nothing positive to
say about any treatment for tinnitus, yet he couldn’t understand why nothing he tried
helped him. Try many different strategies and give them the time and effort required
to make them work, and if they still don’t work, you know you’ve done all you can.
In conclusion, now you have a better understanding of how to deal with your tinnitus
symptoms. Using the powerful advice in the article above can help you get your tinnitus
under control and live a better life.
Eczema is a condition that wreaks havoc on many lives. This article will show
you how to limit your outbreaks and find relief.
For a long time,
people have
been suffering
with a skin
condition called
eczema, which cause any
number of issues. However,
that condition isn’t anything
people need to accept;
there are a lot of things that
can control eczema. Learn
more by reading on.
1
THINGS TO AVOID IF
YOU HAVE ECZEMA
Avoid hot showers when you
have eczema. You should
take short, warm showers
instead. Use a body wash
instead of soap and avoid
rubbing your skin too hard.
Once you get your skin
clean, pat dry it very gently.
Try not to scratch if you
can. Eczema will get very
uncomfortable. The more
you actually scratch,
however, will cause you to
want to scratch that much more. This can
harm your skin as well as make yourself
more vulnerable to infections. Make sure
you utilize cold compresses and moisturizer
to relieve the symptoms as necessary.
2
PROPER MOISTURIZATION
Make sure that you use creams when
moisturizing your skin. These work better
than lotions. You could even use something
as simple as petroleum jelly to soften the
skin. Whatever you’re going to use, just be
sure you get it alcohol free and fragrance
free. Use a moisturizer twice a day at least.
The best time to moisturize is following
your bath or shower. Moisturizing
products should always be fragrance,
chemical and additive free. These things
can irritate the skin. Creams that are thick
and ointments will be the best for you.
The myth is that moisturizers are believed
to hydrate your skin. In reality, frequent
application of moisturizers allows the skin
to retain its natural moisture and oils. By
doing this, moisturizers prevent the drying
and cracking of skin.
3
THE IMPORTANCE OF APPAREL
Clothing can impact your eczema
a lot. Certain clothes can trigger
eczema. Look to anything cotton or
blended with cotton. Other kinds of
fabrics are known to irritate your skin.
Clothes washing should also be paid
close attention to. Do not use a laundry detergent that is irritating.
Part of dealing with eczema is choosing an appropriate outfit. But this is an important
aspect to consider when it comes to comfort. You should wear loose-fit clothing made
out of fabrics such as cotton. Never wear wool or other coarse fabrics that could irritate
the skin. Make sure all new clothes are washed in a mild detergent and rinsed twice prior
to wearing them for the first time.
4
TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY
Make sure your home is always
at a comfortable temperature. Extreme
temps are irritating and can trigger
outbreaks. Run the air conditioner on
hot days and a humidifier on dry, cold
days. The humidifier will help prevent
your skin from becoming too dry.
Try installing a humidifier inside your home
for treating eczema symptoms. Dry air may
cause dry skin. A humidifier puts moisture
back in the air. Your skin will be less likely
to get too dry and worsen eczema.
5
DISCOVER WHAT TRIGGERS
YOUR ECZEMA
There are often triggers that cause
eczema, and you need to figure out what
they are. It may be some perfume, soap
or detergent that causes a flare-up, or the
touch of a certain fabric may be to blame.
Stress and excessive perspiration can
also be to blame. Once you figure out the
trigger(s), avoid them whenever possible.
Try to reduce the stress in your life. Stress
is known to lead to eczema flare-ups. If
you’re under some stress, try relieving via
exercise, meditation, and other relaxing
activities. You can keep flare-ups to a bare
minimum by keeping stress to a minimum
as well.
You could use modern technology to text
yourself reminders to treat your skin.
Atopic dermatitis is one of the forms of
eczema that millions of people suffer
from. In one study, patients adhered to a
treatment schedule and had fewer flare
ups. Most of these people opted to keep
receiving the text messages.
6
PROTECTING YOUR HANDS
Eczema causes aren’t widely known, and while there isn’t a cure, there are
effective treatments available. Have you heard the term “dishpan hands”? This
is hand eczema which causes the skin on a person’s hand to become dry and
cracked. If this problem has plagued you, make sure to use rubber gloves when
you do dishes. If you find latex too bothersome, wear cotton gloves beneath
them. Be sure to clean your hands after you’re done and moisturize them.
Cotton gloves work well if you are just doing a bit of housework. Leather gloves are
nice for cold weather. Avoid wool and other itchy fabrics. These will irritate your skin.
Always make sure your fingernails are clean and short. Even though you
know you should not scratch your skin, you might do it in your sleep.
This could worsen your rash, and if your nails are long, it could make the
problem even worse. Also make sure your nails are always clean underneath.
In summary, eczema is a condition that wreaks havoc on many lives. This article has
shown how to limit your outbreaks and find relief. Using the information you just read,
you can control your eczema. When you put this information to good use, you can keep
your eczema under control.
7 TIPS ON CHIROPRACTIC CARE
FOR A BEGINNER
by
Margaret Dunham
Follow Us:
Many people rely on quality chiropractor care to maintain their wellness. To
reap the most from it, you need to understand it. Here’s how.
For many people, overall health, pain-free living and wellness can be attributed
to good chiropractic care. While there are enough chiropractors to help
everyone, not enough people actually know what a chiropractor is or that
they could actually help them. Continue reading for more advice on getting
good care.
1
PAY ATTENTION TO
HOW YOU SLEEP
Keep an eye on how you’re sleeping on the
back to keep back pain at bay. Put pillows
beneath your head and shoulders. And then
place something under your knees which will
stabilize your body’s curves. You also want
to sleep on a mattress that is comfortable.
If you have back problems, be sure to sleep
in the proper position. You should sleep
with a cervical pillow beneath your neck.
This will allow your head to relax, while a
traditional pillow forces the head forward.
Sleeping on your stomach can exacerbate
back issues. This pushes your spine out of
its natural position. It is best to lie on your
back with a pillow supporting your knees
while you sleep. You can also roll up a towel
and put it behind your neck for support.
This will protect the curvature of your spine.
WHAT YOU CAN GAIN FROM CHIROPRACTIC CARE
There are many positives that can result from seeing a chiropractor. If you
are suffering from pain in your neck or back on an ongoing basis, you should
consult with a chiropractor right away. Additionally, seeing a chiropractor
regularly can help you prevent problems with misalignment. When your
skeletal structure is properly aligned, your whole body will function better.
Try asking your primary physician for suggestions regarding good chiropractors. Even
if you do not need a doctor’s referral, your doctor may know a specialist that is skillful,
reliable and worth your money.
Many people deal with insomnia, but don’t take the proper steps to lessen their sleeping troubles.
Here’s how to get it done.
3
CHOOSING THE RIGHT
CHIROPRACTOR
If you decide to visit a chiropractor for your
back issues, choose one wisely. Just like in
any profession, there are good and bad
chiropractors. You may have heard a horror
story before. Be sure to research any potential
chiropractor before seeing him or her.
Prior to seeing a chiropractor, do as much
research on them as you can. While lots
of chiropractors are interested in their
patients’ health, some attempt to push
treatments beyond what they need. Always
search online for reviews and references.
4
VISIT A DOCTOR BEFORE
THE SPECIALIST
Do you have high blood pressure? Research
has indicated that manipulating the first
cervical vertebra works just as well to
lower blood pressure as taking two blood
pressure medications simultaneously.
During manipulation, the supply to your
24 | March 2017

heart is freed, which allows it to properly
regulate the blood pressure in your body.
Always see your regular doctor before you
see a chiropractor. It’s important to get a
doctor’s assessment of what the issue is.
This can help the chiropractor determine
what course of action to take. It can also
help you to figure out if a chiropractor is
even needed. The doctor may decide that
an alternative treatment is necessary.
5
CHECK FOR CAUSES OF PAIN
There is more to chiropractic care
than necks and backs. It can actually boost
your body’s immunity. Your nervous system
can be affected by bones in your spinal
column that are misaligned. Since this
affects organs, cells and tissues, this can
mean a dramatic decline in health. Fixing
the problem helps restore the performance
of the immune system back to peak levels.
If you have head or neck pain, consider
seeing a massage therapist or a chiropractor
to help relieve your shoulder, neck and jaw
tension. Tightness in the muscles of these
areas can cause your pain. The jaw’s TMJ
joint can suffer from teeth clenching and
grinding. If this occurs, a night guard is
often effective in alleviating the problem.
6
THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE
STARTING TREATMENT
Avoid having your chiropractor use a neck
snapping treatment. The two arteries in
your neck vertebrae are prone to kinking.
This would normally be okay; however, if
it is stretched and turned suddenly, the
artery linings can be torn. This can cause
a clot to form and end up in a stroke.
When you are seeking a good chiropractor,
schedule a free consultation before you
make an appointment for treatment. A
March 2017 |
25

chiropractor might make a huge difference in your life. However, a bad chiropractor
can make your life miserable. Trust is key, especially in your chiropractor. Always
have a consultation before you actually begin any treatment or manipulations.
You need to get full x-rays before starting any treatment for your spine. By getting a full
examination done, you’ll be sure to get the right kind of care from a chiropractor. If you
see a chiropractor who skips this step, say no to any manipulations. Go find another
chiropractor instead.
7
BENEFITING YOURSELF
BETWEEN VISITS
Before going to a chiropractor, exercise
some. Practicing these types of exercises
can help your muscles stay relaxed and
your spine will be aligned properly.
Inquire with the chiropractor to learn
beneficial exercises to do between
visits. They will probably recommend
gentle stretching, along with walking.
Never bend at your waist to pick
something up. It’s better to use your
knees. Hold the item close to you when
you stand back up. You may also just
bend at both of your knees while having
your feet flat to get the item picked up.
It’s unmistakable that many people rely
on quality chiropractor care to maintain
their wellness. In order to reap the most
from chiropractics, it’s essential that you
understand it. Thankfully, what you read
here has given you a very good start in
teaching you the basics of chiropractic care.
6 WAYS TO GET FIT WITH
AND WITHOUT THE GYM
by
Margaret Dunham
Follow Us:
It’s important to
be physically fit
if you want to
lead a healthy
lifestyle. Every
now and then there can
be a lot of contradicting
messages which make
it difficult to figure out
what to do. Don’t give up,
even if you are tempted.
The information that is
presented to you here will
help you on your way to
a more fit and healthier
lifestyle.
1
Some things are proven to help you become more fit, and there are other
things you should avoid in your daily routine. This advice will guide you.
SET A GOAL AND
KEEP TRACK OF
PROGRESS
Laying out a specific fitness
goal can really jumpstart
your motivation. It
empowers you to emphasize
on conquering road blocks
instead of dwelling on
how hard they are. If you
have goals in mind, you’re
also less likely to quit, as
you’ll want to see through
the things you’ve started.
If you are thinking about undergoing cosmetic surgery, you have a lot of decisions to make. What will happen
next? This article will help you get started.
It’s a great idea to jot down a few notes
about your day’s exercise in a fitness
journal. Be inclusive; you should note
down not just your scheduled workouts
but also any extra opportunities you had
to be physically active. You can tell how
far you have walked in a day if you use
a pedometer through the day. Having
a written record will help you track your
progress as you work towards your goal.
For individuals whose fitness goals include
continuous improvement, a personal
trainer makes an excellent investment.
This will let a personal trainer share
some insight with you and help you stay
motivated with your workout. They aren’t
for everyone, but a trainer can have a great
effect on some people.
2
STRENGTH TRAINING
You can do as much strength
training as needed to meet your goals.
If your target goal is bigger and bulkier,
then you will actually have fewer strength
sessions over time. If you prefer more
leaner muscles, do more strength training.
For a quick way to build up the muscles
in your legs, try wall sits. You will need a
big enough place to do the wall sits. Stand
about eighteen inches from the wall facing
away. Lean back with your knees bent
until the length of your back meets the
wall. After that you want to keep bending
your knees so that your thighs are level to
the floor, ending up so it looks like you’re
sitting. You should keep this position as
long as possible.
3
FITNESS WITHOUT
GOING TO A GYM
To start a fitness routine, take your dog
out for a walk. You dog will absolutely
love the daily walk and will challenge
you with his energy. Start out simple.
Walk around the block you live on and
judge whether or not you’re capable of
anything more when you are back in
front of your house. This camaraderie
is one of the perks of having a dog.
Yard work is another way to get fit without
deliberately exercising. Yard work is great
for exercise, chances are you need to do it
anyhow. It’s a great combination. Getting
yourself outdoors and moving around at
least one day out of the week will allow you
to burn calories while doing something
productive. The time will go by quickly and
both your body and your yard will look great.
Biking is also a great exercise for endurance
and stamina, especially if running isn’t your
strong suit. Riding your bicycle to and from
work whenever possible will save money and
make you a more physically fit individual. If
you are close to your workplace, your halfhour
bicycle commute can burn up calories
both to and from work.
4
AVOID INJURY
A good fitness trick involves putting your tongue firmly to the roof of
the mouth while you do your crunches or sit-ups. By holding your tongue like
this, it engages your neck muscles and keeps them aligned properly. By doing
this, you prevent straining in a harmful manner and other accidental injuries.
In order to reduce the risk of injury you should be careful to use proper form when you
are walking. You need to draw your shoulders back and keep your back straight. Have
your elbows fall at a ninety degree angle. Put your front foot opposite your arms. Let
your feet reach the ground heel first, and then roll your foot downwards from there.
30 | March 2017

5
AVOID OVERWHELMING YOURSELF
Exercise should make you feel energized and enthusiastic, not beaten and
bedraggled. Incorporate some cardio exercises into your routine such as walking
at a quick pace, running and aerobics. If you’d like to build different muscle groups
and you feel like you have the energy, you can add strength training to your routine.
Don’t overwhelm yourself when you start an exercise routine. You can strain muscles and
become extremely sore and tired if you don’t ease into exercise. Your muscles and body
are not used to this exertion, so work your way into it and you will avoid getting hurt.
6
FIND A NEARBY GYM
WITH THE RIGHT WEIGHTS
Look for places near you that let you use
their machines. Some companies will
have a gym room that employees can
have access to. No matter what, try to
figure out where the gym closest to you is
when you’re looking to get fit. The nearer
the gym is to your home, the greater
the likelihood you will pay regular visits.
Organize your exercise sessions in a
defined manner. Begin your workout
with dumbbells, before moving on to
barbells, and leave all machine workouts
for the end. Strength coaches claim that
dumbbells work tiny muscle fibers in
your body, which tire much more easily
than your larger muscle groups that are
worked by machines. When your muscles
grow weary from weight training, move on
to the exercise machines, which are less
stressful on the smaller muscle groups.
When selecting a workout bench, push
down on the padding with your fingers
to check the thickness. If the wood
can be felt under the padding, choose
a machine that has more padding. If
you can feel the support structure you
may sustain bruising or other injury.
Experts have conflicting opinions about
fitness, and it is therefore a messy subject.
There are some concrete things that are
proven to help you become more fit, and
there are things you should avoid in your
daily fitness routine. The advice in this
article will guide you to a healthier, happier,
and fitter lifestyle.
8 MISTAKES TO AVOID IF YOU
SUFFER FROM ASTHMA
by
Margaret Dunham
Follow Us:
Here are a few tips and ideas that can decrease the prevalence of asthma symptoms,
and thus make your life a bit easier if you are affected by the disease.
It can be hard
to live with
asthma. It
makes even
the most
mundane activities
difficult at times. Do not
expect to get rid of this
condition. The best you
can do is keep it under
control. Provided in this
article are a few tips and
ideas that can decrease
the prevalence of
asthma symptoms, and
thus make your life a bit
easier if you are affected
by the disease.
1
EXPOSING YOURSELF TO SMOKE, VAPORS, AND DUST
If you suffer from asthma, avoid smoke, fumes and vapors. This means you
should stay away from all tobacco products and carefully consider the jobs you
apply to, especially in factories, as you may be exposed to harmful smoke or vapors.
If the room you are in appears to be dusty, refrain from turning on any fans. The fan will
circulate the dust along with the air, which can cause it to get into your lungs and make
your asthma worse. Open some windows if you want fresh air.
2
NOT HAVING THE
RIGHT MEDICATION
If you have asthma and find yourself
having frequent attacks caused by
allergies, it may be time to consider a longlasting
medication. An antibody medicine
known as omalizumab is very effective
at countering asthma attacks related
to allergies. Ask your allergist about it.
Asthma usually takes an extended interval
of time to fully develop, and the warning
signs are rarely obvious. There have even
been cases where people die from the first
asthma attack they had, without knowing
they had the condition. That is why it is
important to check regularly with your
doctor and always point out if you are
having any kind of breathing problems
or related symptoms. With the proper
medical attention, you can prevent attacks
and keep asthma under control.
Having a good beauty routine doesn’t have to be an ordeal. After looking at these strategies, you will
agree that they’re worth the time and effort.

NOT USING YOUR INHALER PROPERLY
Be certain to properly use your inhaler. Find a good place and follow all of the
directions that have been provided by the maker of the product. The medicine must go to
your lungs for it to work. Inhale deeply and spray the correct dose into your mouth. Hold
your breath still for ten seconds at least in order to let the mist with medicine fill your lungs.
If you suffer from asthma, it is imperative that you know how to correctly use your
inhaler. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that it’s as easy as pumping lightly into
your mouth. Whenever you spray your inhaler, inhale deeply for multiple seconds.
Without proper breathing techniques with your inhaler, your symptoms will worsen.
You can use the preventative inhaler daily, but know that it can cause mouth infections
near your gums and teeth. You can prevent these side effects with proper tooth brushing
and gargling after you use your inhaler.
34 | March 2017

4
NOT KEEPING YOUR HOME CLEAN
If you have asthma, get a dehumidifier
for your home. If you lessen your humidity in
the house, you will stave off dust mites that
may make your asthma flare. Dehumidifiers
work by taking the humidity out of the air.
Try to keep your home as clean as possible,
especially the bedroom of the asthma
sufferer, to reduce the risk of an asthma
attack. Only permit food in designated
eating areas, such as the kitchen or dining
room, and don’t allow smoking inside
the house at all. Bypass chemicals when
cleaning your home if at all possible,
and be sure to open doors and windows
afterwards.
5
FORGETTING TO GET FLU SHOTS
Make sure that everyone in your
family, including you, gets annual flu shots.
If you suffer from asthma, it is best to avoid
respiratory infections of any type as much as
possible. Precautions include washing your
hands and staying current with vaccinations.
Make sure you get a flu shot each year
if you have asthma or if your child does.
Avoid these infections by making sure you
and your child’s vaccines are up to date.
6
NOT AVOIDING MAIN ASTHMA
TRIGGERS AT HOME
Avoid pillows stuffed with goosedown
or other feathers if you have an asthma
problem. Feathers in a pillow can bring on
the symptoms of asthma and decrease lung
function. Also, make sure your other bedding
is made with hypoallergenic materials.
A lot of the main causes, and triggers,
of asthma may exist right in your home.
Three triggers comprise the asthma
triad of doom: spores, dust and mold. To
reduce asthma attacks and stay healthy,
have an inspector remove any harmful
agents yearly. As an additional measure,
a home that is regularly cleaned will help
keep these irritants from building up.
It is essential that you learn the proper
ways to use all of your asthma medications,
especially those used in rescue situations.
A treatment made up of a daily medication
plus a rescue inhaler can help to keep
asthma under control. Because asthma can
be a lifelong issue, it is vital to take both
regular and rescue medications according
to the instructions.
7
IMPROPER CLEANING
AND EXPOSURE TO PETS
When cleaning your house, clean floors
with a wet mop instead of a broom.
Sweeping stirs up dust and other things
that can trigger your asthma. In the same
vein, choose a damp rag as opposed
to a feather duster when dusting, as
this prevents dust from flying about.
For people with serious asthma, exposure
to household pets should be limited. Even
people that do not have allergies are prone
to suffer an asthma attack from the pollen
and dust on animals.
8
POOR OR LACK OF COMMUNICATION WITH A DOCTOR
You should get a second opinion. Your usual doctor will be able to
help you, but you should also consider seeing a specialist. Nutritionists,
allergists, pulmonologists and asthma centers can all help you, so make
sure that you are using all of the different treatment avenues that you can.
Ensure that you set up regular appointments
with your physician every several months
in order to be updated on your condition.
Your physician must check you out regularly
to see if you need to do anything differently
with your treatment. You need to stay on
top of scheduling doctor visits. Otherwise,
your condition might deteriorate suddenly.
As has already been mentioned, asthma
is a severe medical ailment that should
not be taken lightly. Do everything you
can to keep your asthma symptoms under
control. If you’re having frequent asthma
your asthma, see your doctor as soon as
possible for additional help. Use the advice
you have read from this article to manage
your symptoms of asthma and take back
OVERALL BEAUTY
by
Jim Maranto
Follow Us:
Having a good beauty routine doesn’t have to be an ordeal. After looking at
these strategies, you will agree that they’re worth the time and effort.
Beauty regimes
that work may
seem hard, but
they can be
fulfilling and
fun. If you don’t take the
time to learn about your
beauty choices ahead of
time, you may damage
your skin or hair. No need
to worry, the information
below can help.
1 ARTIFICIAL
TANNING
Before you do a fake tan,
be certain to get rid of
hair that is unwanted at
least a day before tanning.
Whether you decide to wax
or shave you should do it
24 hours prior to tanning
to ensure positive results.
Doing this will ensure that
your fake tan looks the
absolute best that it can.
For a healthy glow without
tanning or self-tanner, use a bit of bronzer
in your favorite moisturizing lotion. This
can be a personal self-tanner that can get
you the custom color you desire. Doing
this can help you pick the color you desire
so that you don’t need to settle for those
already mixed.
2
EYELASHES AND HAIR
Make sure that you are not allergic
to your fake eyelashes. First, use the glue
on another part of your body to test for an
allergic reaction. After applying the glue to
your arm, make sure you keep it covered
to see if you get a true reaction from it.
Use a “hot spray” before you dry your hair.
This can be found in any beauty section of
a generic store like Target or Wal-Mart, and
is very useful for preventing split ends and
helping hair to dry more quickly. It works by
locking in the moisture and smells terrific!
3
IMPROVING HOW YOU
LOOK AND FEEL
We each have our own conception of
beauty. Beauty can be found in many
things. Maybe you see beauty in the trees
along your own street, or in the person
you love most. Keep looking for beauty
everywhere; it can help you be positive, and
positive thinking can increase your success.
It is imperative that you work at having
good posture, clothes, skin and stay fit
when trying to enhance your appearance.
If you work on each area, you will improve
the way you look and feel.
4
DIET AND EXERCISE
Get daily exercise if you would like to
look young and fit. Staying active on a regular
basis will help you look and feel young.
Movement is a requirement in any beauty
plan. You should allow fifteen or twenty
minutes a day for exercise. Stay active in any
way you can, whether you’re just vacuuming
your house or running a couple blocks.
When trying to lose some weight, an
excellent food to add to your diet is a
pineapple. Pineapple contains bromelain,
which is great for digestion. It helps your
digestion of fats, proteins and starches
become more efficient. Thus, pineapples
can help boost your metabolism.
Consuming more fruit juice is good for
keeping your skin beautiful. Eating fruits
and vegetables is highly beneficial to healthy
skin and body. Including the juice of these
foods in your diet is a tasty way to make
sure you’re getting the nutrients you need!
By eliminating your typical sweet drinks and
replacing them with this juice, you’ll notice
glowing skin almost immediately.
5
MAKEUP AND COSMETIC TRICKS
If you’re running low on your favorite nail polish or you just can’t find it in the
stores, add a small amount of polish remover into the bottle. Shake the bottle up and then
proceed to paint your nails. You may find the color to be a little lighter, but still very close.
Layering eyeliner and shadow can be used to make eyes appear larger. In order to
create this layered effect, first you would apply a primer and then brush foundation
or powder over the top of that layer. Then, use the highlighting shadow specifically
on the corners of the inside of your eye. Use an eyeliner pencil for application and
then smudge the line upwards. This will help your eyes look big and beautiful.
Pink will take the attention away from imperfections. Pink makeup will take away from
acne and puffiness of the eyes.
6
TAKE CARE OF YOUR SKIN
Wash makeup off thoroughly
prior to going to bed. Use warm water
and a soft washcloth or a solution for
taking off makeup. After this, wash
the face normally. If you don’t remove
your make-up, it can clog your pores.
Sometimes our beauty is interrupted
by a skin blemish such as a pimple.
An effective home remedy for treating
a pimple is to place a small dab of
toothpaste on it. Don’t use the gel form -
only regular toothpaste will work. Let the
toothpaste dry for about 10 minutes. This
should make the pimple less prominent.
Avocado is great to eat, but did you know
you can use it as a body softener? Get
yourself a ripe avocado that has the skin
and pit taken out. Mash it up in a bowl.
Apply a coating of avocado on your body
for its healing properties and keep it on for
a half hour. Due to the avocado’s natural
moisturizing abilities, you will have smooth
and soft skin.
7
GET A MASSAGE
Massages are great
for your body and can make
you feel good too. Massage
stimulates circulation, lymph
drainage, toning and the
removal of the toxins in your
body. Take advantage of the
health benefits and get a
massage on a regular basis.
If you routinely get bags
underneath your eyes and dark
circles around them, then relief
can be had! Massage the skin
around your eyes with your facial
moisturizer. That will help you
with lymphatic drainage, and
you will look more energized.
8
AVOID FOREIGN SUBSTANCES
Don’t do drugs, smoke or drink too much. Foreign substances can
age the skin and make you look older. Just look at people who use these
substances very frequently. They will help motivate you to not use them. Try
to find other ways you can enjoy yourself. You will look much better if you do.
Having a good beauty routine doesn’t have to be an ordeal. They are involved in terms of
research and practicing techniques, but they are worth it in the end. These tips should
help you be more informed about making beauty decisions.
A 7-PART WALKTHROUGH FOR
INCREASING YOUR MUSCLE MASS
by
Jim Maranto
Follow Us:
There are many ways to get bigger and stronger muscles. This walkthrough has
tips you can apply to your life to achieve the physique you’ve been looking for.
If your focus is on increasing
muscle mass, you should read
the below article for tips on the
areas that you should focus on.
Areas of focus can be changes
in your diet or various workout routines.
Read on to learn some easy hints to help
you work out more efficiently.
1
FOCUS ON YOUR TECHNIQUE
Quite often, people will mistakenly
emphasize their speed instead of technique.
Regardless of the exercise performed,
the repetitions should be slower
while you focus on the technique. You
are sure to get better results using this
approach as opposed to churning out
an equal number of repetitions quickly.
Be patient and make sure that your routines
are executed in the proper way.
You can cheat a tad when lifting. You can
utilize a small bit of body weight if you
need to squeeze out a few extra repetitions
so that your workout is maximized. Don’t
cheat all the time or overdo cheating. Control
how quickly you complete each weight
lifting cycle. Don’t do an unreasonable
number of reps in a short period of time.
Maintain your form throughout as well.
2
MAINTAIN A HIGH INTAKE OF PRO-
TEIN
Keep your protein intake high to increase
muscle mass. Protein is essentially
what constitutes muscles. If you do
not consume enough protein, it will be
extremely difficult to increase your muscle
mass. Try to eat healthy, lean proteins
in two of the three major meals
and one or two of your snacks every day.
Creatine could be helpful. It allows you to
train for longer periods of time at a greater
intensity when combined with high protein
and carbohydrate intake. Discuss taking
creatine with your doctor to see if it is the
right thing to do.
3
FIND A ROUTINE THAT WORKS
Change your routine around. Like
anything else, if your routine becomes
boring, you will be less likely to make
time for it. Make sure to keep your exercise
routine regularly by using different
pieces of equipment at the gym or taking
advantage of different exercise classes.
If you are able to do this successfully,
you will not get as tired of your routines,
March 2017 |
45

and you will want to continue to do them.
You can get stronger with a strict and effective
workout routine that focuses on muscle
building. Over time, you will be able to
take on weights that are heavier. In fact,
if you are just starting out, you should be
capable of lifting about five percent more
every two workout sessions. If this type of
progress is not being achieved, you should
look over the things you are doing wrong.
If you sense you have not gained strength
since your last workout, you may not have
allowed yourself sufficient recovery time.
4
WATER AND CALORIES
You must be hydrated to build muscle
properly. If you’re not drinking enough
water, you could injure your muscles or
yourself. As you can see hydration is important
to your overall well-being as well
as increasing muscle mass. Therefore,
it is important to stay well hydrated.
Remember that you need lots of extra calories
to build muscles. There are a lot of
tools online that can assist you in finding
out how many calories you need to what
you want to gain. Utilize one of them, and
then change your diet around to include
enough protein, carbohydrates, and various
other nutrients that your body needs
to increase muscle mass.
5
HOW YOUR DIET HELPS
YOU TO ADD MUSCLE
Construct your diet based on your training.
You need to increase protein and
carbohydrates while reducing your fat intake.
Muscle building is not a free pass
to eating more; you still need a balanced
diet. Vitamins and protein supplements
may also help you to boost your results.
46 | March 2017

Meet your nutritional needs by consuming protein in even amounts at every meal and
snack that you eat during the day. It’s easier to get the protein you need if you get it over
the course of the day, rather than trying to get it all at once. For instance, if your body
requires 180 protein grams daily, eat six meals a day and have 30 grams at each meal.
6
WHY MUSCLE MASS IS IMPORTANT
You do not need to build yourself up
into a mountain of muscle to realize the
significant benefits of better muscular development.
It can boost your self-esteem,
make you stronger, better your joints,
and improve your lung function when
you do light or medium cardio routines.
Do squats intelligently. Use a point near
the middle of the traps when lowering the
bar. This makes your glutes, hips and hamstrings
work hard, allowing you to squat
more weight than you would have been
able to.
7
STRETCHING AND ISOLATION
Make sure you stretch before every workout. Stretching is essential to warming up
your muscles and preventing injury, and stretching exercises post-workout can help your
muscles relax as they enter the recovery phase. In order to speed up relaxation and shorten
your recovery time, you can also add a schedule of massages to your workout routine.
A good solution for muscles that may limit some of your exercises would be pre-exhaust.
Biceps can tire out before your lats when you’re performing rows, for example.
This can be remedied by doing an isolation exercise, such as pull-downs,
that work your lats without emphasizing your biceps. The result is that your lats
are exhausted ahead of time and then when you row, your bicep won’t limit you.
In conclusion, there are many ways to get bigger and stronger muscles. The article you
just read has a lot of tips you can apply to your life. Feel free to try out the tips that look
most productive to you. Mix it up and test combinations to see how they feel.
7 STEPS FOR REDUCING INSOMNIA AND
GETTING A BETTER NIGHT’S SLEEP
by
Jim Maranto
Follow Us:
Many people deal with insomnia, but don’t take the proper steps to lessen
their sleeping troubles. Here’s how to get it done.
Sleep is a
necessity in life.
The optimal
number of hours
per night hovers
around seven. Any less than
that and your mind and
body are likely to suffer as
a result. This article will give
you some great steps that
will help you gain the good
sleep you need every night.
1
SEE A DOCTOR
Restless leg syndrome,
or RLS, is a condition
where the legs become
uncomfortable, and unable
to relax. They might ache,
twitch or just want to keep
moving. This can actually
help cause insomnia, and
your doctor can provide
the necessary help.
If heartburn is bothering
you at night, speak with
your primary care physician.
You may have a loose
esophageal sphincter which
can allow acid and food to
climb up your throat. If so,
you should see a doctor.
Many people rely on quality chiropractor care to maintain their wellness. To reap the most from it, you need
to understand it. Here’s how.

2
THINK ABOUT SUPPLEMENTS
AND SLEEP AIDS
If you’re taking 5-HTP supplements to
assist you in sleeping, 100mg of them may
be enough for you to get to sleep. This
low dose has been shown to help people
with depression sleep better night after
night. Always speak to your primary care
physician, however, before taking anything.
If you want to take a sleep aid you get at
the store, then you have to speak with a
doctor to see if you’re able to take it safely.
This is surely the case if you plan to use it
on an ongoing basis. It can be safe in small
doses, but dangerous to use over time.
3
LOOK FOR WAYS TO CALM YOUR
MIND AROUND BED TIME
For many folks, the mind races as it tries to
settle down for sleep. Too many thoughts
can make it difficult, or even impossible,
to get a healthy, restful night’s sleep.
For those who find it hard to quiet their
mind on their own, a basic distraction
can be extremely helpful. Playing
ambient noises such as thunderstorms
or other sounds can make your mind get
distracted while being able to get to sleep.
Avoid activities that are too
stimulating before you go to sleep.
Anything like watching television,
March 2017 |
51

arguments, Internet use or video gaming are all bad ideas. It is much harder to
fall asleep when you are stimulated. Swap them out for more relaxing things.
It’s easy to wind up insomniac when your mind is constantly racing with all the thoughts
that go through your mind on a given day. Work on concentrating only on peaceful, serene
thoughts. Let your mind clear to avoid thinking of anything else but calming scenery.
4
WORRYING WHEN IT’S TIME
FOR SLEEP
Avoid worrying when it’s time to
sleep. Set a specific time for worrying,
such as earlier during the day. Many
people thrash about as they recall
their day, making it impossible to fall
asleep. How about spending some
time thinking of those things outside
of bedtime. If you do this, you can
relieve the pressure of trying to solve
them when you need to get to sleep.
Take a minute to write down anything
that you are worried about. Allowing
yourself to fixate on troublesome
thoughts makes it nearly impossible to
achieve peaceful sleep. Try keeping a
journal of your concerns and possible
solutions. This can help you let them
go when it’s time to sleep. If you have
a plan, your stress will lessen, and
you’ll start to sleep more soundly.
Only use your bedroom to sleep
or dress. If you do a lot of other
activities there, your body may begin
to respond to the room with anxiety.
By cutting out everything except
sleep in your bedroom, your brain
will get back on track with letting you
fall asleep more readily there.
5
HAVE A LOOK AT YOUR BED
If you have chronic trouble with insomnia, you need to check out
your bed. It’s almost impossible to enjoy sweet dreams when your bed is
uncomfortable. A bed that is too soft can cause back pain, making it difficult
to fall asleep. A third of your life is spent in that bed, so it needs to be comfy.
If your mattress is not firm, change it. The firm mattress supports your body better and
helps you sleep. You’ll find that you feel more well-rested and re-energized after getting
a good night’s sleep on a proper, firm bed. Mattresses may be costly, but they are worth
the investment.
52 | March 2017

6
START A SCHEDULE AND STICK TO IT
Remember how you slept well as
a child? That was because your parents
forced a regular bedtime routine on you.
Try that now as an adult. Take a bath or
listen to an audiobook to help you relax
every night. Do these things at the same
time each day to promote healthy sleep.
When you are about to hit the sack, set your
alarm clock to the ideal time you would like
to wake up. Don’t sleep too much, since that
can hurt you the next night. Adults don’t
need any more than 8 hours of sleep a night.
Try tinkering with your typical waking
hours if you’re having problems sleeping
at night. Try waking up about 30 minutes
earlier than normal and see if it helps you
fall asleep in the evenings. Once the body
has naturally adjusted, you can change
your wake up time back to the original.
7
BED TIME TRICKS
Try a stomach rub if you have exhausted all other options. This helps to settle
your digestive tract and stomach, and has calming effect on your body. Some people
think this increase in digestive system productivity can help you lose some weight.
You may recall stories of parents warming milk for their children at bedtime.
It is an effective practice. It is also a great way to get your nervous system
relaxed. This leads you into a relaxed state where you can find your sleep.
Keep your room dark. Research indicates that relaxation comes more easily
in a dark room. Don’t let the TV keep running, close curtains and turn off
your nightlight. Even very dim light from streetlights can make sleep difficult.
Any time you are having a problem, researching it and learning how others deal with it
will help. This article should have given you ideas on how to overcome insomnia, but
continue learning other strategies. There is no end to the helpful information you can
find about insomnia.
9 WAYS TO RESTORE AND
MAINTAIN YOUR SKIN
by
Jim Maranto
Follow Us:
This article will help you restore and maintain your skin. Use as much of this
advice as possible to have healthy skin both now and in the future.
Skin care is not
just for your face.
Your entire body
is affected by the
condition of your
skin, so be aware of it. In this
article, we will talk about
whole body skin care.
1
PROTECT YOUR LIPS
When talking about sensitive skin,
your lips are the most sensitive. Make sure
to treat it with lip balms and Chapstick
regularly. The positive effects of lip balm
include protection from sun damage and
chapping and the addition of moisturizer.
Especially in the winter months, the
air will be very dry. If you leave your
lips without moisturizer during the
winter, they could get very dry resulting
in cracks, which are very painful.
For paper cuts and other painful injuries
to your lips, an application of antibiotic
ointment several times daily will soon
resolve the problem. Avoid licking your
lips, as you may have a fungal infection
rather than chapped lips.
56 | March 2017

2
GET SOME SUN
To ensure that you do have good skin, make sure you get enough time
outdoors. Take your dog for a long walk, play basketball or throw a frisbee.
Make outdoor activities a part of your daily routine. When you are outside under
the sun, your body produces vitamin D, an essential ingredient for great skin.
You could get unhealthy skin or even skin cancer by spending too much time in the
sunlight. Cover yourself well when you will be in the sun, and use plenty of sunscreen
with a high SPF rating.
Using these powerful tips can help you get your tinnitus under control and live a better life.

3
REDUCE YOUR STRESS
Finding time to relax and enjoy a hobby can actually be good for
your skin, too. One of the major causes of breakouts is stress. Engaging in
activities that help you reduce stress can also reduce your risk of breakouts.
You need to control your stress levels to maintain healthy skin. Excess stress may cause
skin to become more sensitive. Therefore, you need to take active steps to reduce the
amount of stress in your life.
4
EXFOLIATE YOUR SKIN
Regular exfoliation can help in the
prevention of whitehead and blackheads if
your skin is overly dry or flaky. Exfoliating
expedites the process in which dead
skin cells slough off. This will enable the
hydrated cells to come to the surface
easier and enhance the skin’s appearance
by creating a fresh, glowing complexion.
With sensitive skin, you will want to avoid
use of shower or bath scrubs to exfoliate.
Use an organic cloth to rub your arms, back
and legs after you bathe. This ensures the
removal of the skin’s dead cells without
experiencing irritation from abrasive
scrub particles or harsh chemicals.
Make sure you don’t press too hard when
you’re exfoliating your skin. It can damage
your skin. If extra-deep cleaning is your
goal, simply exfoliate for a longer time
than normal. This ensures deep pore
penetration while avoiding harmful side
effects.
5
ALCOHOL VS. WATER
Alcohol can have a negative impact
on the health of your skin. One drink daily
is fine, but it can enlarge pores and make
skin oilier. This leads to the clogging of your
pores and will result in the skin breaking
out due to the excess amounts of oil.
Drinking adequate water daily is important
to healthy skin. It’s true what they say that
beauty comes from inside. Except in this
sense, it means that if you stay hydrated
your body and skin will look much better
in general. Consuming a minimum of eight
cups of water each day helps you remain
well-hydrated and results in skin that is
soft and supple.
6
USE NATURAL REMEDIES
Jasmine extract is an excellent
way to add moisture to dry skin. Using
jasmine extract will help your skin take
on a lovely glow. It will provide your skin
with antioxidants and makes it smooth
and supple. Be advised though, that
58 | March 2017

it may be more difficult to find this product compared to other regular moisturizers.
Jasmine extract can also be slightly more expensive than normal moisturizing products.
Have psoriasis? Try out plant oils with lots of nutrients in order to treat mild to
moderate cases of it. This option is usually much cheaper than prescriptions.
Argon oil is a very popular oil that comes from a particular tree. This oil
helps prevent the red, scaly patches that you see when you have psoriasis.
People who have very sensitive skin should look for skincare products that are mild and
gentle. Try and use products that don’t contain any chemicals, fragrances or dyes that
could irritate your skin.
7
SHAVING AND FOUNDATION
Be sure to shave with a new, sharp razor if your skin is sensitive. You can cause
irritation to your skin by using an old razor. This can lead to razor burn, chafing,
and painful bumps. It is crucial that the razor is able to smoothly roll over your skin.
If you have oily skin, select a foundation that is oil-free or even a mineral powder. These
types of foundations are designed to soak up the extra oils on your skin, leaving you with
a smooth finish. If your skin tends to be more oily, it is best to avoid liquid foundations,
since they tend to make the skin worse.
March 2017 |
59

8
WASHING YOUR FACE
To prevent irritation to sensitive
skin when cleaning, wash your face
using warm water. Warm water does not
close your pores like cold water does,
so it is better for purifying pores. Hot
water can cause dehydration to your
skin, making it look red and blotchy.
Warm water will allow your pores to
stay open for cleaning without irritating.
If you regularly wear sunglasses or
prescription glasses, clean them once a
week or more. Gunk and dirt can build up
on the nose piece of your glasses. It then
gets transferred to your face. One of the
best ways to clean dirt from your frames is
to use soap and water.
9
MOISTURIZING YOUR FINGERS
Keep your fingers moisturized to prevent hangnail picking. A product that is very rich
in shea butter is perfect for this. Pulling out your hangnails can cause even more damage.
The advice covered in this article will help you restore and maintain your skin. Use as
much of this advice as possible to have healthy skin both now and in the future.
7 PRINCIPLES FOR PREVENTION AND
TREATMENT OF HEMORRHOIDS
by
Jim Maranto
Follow Us:
Not all symptoms of hemorrhoids are obvious. These principles will teach you
about prevention, treatment, and soothing your hemorrhoid symptoms.
The symptoms
of hemorrhoids
largely depend
on whether
they are
internal or external.
Internal hemorrhoids are
tucked inside the anus
and often are not painful,
so bloody stools may be
the only symptom. One
way to tell if you have an
external hemorrhoid is that
you will feel constant pain
and itching. You can learn
more in this article about
hemorrhoids and how to
deal with them.
1 UNDERSTANDING
THE CAUSES OF
HEMORRHOIDS
To ease your concerns
regarding hemorrhoids,
make sure you understand
what they are. Educating
yourself on this potentially
embarrassing topic is
essential if it affects you
or a loved one. Essentially,
it is the swelling, and thus
over-sensitivity, of some
nerve endings that creates
a painful hemorrhoid.
A primary cause of
hemorrhoids is overexerting muscles in
the area of the sphincter. If you suffer
from recurring hemorrhoids, be aware of
how hard you’re exerting those muscles.
2
RELIEVING PAIN AND DISCOMFORT
Keep your hemorrhoids as clean as
possible. Pre-moistened wipes can help
you clean yourself more effectively and
more comfortably than toilet paper. The
swelling and pain caused by hemorrhoids
can be relieved by warm sitz baths. Soak
in the bath for 20 minutes or more.
To relieve the pain and discomfort of
hemorrhoids, try using witch hazel. Witch
hazel relieves pain because it shrinks
hemorrhoid tissue. You can add witch
hazel in a sitz bath. You can also apply it
using a cotton ball, but only leave it on for
about 10 minutes. It may surprise you to
learn that warm water can effectively treat
hemorrhoid pain. Use warm water on your
rectum for around ten minutes per day and
then put a cold towel on the hemorrhoids.
Ingredients for a sitz bath can be purchased
from drugstores and at many grocery stores.
As silly as it may sound, a portable
cushion could be a helpful tool to
overcome hemorrhoid pain. Even if you’re
embarrassed to use the cushion at work,
you can still sit on it at home or in the car
to help relieve hemorrhoid pain.
3
AVOID STRAINING DURING BOWEL
MOVEMENTS
One of the things that cause hemorrhoids
is too much straining during bowel
movements. You can soften your
stool by increasing your water intake
and eating foods that have not been
excessively refined. It can also be helpful
to assume a squatting position when
having a bowel movement, as this helps
avoid straining. When sitting down on
the toilet, use a stool underneath your feet. Hemorrhoids are actually less
common in parts of the world in which people squat to eliminate fecal matter.
If you feel you are having issues with constipation, then before you go to the bathroom,
take a walk. A brisk walk will stimulate the systems of the body to function properly
and help you go more easily. Walking a little before using the bathroom will help to
prevent any undue straining, a major cause of hemorrhoids. Even fifteen minutes of
briskly walking around your neighborhood is enough to help.
4
ICE, CREAMS, AND HOME REMEDIES
Put ice on your hemorrhoids to ease
pain. These sores can be very painful. An
ice pack can reduce both pain and swelling.
For even better results, alternate between
an ice pack and a heat pack. You can also
use this technique while taking a warm
bath. Simply bring an ice pack with you,
and alternate between sitting in the tub
and sitting on the ice pack. This can help to
relieve the discomfort caused by the pain,
swelling and itchiness of hemorrhoids.
You can treat hemorrhoids with topical
creams or home remedies. Have a warm,
15-minute soak in a sitz bath, which is
especially effective after bowel movements.
While hemorrhoids often itch, try not to
scratch them, since this may cause the
problem to worsen. Try using a bit of witch
hazel on a cotton pad to help relieve the
itch. Eating lots of fiber-rich foods, and
drinking plenty of water, are both very
important. This helps to maintain soft,
regular bowel movements.
64 | March 2017

5
WATER CONSUMPTION
Drink plenty of water. If you don’t drink
enough water, your body will begin to take
water from the stool. This can make your
stool hard and difficult to pass. This causes
straining, the chief cause of hemorrhoids.
You can prevent dehydration from occurring
by consuming enough water everyday.
This will, in turn, prevent hemorrhoids.
If you have hemorrhoids, use lemon in your
water. Lemon juice contains nutrients that
will relieve hemorrhoids by strengthening
your capillaries and blood vessel walls.
Make your discomfort a little more bearable
by drinking a little lemon water each day.
6
RESIST THE URGE
TO USE LAXATIVES
If hemorrhoids are causing you great
distress, it is important not to rely on
laxative drugs to solve constipation.
Laxatives are designed to assist with only
one bowel movement. If you experience
issues regularly, it’s best to make changes
to your diet instead. Overusing laxatives
can actually make your stool harder.
You can reduce hemorrhoids and its side
effects by losing weight. If you’re overweight,
you can have more hemorrhoid issues.
Excess weight can put extra pressure on
your stomach; in addition, if you overeat,
excess waste products increase pressure
in the veins in your anus—the place where
hemorrhoids develop. Make sure your diet
plan includes a lot of fiber so that you can
relieve some of this pressure. Though it
may seem like an easy approach to weight
loss or hemorrhoid treatment, resist the
urge to excessively use laxatives.
7
AVOID SCRATCHING, SPICY
FOOD, AND CAFFEINE
Even if your hemorrhoids are unbearably
itchy, do not scratch them. It is important
not to scratch them, however, in order
to prevent them from tearing. This will
make your condition even more painful,
and an infection could quickly follow.
Steer clear of spicy food and caffeine.
These foods have an irritating affect on
your intestines which can ultimately cause
problems with hemorrhoids. Spicy food in
particular can exacerbate your hemorrhoids
to levels of burning sensations that you
can feel even outside the restroom.
The symptoms of hemorrhoids were
covered at the beginning of this article.
External and internal hemorrhoids can
produce different symptoms and levels of
pain and can be easy to tell apart because of
this. By following the advice of this article,
you can learn more about prevention and
treatment of hemorrhoids.
AN 8-PART GUIDE TO GETTING
COSMETIC SURGERY
by
Margaret Dunham
Follow Us:
If you are thinking about undergoing cosmetic surgery, you have a lot of decisions
to make. What will happen next? This article will help you get started.
Modifying your appearance is not something you should take lightly. It is crucial
that you make intelligent decisions regarding your own personal cosmetic
surgery procedure. You can use the information and strategies from this
article to help you reach your goal.
1
THE SURGEON’S
CREDENTIALS
When you are asking
your surgeon about the
procedure you are having
done, you should not
fail to ask for specific
credentials. Find out which
university he attended,
what year he finished, and
how many surgeries he has
performed. In addition,
you should request to see
photos of past patients on
whom he has performed
similar procedures.
Fully investigate a
cosmetic surgeon’s
credentials. Though many
surgeons are qualified,
if you pick the one bad
apple, the consequences
could be disastrous.
Speak with family and
friends to see if they have
a plastic surgeon they can
recommend to you.
2
RISKS INVOLVED WITH PLASTIC
SURGERY
Before considering plastic surgery, try
to fix what you’re not happy with. Most
procedures are successful, but there are
risks involved. Many body issues can be
remedied with less drastic measures.
Ask about any risks involved with the
procedure and how you can reduce them.
Research this information, too, to make
sure the surgeon has been honest.
Some things are proven to help you become more fit, and there are other things you should avoid in
your daily routine. This advice will guide you.

DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH
Not only should you research your specific surgeon, but you should also
research the hospital or clinic at which you’ll have your procedure. Your surgery
center should be currently licensed and accredited, and inspections should be up
to date. Even small things such as the offices of the physician must be inspected
and registered. Find out whether the facilities for your procedure meet all the state
requirements for safety and sanitation. You need to know their history as well.
68 | March 2017

You need to ask your prospective surgeon
how many times he has performed this
procedure. A surgeon will be more skillful
the more procedures he performs. Also,
the more procedures performed, the
more patients he has seen. If there are
repeatedly poor results, it is more likely
there will be some malpractice suits.
Be sure your plastic surgeon is well qualified
for the procedure you will be having done.
You don’t want to use a surgeon with an
expired license, so make sure it is current.
You can call the licensing bureau in your
state to find out. This is completely free for
you to do, and it can help you feel more
confident about a doctor you have chosen.
4
COSMETIC SURGERY EXPECTATIONS
Cosmetic surgery offers many benefits, including increased self-esteem.
If you’ve had major physical injuries, cosmetic surgery can sometimes help.
For example, burned skin can be repaired. Sometimes people are involved in
accidents that require extensive plastic surgery to repair burned tissue. This plastic
surgery is necessary so the person can feel whole and improve their self-esteem.
Keep your cosmetic surgery expectations realistic. Cosmetic surgery is not as miraculous
as it seems and there are distinct limitation to what can be achieved through the
procedures. People with body perception issues are not going to achieve the results
that their psychological issues demand. Changing your physical appearance will not help
erase body perception issues. It is imperative to get professional help for the procedure
you require.
5
RECOVERY TIME AND CARE
When it comes to cosmetic surgery,
be sure that you find out ahead of
time what sort of aftercare might be
required. You should know whether or
not you will need to arrange for outside
assistance during your recovery time.
For smokers, quitting a month before
having a procedure done is the wisest
move. Some surgeons refuse to work on
anyone who does smoke. Smoking can
cause reduced blood flow, making recovery
time much more difficult.
6
THE SURGERY DECISION MAKING PROCESS
Never be talked into something you do not truly want. Many types of cosmetic surgery
are simple and can be performed quickly. Sadly, this may lead to some doctors pressing you
to stop thinking about it and to just go for it. Retain full control over the decision making
process. If you feel rushed, tell your doctor you need more time to make your decision.
That being said, it is vital that you don’t walk into your surgeon’s office with a single
procedure in mind. An excellent surgeon with a lot of experience should be able to give
you options that will fit your needs. Your doctor has much more experience than you and
can offer you many suggestions for getting the outcome you desire.
70 | March 2017

7
ANESTHESIA AND LASERS
Familiarize yourself with the
anesthesia that will be used during your
procedure. This question can escape
your mind easily, though it is important
information to have. The level of
anesthesia used will greatly affect how
much pain you feel. If a lot of anesthesia
was used, you may find it harder to initially
recover. Finally, there are many costs
involved with this procedure. You should
always learn all that you can about it.
If your procedure involves lasers, you need
to find out how experienced your surgeon
is. Also, don’t have the procedure done
by someone who isn’t a physician. You
should make sure of the certifications of
the persons performing your laser surgery.
8
COSTS OF PLASTIC SURGERY
If you are considering cosmetic surgery, you should think about planning early by setting
money aside for the procedure. It is not always understood that if complications arise, recovery
may be costlier than expected. It may seem unfair, but you are responsible for these fees.
The quality of work you receive does not depend on the highest price. Price should
not be your deciding factor as you are looking for a surgeon. A cosmetic surgeon who
doesn’t charge a lot may offer great value, or he might cut corners. You may also
find that the highest price may be using expensive equipment that is not necessary
for your procedure. There is no way to know for sure until you check them out first.
Modifying your appearance is not something you should take lightly. It is crucial that you
make intelligent decisions regarding your own personal cosmetic surgery procedure.
You can use the information and strategies from this article to help you reach your goal.
After some careful consideration, you should now be aware of the right decision to
make in regards to undergoing cosmetic surgery. What will occur next? You have many
decisions ahead. There are many things you need to do. Fortunately, this article can help
point you in the right direction.
