HOUSTON WING - COMMEMORATIVE AIR FORCE<br />
<strong>2017</strong> OPEN HOUSE & VINTAGE AIRCRAFT FLY-IN<br />
April 22-23, <strong>2017</strong> will be a weekend dedicated in recognition of the<br />
70 th anniversary the formation of the United States Air Force, as the<br />
Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Houston Wing presents its annual Open<br />
House at the West Houston Airport.<br />
This event provides a rare opportunity for the public of all ages to immerse<br />
themselves in the sights and sounds of WWII and other authentic vintage<br />
military aircraft, which played a huge role in our American history.<br />
In addition to aircraft, several historic military vehicles will be on display<br />
as well as a very unique anti-aircraft gun trailer exhibit from the Battleship<br />
Texas. Our hangar’s WWII museum will also be open and docents will be<br />
available to help all ages enjoy the museum’s displays.<br />
West Houston Airport is located at 18000 Groschke Rd., 2 miles north of<br />
I-10 and between Hwy. 6 and Barker Cypress, will be the place to visit<br />
on Saturday and Sunday, April 22 nd and 23 rd from 10 AM to 5 PM. The<br />
admission fee is $10 per car, which goes to supporting the organizations<br />
efforts to keep these aircraft flying. Food, drinks and souvenirs and<br />
vintage aircraft rides will be available for purchase. For additional<br />

KATY VOCAL EXPRESS<br />
Katy Vocal Express, the newest prospective Sweet Adelines Chorus<br />
has arrived in the Katy area. The name honors the history of the Katy<br />
railroad while looking forward to the barbershop harmony that is now<br />
being made in Katy. Ladies from the Katy/West Houston area are invited<br />
to attend chorus rehearsal any Thursday evening, 7-9PM at Holy<br />
Covenant United Methodist Church, 22111 Morton Ranch Road, Katy<br />
77493. There are signs guiding you to the correct place on the east side<br />
of the property.<br />
Singers of all ranges of experience make up KVE. Some have years of<br />
chorus singing while others have very little singing experience but the<br />
desire to create beautiful harmony. The ability to read music is helpful but<br />
not required; you just need the desire to sing and the ability to carry a tune.<br />
NATURE PROGRAMS FOR PRESCHOOL-AGED CHILDREN<br />
SATURDAYS IN NATURE<br />
This program is held on the second Saturday of each month at the Edith L.<br />
Moore Nature Sanctuary. Arrive anytime between 9 and 11:30 AM. The program<br />
ends at 12 noon. A guided nature walk will begin at 10 AM. No reservations<br />
required. Donations are encouraged. This is a “whole family” program; parents<br />
or other adult guardians should participate with their children. Upcoming<br />
programs include <strong>March</strong> program on Wildflower Walk(Cone Seed Starter).<br />
THE TITMOUSE CLUB<br />
The Titmouse Club is a nature program for children ages 2 ½ to 5<br />
sponsored by the Houston Audubon Docent Guild. The program is<br />
offered every Tuesday and Wednesday morning, 10 to 11 AM, from<br />
mid-September until mid-May at the Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary,<br />
440 Wilchester Boulevard. Each week features a different nature theme<br />
and may include nature talks, stories, hands-on activities and walks in<br />

look under Audubon Docents. The cost is $5 per child per session or a<br />
5-session card can be purchased for $20. The child must be accompanied<br />

AFTER SCHOOL NATURE EXPLORERS CLUB<br />
Nature Explorers Club is designed for school-age children (ages 6-10,<br />
K-5 th ) who are interested in investigating the natural world. Each month<br />
we will explore a different ecology topic, focusing on our own native<br />
plants and animals. We will make a craft to take home, go on a nature<br />
hike, dip-net for fish and tadpoles in the ponds and get to know the plants<br />
and animals of the Bayou City! Fee/reservations are required. Reserve<br />
