Works are progressing well on the Quinns Mindarie Community Centre

Community Centre
The Quinns Mindarie Community
Centre is on track to be completed
by July 2017 to deliver muchneeded
services, programs and
activities for Quinns Mindarie locals.
The $4.2 million facility is being
built as an extension to the existing
Quinns Mindarie Surf Life Saving
Club (QMSLSC).
The ground floor additions include
playground amenities with indoor
and outdoor play areas and a foyer
entrance. The second story addition
will provide community function
spaces, kitchen and meeting rooms.
Residents, community groups and
not-for-profit organisations are set
to benefit from the new space along
with the surf club, fishing club and
local playgroups.
The existing upper and lower car
parks adjacent to QMSLSC and
Portofino’s will also be extended to
increase the number of car parking
and motorcycle bays.
Builder named for
Yanchep Pavilion
The City has awarded a contract
for construction of a sports pavilion
as part of the $7 million Yanchep
Active Open Space project. Bistel
Construction was chosen through a
competitive tendering process that
attracted nine bids for evaluation.
The company will take site
possession at the beginning of
March and practical completion is
expected by November.
The sports pavilion includes
change rooms, toilets, two adjoining
multi-purpose rooms, umpire
facilities and storage areas.
Meanwhile construction of the two
sporting ovals to cater for AFL,
soccer, cricket, athletics and rugby
is progressing well. Hardcourts for
basketball and netball are included
in the works.
Landscaping of the ovals will be
finalised during the winter months.
Yanchep Lagoon Café abuzz
The new operator of the Yanchep
Beach Café has drawn positive
food reviews since re-opening the
business in December.
A makeover of the premises
features refreshed décor, expanded
arts and craft displays, an enlarged
outdoor eating area and live music.
Marmion Avenue widening
to Merriwa
The $2.2m widening of Marmion
Avenue to dual carriageway, from
Lukin Drive to Butler Boulevard,
Merriwa, is ready to begin.
The City awarded the
construction contract to
RJ Vincent and Co in February
with practical completion

expected within six months.
The City undertook a public
display information campaign
to notify the community of the
proposed works.
Neerabup Road to join
Wanneroo Road
Neerabup Road will be extended
eastwards to Wanneroo Road
in the next six months following
completion of dual carriageway
works on Connolly Drive.
Assets Director Harminder Singh
and Mayor Tracey Roberts were
n hand to witness completion
of the Connolly Drive ‘dualling’
works in the week before
Christmas.
The $8 million upgrade of Connolly
Drive north to Butler was completed
on time and on budget.
Selective native vegetation and trees
will be reinstated into the currently
mulched median strips once the
weather cools from March onwards.
Meanwhile, Main Roads WA will
continue construction of Neerabup
Road through to Wanneroo Road
and the realignment and widening
of Hester Avenue, east of
Connolly Drive.
