Lion guards new plant
in Suzhou
Nothing can escape his watchful gaze. In
the Chinese tradition of ‘eye-dotting’, it
is the last strokes of the brush on the
mask that symbolically give light to the eyes, so
that the lion can provide protection. The tradi-
tional ceremony is supposed to bring good fortune
and offer protection; it plays an essential role in
every festival. At our Suzhou site near Shanghai, it
was part of the atmospheric opening ceremony
to inaugurate the new ElringKlinger factory on
2 November 2010.
In his speech to mark the occasion, our CEO
Dr. Stefan Wolf was enthusiastic about the potential
of the Chinese market: “This investment is a
response to growing demand for our products
from international, but also, increasingly, from
Chinese customers. With its cutting-edge technology,
the new plant will help us enormously to
maintain the Group’s strong record of growth in
the world’s biggest automobile market.”
It was not until the ribbon was cut by Dr. Wolf,
Karl Schmauder of the Management Board and
Humphrey Chen, General Manager of ElringKlinger
China Ltd., that the two hundred or so guests from
the world of politics and business were able to see
the factory for themselves. All were suitably impressed
by the high technical standard. The new
facility has almost doubled the available production
area in Suzhou. The company now has 100
employees making thermal and acoustic shielding
components and plastic housing modules over an
area of 5,000 square metres. Production of PTFE
components for the Engineered Plastics segment
will commence in spring 2011.
Plans for further growth
Formed in 2006 as a SEVEX Group company,
the site was integrated into the ElringKlinger Group
after the takeover of the Swiss mother company.
