Laura is such a warm and loving person.” A celebration of Collyer’s life was held on Feb. 16 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wilmette. Several people that called The Lantern to talk about the service described it as one of the largest gatherings they had ever seen. Pallbearers were Crowley, Fox, Bill Hielscher, Dan McNulty, Tim O’Gara and Michael Reagan. Both Crowley and Fox gave remembrances during the service. Fittingly, the ceremony ended with a postlude song of “Danny Boy” played on bagpipes. “Everybody there was a friend. Dan was just somebody who was really outgoing and fun,” Fox said. “He made friends quickly and often. He was a real friend.” Collyer was also the caring son-inlaw of George (Susan) Cross and the late Wendy Cross; fond brother-in-law of Marcie (Marc) Sandalow, Andrew Cross, and Sarah (Bill) Shideler; and the cherished uncle, cousin and friend to many. According to Fox, the reason for donations going to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is that Collyer has a niece and nephew with the disease and he had been a longtime fundraiser for the Chicago chapter. Collyer was also a fundraiser for other area organizations. John Bojan John R. Bojan, of Glenview, passed away on March 3. He was born on Sept. 17, 1930. Violet Grosch Violet Grosch, of Glenview, passed away on March 3. She was born on Feb. 23, 1923. Chester Lata Chester Lata, 89, formerly of Glenview, passed away on Feb. 24 in Libertyville. He was born July 20, 1927, in Chicago. He was a former resident of Huntley and Northbrook. Lata lived in Libertyville for the past two years. He was employed by BonTon Poultry for more than 40 years. Lata was an avid golfer and loved to travel, especially to Europe and the Far East. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ellen; loving daughter, Cynthia (Randall) Wunder; cherished grandchildren, Christiane (Jed) Engel and Adam Wunder; and great-grandchildren Austin and Wyatt. Micheal Progar Michael J. Progar, 59, of Glenview, passed away unexpectedly on March 2 at his home. He was born Oct. 31, 1957, in Evanston and was raised in Glenview. He was a 1975 graduate of Glenbrook South and was a technician for the AT&T Cable Company. Mike enjoyed riding motorcycles, Formula1 racing and assembling model airplanes. He is survived by children Max and Michelle Progar, sisters Barbara (Merl) Carberry and Janet Progar, and brothers Stephen (Pamela) Progar, Bill (Michelle) Progar and Mark (Donna) Progar.
