NNEKWA TSAJWA It is not how you start but how you finish that matters…
FROM KIDS’ SHOWS TO SEASONED ACTOR By UNRECO staff With a dream to see himself behind the camera as an actor to landing gigs as a child presenter, the now all grown up Nnekwa Tsajwa (31) has finally made it into acting. When growing up many children got to see Nnekwa on The Molo show, X–Attitude and Big time before moving onto Jam Alley. “The transition from the kid’s TV to a youth entertainment platform was appreciated greatly. I had been looking to enter that realm for a while at that point, partly because of any young person’s eagerness to grow up and be perceived as an adult.” The youngest of seven children not only tapped into presenting and acting but was part of a music group called Black Gold that has a hit song ‘come on come on’. “In 1999 I wrote my first rhyme. I have been experimenting with music since I was young. Before Hip hop I used to regard myself as an R&B singer. I am a huge Michael Jackson fan,” says Nnekwa. The Ga Rankuwa star recently joined the cast of Etv’s Gold Diggers as Clement. He says that they are total opposites; “Clement is despicable! It was uncomfortable at times to play Clement, especially when he was being particularly immoral. At first I would cringe when reading the script, but hopefully I did the character justice.” Amongst other things that Nnekwa appreciates about his job is being around legendary actors and the talent that puts the entire production team together. The opportunity of playing different characters and telling stories is what puts a smile on the young actor.
