Eighty-six people gave their consent to participate<br />
in the survey. Patients’ median age was 80 years.<br />
Fifty-five percent of the sample were female, and<br />
45% male. The majority of patients reported their<br />
ethnicity as white British (92%).<br />
5.1 Length of stay and type of admission<br />
The majority of patients (64%) who had been<br />
discharged and were waiting in the lounge, had a<br />
relatively short hospital stay of 1 – 3 days. 21% had a<br />
slightly longer stay, and 15% stayed for 1 – 4 weeks.<br />
