SPECIAL EVENTS<br />

• INCOME-TAX-PREPARATION ASSISTANCE – Mondays thru <strong>April</strong> 17 th ,<br />

1-5 PM, Meeting Room. Representatives from the AARP will provide free<br />

income-tax-preparation assistance for low-income taxpayers. Patrons<br />

should bring the following information to the session if possible: photo<br />

ID, Social Security card(s) for self, spouse and all dependents, last year’s<br />

tax return, W-2, 1099s and any other compensation received in 2016,<br />

unemployment compensation statements and any other documents that<br />

are necessary to complete your return. This service is free and open to the<br />

public on a first-come, first-served basis. Income-tax forms will no longer<br />

be available at the libraries, but patrons may use the libraries’ computers<br />

and printers to download and print out the forms from the IRS website,<br />

www.irs.gov, during regular library hours. A library card is needed to use<br />

the printers and the cost to print is 10¢ per black-and-white page.<br />

• LEISURE TIME PROGRAM - Thursday, <strong>April</strong> 6 th , 6-8:30 PM, Meeting Room.<br />

Take a little time out of your day to relax and recharge. Try your hand at<br />

one of the board games, bring a favorite hobby to enjoy or discover a new<br />

recreational pastime at this come-and-go activity period.<br />

• EARTH-KIND® LANDSCAPING - Saturday, <strong>April</strong> 8 th , 2-3:30 PM, Meeting<br />

Room. Fort Bend County Master Gardener and Earth-Kind® Specialist<br />

Peggy d’Hemecourt will provide an overview of Earth-Kind® gardening<br />

practices. She will introduce the seven Earth-Kind® landscaping principles:<br />

planning and design, practical turf areas, appropriate plant selection, soil<br />

improvement, efficient irrigation and rainwater catchment, effective use<br />

of mulches and appropriate maintenance. Gardeners and landscapers will<br />

learn more about conserving resources and protecting the environment<br />

while still maintaining beautiful lawns and gardens organically.<br />

• FREE ACT PRACTICE-TEST SESSION - Saturday, <strong>April</strong> 22 nd , 10 AM-2 PM,<br />

Meeting Room. A representative from Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions<br />

will administer the practice test. Students will take a full-length practice<br />

ACT test to gain experience and become better prepared for the actual test.<br />

Bring two #2 pencils and a non-graphing calculator if available. Students<br />

may also bring a mobile device to generate instant test results, which will<br />

be available online for 90 days. Registration required.<br />

• FBC PRECINCT 3 LITERARY & FINE ARTS FESTIVAL & PARADE - Saturday,<br />

<strong>April</strong> 29 th , 10 AM -2 PM. The Literary & Fine Arts Show & Parade will celebrate<br />

the talent of young artists, performers and writers from public schools<br />

in <strong>Katy</strong> ISD and Lamar Consolidated ISD that are located within Precinct<br />

3. The event features a juried art exhibition, musical performances and a<br />

literary-composition contest. Children in pre-K through 3 rd grade may dress<br />

up as their favorite storybook character and participate in a Character<br />

Parade through LaCenterra. Prizes will be awarded.<br />
