THAILAND POST TO TRANSFORM 

FOR THE DIGITAL ERA 

Thailand post will transform itself 

over the next two years so as to 

become more competitive in the 

digital era. 

Whilst the digital era has brought 

increased e-commerce, which 

in turn has a good potential to 

increase business for the state 

enterprise, it has also brought in 

increased competition from private 

couriers along with new smartphone 

apps. 

Thailand Post’s President, 

Samorn Terdthampiboon was 

quoted as saying “A transformation 

is needed in order to fight 

back against the influx of no frills 

messenger service apps and international 

courier and parcel 

delivery service providers as well 

as to create sustainable revenue 

growth. We must move towards 

digital in a bid to enhance our 

services and maintain our leadership 

in a market that is facing 

fierce competition from new foreign 

players.” 

As part of the transformation, 

Thailand Post is expected to 

spend over 3 billion baht between 

now and the end of 2018 to upgrade 

its automated sorting and 

distribution centres as well as 

to upgrade its vehicle fleets. An 

expansion of its Prompt Post service 

(a mobile app that provides 

easy pre-registration), as well its 

postal ID service, a method to facilitate 

sorting in a quicker time, 

are among the objectives of the 

transformation. 

With postal ID services in mind, 

there was already success in obtaining 

more than 7 million household 

registrations in November 

last year when postcards featuring 

portraits of the late King were 

made available on the website. 

The Postal ID system is to be 

expanded countrywide over the 

next five years. Postal ID services 

are already in operation in Chonburi, 

Bangkok and Nakhon Ratchasima 

on a trial basis. 

Prompt Post allows users to pre 

register and then use semi automatic 

parcel processing counters 

to save time when despatching a 

package. It is already in service in 

Bangkok and some neighbouring 

provinces, but will be expanded 

countrywide this year. 

The digital transformation program 

will cover five key aspects 

including products and services, 

communications, infrastructure, 

operations and training staff to 

ensure that there is a digital era 

mind set in place. 

Thailand post has 24,000 employees 

and no plans to increase 

this number. The enterprise reported 

a net profit of 3.5 billion 

baht last year on revenue of 25 

billion baht. Revenue was up 

twelve per cent over that in 2015 

when revenues stood at 22 billion 

baht. Expectations are for revenues 

to increase again in 2017 

to 26.9 billion baht with profit 

expected to come in at 3.3 billion

accounted for nearly half of all revenue 

in 2016, (48 per cent) with 

a further 45 per cent accounting 

for postcards and communication 

services. The remaining revenue 

came from over the counter payments 

and retail business.

AN INTRODUCTION TO RAM – WHAT 

IS IT AND HOW MUCH DO I NEED? 

Random Access Memory, usually shortened 

to “RAM” or simply “memory,” is 

one of the most important parts of any 

computer. But how much do you need? 

Current new PCs and similar devices 

range from around the 2GB mark, to 

16GB or more. 

How much memory you require will depend 

on two factors, including what you 

want to do, and how much you’re willing 

to spend. This article will focus on 

computers running a desktop operating 

system, such as Windows, MacOS, and 

Chrome OS. 

Memory capacity is often confused with 

the long-term storage offered by a solid 

state or a conventional hard drive. 

Sometimes even manufacturers or retailers 

will mix up these terms. 

A desk is a useful analogy to consider 

the difference between memory and 

storage. Think of RAM as the top of the 

desk. The bigger it is, the more papers 

you can spread out and read at once. 

Hard drives are more like the drawers 

underneath the desk, capable of storing 

papers you’re not using. 

The more RAM your system has, the 

more programs it can handle simultaneously. 

RAM isn’t the only determining 

factor, and you can technically open 

dozens of programs at once even with 

a very small amount of RAM, but doing 

so will slow your system down. Think of 

the desk again. If your desk is too small, 

it becomes cluttered, and your work will 

slow as you try to find whatever paper 

you need at any particular moment. 

You’ll be forced to frequently dig into the 

drawers to store what won’t fit on top of 

the desk and retrieve papers you need. 

A computer with more RAM feels noticeably 

faster, but only up to a point. 

Having a big desk doesn’t help you if 

you’ve only a few papers to read. 

The goal is to have enough RAM — or 

desk space — for all the applications 

you use in your life, on that particular 

device. Too little RAM, and things get 

clogged up. Too much RAM, and you 

just paid for memory you may never use. 

Standard RAM shouldn’t be confused 

with video memory, however, a statistic 

associated with computer graphic cards. 

High-end 3D games rely on video RAM 

(VRAM), often expressed as “GDDR5” 

or something similar, whereas standard 

memory will simply be referred to 

as memory, RAM, or DDR3. This may 

sound confusing, but thankfully, most 

manufacturers are very good about 

identifying VRAM clearly so consumers 

know what’s what. 

The biggest RAM-hogs on most home 

computers are the operating system itself, 

and the web browser. There’s not 

much you can do to make Windows 

or MacOS use less memory, but more 

RAM in your computer means that you 

can open more browser tabs in Chrome, 

Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc. In addition, 

some websites use more RAM than 

others. A simple text news story is relatively 

light on memory, while something 

like Gmail or Netflix uses quite a bit. 

Programs tend to use more RAM as 

they increase in complexity. A chat program 

or a game like Minesweeper will 

use almost no RAM, while a gigantic 

Excel spreadsheet or a huge Photoshop 

project might use more than a gigabyte 

all by itself. Professional and engineering 

software is created to tackle very 

difficult projects, and tends to consume 

the most RAM of all programs. Modern 

3D games can also use quite a bit of 

RAM and VRAM, especially if you have 

the settings dialed to 11. In other words, 

your need for RAM is dependent on the 

programs you use. 

To wrap things up, here’s some simple 

guidelines that apply to all PC devices. 

2GB: Good only for stripped-down 

tablets, budget Chromebooks 

4GB: Minimum for budget Windows 

and MacOS systems, great for Chromebooks 

8GB: Excellent for Windows and MacOS 

systems 

16GB: Probably overkill for most; ideal 

for mid-range workstations 

32GB and beyond: Enthusiasts and 

purpose-built workstations only 

Remember, buying more RAM than you 

need doesn’t net you any performance 

benefit. It’s effectively wasted money. 

Buy what you need, and spend what’s 

left in your budget on more important 

components, such as the CPU or video 

card.

SOUTHEAST ASIA BUSINESS ROUNDUP 

Indonesia 

Indonesian state-owned electricity company 

Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) is slated to 

raise US$1.5 billion from a global bonds issuance 

in April. 

PLN had planned to launch the bonds in March, 

but delayed the issuance following the disbursement 

of state capital injection and subsidy funds. 

Proceeds from the issuance will be used to help 

PLN build power plants across the country, a 

plan that is in line with the government’s target 

to produce an additional 35,000 megawatts of 

electricity under President Joko Widodo’s administration. 

In the next five years, PLN predicts 

investments into power plants, transmission, 

and distribution will amount to US$12.7 billion. 

Indonesia’s ambition to boost infrastructure is 

expensive, and the country is maximizing all 

of its funding pockets in a bid to keep up with 

the economic growth of many of its Asean compatriots. 

Recently, the Indonesian Finance Minister 

announced a cut to all partnerships with JP 

Morgan Chase & Co after the bank released 

research downgrading the nation’s stocks. The 

move came as a surprise to the international 

business community. 

In the report, rating on Indonesian equities was 

downgraded to underweight from overweight, 

noting that a rise in bond-market volatility 

“increases emerging-market risk premiums.” 

Singapore/Malaysia 

The Regal International Group recently announced 

the signing of a 90 million ringgit deal 

with Malaysia’s Myangkasa Bina Sdn Bhd or 

Angkasa, for the sale of 276 residential units 

involved in Negeri Sembilan. 

The units are part of Regal’s Airtrollis property 

development project which will be erected for 

the project’s third phase. 

As per the agreement, Angkasa will market and 

sell all residential apartments, or purchase all 

unsold units upon completion, for an aggregate 

value of 90 million ringgit. 

The third phase will commence in 2017 and is 

slated for completion in 2020. 

Myanmar 

On 20 January the First Private Bank (FPB) 

became the fourth listing on the fledgling Yangon 

Stock Exchange (YSX). 

YSX only opened in December 2015 and is 

aiming to reach a total of 10 listings in 2017. 

Two more companies, Great Hor Kham and 

Myanmar Agribusiness Public Corporation are 

likely to follow FPB in 2017. 

First Private Bank will be making its listing debut 

with plans to trade its current paid up capital 

of about 24.7 billion kyat (about US$18 million) 

as of August 2016. Their authorised capital is 

100 billion kyat. 

Founded in 1991, the company has 32 

branches with 610 employees handling domestic 

financial services including investment 

banking as well as a mobile banking service 

with the brand name, MyKyat. 

For 2015-16, FPB had deposits of about 93 

billion kyat, around 10 billion kyat increase 

from the previous year. Its loan disbursements 

amounted to 143 billion kyat for 2015-16. 

Its CEO, U Sein Maung, including 10 board 

of directors take up 14.79 percent shares and 

the rest by other shareholders. 

The company’s return on equity for 2015-16 

was 13.67 percent, down from 16.82 percent 

the previous year.

SCB EXPANDS SME MARKET 

WITH 150% LTV LENDING 

FOR UP TO 30 YEARS 

Siam Commercial Bank has 

launched an “SME Ready 2 

Grow” campaign as part of its 

continuous effort to provide small 

and medium-size enterprise 

(SME) operators access to financial 

opportunities and products. 

Under the campaign, the bank is 

ready to lend up to 150% loan-tovalue 

(LTV) for business expansion 

or working capital support 

and 100% LTV for workplace 

purchases with a maximum loan 

term of 30 years. For business 

start-up loans, the bank is ready 

to offer 90% LTV lending for up 

to 10 years. To participate in propelling 

the national e-payment 

development strategy for a cashless 

society, SCB provided SME 

operators with Electronic Data 

Capture (EDC) services together 

with cheque books to boost performance

CHEST PAIN OR DISCOMFORT IS WORTH FOLLOWING UP ON! 

Angina is a pain that comes from the 

heart. It is usually caused by narrowing 

of the coronary (heart) arteries. Usual 

treatment includes a statin medicine 

to lower your cholesterol level, lowdose 

aspirin to help prevent a heart 

attack, and a beta-blocker medicine to 

help protect the heart and to prevent 

angina pains. An angiotensin-converting 

enzyme (ACE) inhibitor medicine 

is advised in some cases. Sometimes 

angioplasty or surgery are options to 

widen, or to bypass, narrowed arteries. 

What is angina? 

Angina is a pain that comes from the 

heart. Each year about 20,000 people 

in the UK develop angina for the first 

time. It is more common in people 

over the age of 50 years. It is also 

more common in men than women. 

Sometimes it occurs in younger people. 

What are the symptoms of angina? 

The common symptom is a pain, 

ache, discomfort or tightness that you 

feel across the front of the chest when 

you exert yourself. An angina pain 

does not usually last long. Some people 

with angina also become breathless 

when they exert themselves. 

Occasionally, this is the only symptom 

and there is no pain. 

How do doctors know that I have 

angina? 

In many cases the diagnosis is made 

by doctors based on the typical symp- 

toms. No further tests may then be 

necessary. Tests are advised in some 

cases when the diagnosis is not clear, 

or sometimes to assess the severity 

of the condition. The test or tests that 

you have will depend on what is available 

locally and whether the test is 

suitable for you. One or more of these 

may be advised: 

• Echocardiography is an ultrasound 

of the heart. During this test you may 

be asked to exert yourself or be given 

an injection to make your heart work 

harder. The operator will then be 

able to see your heart working under 

stress. 

• An MRI scan can also show how 

your heart works under stress, as 

above. Some people may find MRI 

scans difficult. You need to lie very still 

in a confined space. 

• An angiogram may be recommended 

for some people. In this test a dye 

is injected into the coronary arteries. 

The dye can be seen by special X-ray 

equipment. This shows up the structure 

of the arteries (like a road map) 

and can show the location and severity 

of any narrowing. 

Briefly, risk factors that can be modified 

and may help to prevent angina from 

getting worse include: 

• Smoking. If you smoke, you should 

make every effort to stop. 

• High blood pressure. Your blood 

pressure should be checked regularly, 

at least once a year, if you have angina. 

If it is high, it can be treated. 

• If you are overweight, losing some 

weight is advised. Losing weight will 

reduce the amount of workload on 

your heart and also help to lower your 

blood pressure. 

• High cholesterol. This should be 

treated if it is high. 

• Inactivity. You should aim to do 

some moderate physical activity on 

most days of the week for at least 30 

minutes. For example, brisk walking, 

swimming, cycling, dancing, gardening, 

etc. (Occasionally, angina is due to a 

heart valve problem where physical 

activity may not be so good. Ask your 

doctor to confirm that you can undertake 

regular physical activity.) 

• Diet. You should aim to eat a healthy 

diet. A healthy diet means: 

o At least five portions (and ideally 

7-9 portions) of a variety of fruit and 

vegetables per day. 

o You should not eat much fatty 

food such as fatty meats, cheeses, 

full-cream milk, fried food, butter, 

etc. Ideally you should use low-fat, 

monounsaturated or polyunsaturat 

ed spreads. 

o Try to include 2-3 portions of fish 

per week, at least one of which 

should be oily (such as herring, 

mackerel, sardines, kippers, salmon, 

or fresh tuna). 

o If you eat red meat, it is best to 

eat lean red meat, or eat poultry 

such as chicken. 

o If you do fry, choose a vegetable 

oil such as sunflower, rapeseed or 

olive. 

o Try not to add salt to food, and 

limit foods which are salty. 

• Alcohol. Some research suggests 

that drinking a small amount of alcohol 

may be beneficial for the heart. The 

exact amount is not clear, but it is a 

small amount. So, do not exceed the 

recommended amount of alcohol as 

more than the recommended upper 

limits can be harmful. That is, men 

should drink no more than 21 units 

of alcohol per week, no more than 

four units in any one day, and have 

at least two alcohol-free days a week. 

Women should drink no more than 14 

units of alcohol per week, no more 

than three units in any one day, and 

have at least two alcohol-free days a 

week. One unit is in about half a pint 

of normal strength beer, or two thirds 

of a small glass of wine, or one small 

pub measure of spirits.

spray or tablets with you. Some people 

take a GTN tablet or a spray before 

any exercise - for example, before 

climbing stairs. If the first dose does 

not work, take a second dose after 

five minutes. If the pain persists for 10 

minutes despite taking GTN, then call 

an ambulance. 

GTN works by relaxing the blood 

vessels. This reduces the workload 

on the heart, and also helps to widen 

the coronary arteries and increase the 

flow of blood to the heart muscle.

THAILAND TO INCREASE ITS 

TOURISM TARGETS 

Thailand’s 2017 tourism revenue 

target has been increased to 2.71 

trillion baht, from 2.5 trillion earlier 

last year, by the Tourism and 

Sports Ministry, a rise of some 8.2 

per cent. 

From this figure, 1.78 trillion baht 

is expected to come from foreign 

tourists and 930 billion baht from 

domestic tourism, an increase of 

7.5 per cent. 

Of particular interest was the expected 

rise in visitors from the 

neighbouring countries of Cambodia, 

Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam, 

collectively known as CLMV. 

In part this is likely to be due to 

the rising incomes and improving 

economies in those countries. 

CLMV is expected to account for 

96.7 billion baht of international 

visitor revenue, up twenty per

land expects to host more than 

3.25 million visitors from those 

neighbouring countries, up 17.4 

per cent from 2016. 

Tourism and Sports Minister, 

Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, was 

quoted as saying “Thailand will 

draw more tourists from nearby 

countries because it is an aviation 

hub in the region and there 

are more connections to secondary 

cities. Next year we will focus 

more on tourists from Asean and 

European countries to help drive 

tourism revenue. This will perhaps 

compensate for the drop in 

Chinese tourists as China is facing 

a weak economy.” 

There is an expectation that Thailand 

will benefit from European 

tourists changing their plans from 

visiting Turkey due to recent multiple 

terrorist events and the feeling 

that there is a growing threat 

there. 

A stabilising of various currencies 

will also provide a good financial 

reason for international tourists 

to visit the Kingdom, particularly 

those from Europe who have seen 

the value of their currencies fluctuate 

in the previous year. Russian 

tourists may also start to return as 

their currency has seen some appreciation 

from recent lows allow- 

ing for the purchase of cheaper 

airfares and also providing more 

spending power after arrival. 

To facilitate the expected rise in 

visitor arrivals there will be major 

upgrades and expansions 

of Dong Mueang, Phuket and 

U-Tapao airports since these are 

considered strategic travel hubs 

for incoming flights. 

In addition, there will be new plans 

to tempt international tourists. 

These plans include five separate 

points of focus, namely: weddings, 

sports, well-being, water activities, 

and Asean linkage. 

As for the increase in domestic 

tourism, Ms Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul 

was quoted as saying “We 

hope to achieve the 930 billion 

baht target from domestic tourism 

as there will be more transport 

and connection networks such as 

rail and road in the future that will 

benefit travellers.” 

A government tax break of up to 

15,000 baht for hotel expenditure 

and another 15,000 baht for 

goods and services will also help 

to spur domestic tourism.

Tencent operates WeChat, which competes 

against Japan’s LINE app, and the JV may well 

help Tencent to leverage on the use of entertainment 

and content assets to grow WeChat’s 

presence in the Thai market.

Charoen Pokphand Foods Plc (CP Foods) 

recently acquired a 33 percent stake in SuperDrob 

Capital Group, a family-run poultry 

company in Poland. CP Foods paid US$51.5 

million (Euro 49.50 million) in a move intended 

to give the Thai company access to markets in 

Poland and the EU. 

THAILAND BUSINESS ROUNDUP 

Tencent recently strengthened its presence in 

the Thai market by way of a joint venture (JV) 

with Thailand-based Ookbee, creating a firm 

called Ookbee U, which is intended to be the 

foundation of a digital media content ecosystem. 

Ookbee is a digital entertainment platform startup 

which began in 2011 as an online book and 

magazine business and engaged content creators 

across Southeast Asia. It has expanded 

its offerings to include user-generated comics, 

novels, music, short videos, and idea sharing. 

The JV by Tencent and Ookbee is aimed at 

promoting user-generated content and cover a 

diverse array of online media. Tencent recently 

rebranded its Thai web portal Sanook, a whollyowned 

subsidiary, to Tencent Thailand in an 

attempt to consolidate its brand. 

Ookbee CEO Natavudh Pungcharoenpong was 

quoated as saying “We used to compete with 

traditional book stores, but for this new company 

[the] idea is to be more flexible. The format can 

be anything. More than just books: music, 

comics, and experimenting with video.” 

Ookbee reports it has a user base in excess 

of eight million individuals across Thailand, 

Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam, 

with four million monthly active users. 

This development comes at a time when Tencent, 

alongside firms like Alibaba and JD.com 

are expanding across the Asean region. 

The company has been buying stakes in 

global agro companies as part of its plan to 

boost its annual revenue from $12.07 billion 

in 2015 to $19.8 billion in 2020 in the next five 

years. 

This acquisition closely follows the completion 

of CP Foods’ acquisition of the remaining 

stake in US-based Bellisio Foods Inc, a deal 

that was worth over $1 billion. Prior to that CP 

Foods had also announced the acquisition of 

China’s Cofco Meat Suqian for $27.2 million. 

SuperDrob, a poultry products manufacturer 

dispatches half of its products abroad 

to Britain, France, Germany and other EU 

countries as well as China. Its main products 

are such as fresh poultry meat, processed 

pre-seasoned and flavored poultry, as well as 

sausages and ham under its own brand. 

Adirek Sripratak, President and CEO of CP 

Foods mentioned this will mark the first step 

of CP Foods into poultry operations in the 

European country.

The Japanese Yen weakened against the 

US dollar substantially following Trump’s 

election victory, moving from 102 to 118.65. 

Subsequent movements have respected the 

aforementioned 118.65 level as a temporary 

top and the pair has traded lower to 113 and 

114 as part of an expected correction. Against 

the Thai Baht, the same movements have 

been mirrored with the Yen dropping from 0.35 

down to 0.30 to the Thai Baht and recovering 

slightly to 0.315. 

FOREIGN CURRENCY UPDATE 

The US Dollar vs. the Thai Baht exchange rate 

has been remarkably stable when considering 

both oversees and local events. Following 

Trump’s election victory the Baht weakened 

slightly from 35 to the US Dollar to 36, a fall of 

just under 3%. Much of this move has been 

reversed in recent weeks with the US Dollar 

fetching 35.4 baht. Worth watching is the Dollar 

index (DXY), which measures the US Dollar’s 

overall strength against a basket of currencies. 

It has moved to multi-year highs, hitting 104 

before retreating to 101. To give this some context 

the Dollar index has previously remained at 

below 95 for most of the last 2 years and below 

85 for the 3 years prior to that. 

The British pound has remained at the low end 

of the recent range fetching just 43 to 44 Thai 

Baht. It can’t seem to shake off the Brexit woes 

and looks set to possibly depreciate further 

against all major currencies. If it drops through 

the 42 Thai Baht mark, it could well head lower 

as Brexit plans, or a lack of them, emerge. Support 

is currently at 1.18 to the USD, which would 

equate to around 41.5 Thai Baht, but a dip even 

lower cannot be ruled out. 

The prospect of America having warmer 

ties with Russia has meant that the Russian 

Rouble has benefited of late. Even against a 

strengthening US Dollar the Rouble appreciated 

from 60 to 54 and against the Thai Baht 

it has moved from 0.53 to 0.59. This would 

need to be considered against previous rates 

barely two years ago, before the rouble crash, 

when it was trading at 33 to the US dollar and 

1 Rouble would fetch 1 Thai Baht. However, 

the recent move is a significant improvement. 

The Euro has also seen some weakness 

against the Greenback since the US election, 

but has remained less volatile and has put 

on arguably a slightly stronger recovery than 

some other currencies. Prior to the election the 

European unit was trading at 1.11 to the USD 

and fell to 1.03 before bouncing back recently 

to the 1.06 mark. Against the Thai Baht the 

moves have been slightly more muted since 

the Thai baht has also weakened somewhat. 

The Euro moved from 39 Thai Baht towards 

37, before recovering to 37.6 

In the previous issue we took a 

different slant on previous articles 

regarding the Asean Economic 

Community (AEC), choosing to start 

a series on its potential in ecommerce 

terms. This is the second 

part of this series. 

Drawing heavily from an article 

published online in November last 

year by Sheji Ho, it’s interesting to 

see where the ecommerce marketplace 

may be across the AEC by 

2025, particularly based on how 

much an average person is likely 

to spend on ecommerce in a given 

year. 

THE AEC AND ITS ECOMMERCE POTENTIAL, PART 2 

As of 2025, China will be the world’s 

largest ecommerce market reaching 

US$3 trillion in Gross Merchandise 

Volume (GMV) and with 25 percent 

penetration. ‘By 2025, the average 

Chinese shopper is expected to 

spend north of US$2,000 per year 

online, almost triple the amount 

Singaporeans will spend online and 

catching up quickly to Americans 

who, 10 years from now, will be 

spending almost $3,000 on ecommerce 

annually,’ writes Ho. 

What is really interesting is the projection 

for Thailand. Both Google 

and Temasek have reports which 

suggest Thailand’s ecommerce 

market will be around $11.1 billion 

by 2025, although in reality when 

broken down to per capita numbers 

this equates to just $155. Ho believes 

this is far too low. 

As he notes, ‘US and Singapore’s 

GDP per capita are obviously much 

higher than that of emerging markets 

like Thailand…, people have 

more money to spend in general, 

and China’s not exactly a developing 

country anymore with its GDP per 

capita projected to reach $14,000 

by 2025.’ 

Ho goes on to write, that ‘Thailand’s 

GDP per capita is estimated 

to reach $11,000 by 2025, which is 

higher than China’s GDP per capita 

today and not far from China’s 

projected 2025 number. However, 

based on current ecommerce projections, 

Thailand’s per capita online 

spend will only be $155 or one 

percent of household purchasing 

power.’ 

Ho suggests, ‘This doesn’t make 

sense given that Thai consumers 

do have spending power and retail 

makes up a large part of Thailand’s 

economy…’ 

From 2006 to 2016, China’s ecommerce 

GMV per capita grew 127 

times. It’s hard then to believe that 

Thailand’s GMV per capita will only 

grow nine times over the next decade, 

‘especially given that Thai 

people are already spending more 

online on a per person basis today 

than Chinese did at the beginning 

of the Chinese ecommerce boom 

around 2006.’ 

This only makes sense if we assume 

SEA’s growth markets like 

Thailand and Indonesia will grow at 

a modest, Western-style pace of 18 

percent (US 2000-2015) and won’t 

be growing at China ecommerce’s 

last 10-year CAGR of 68 percent. 

Ho believes ‘the reason for this 

discrepancy is the faulty application 

of a Western-centric ecommerce 

growth model whereas the right 

model to size up ecommerce in 

emerging SEA is actually the Chinese 

model of hyper-growth.’

well be flawed when it comes to 

AEC ecommerce numbers.
