CCR has extensive search capabilities through the VODs <strong>and</strong><br />

QUEST systems <strong>and</strong> provides the creation <strong>of</strong> records for<br />

processed persons, vehicles <strong>and</strong> property <strong>and</strong> the recording<br />

<strong>and</strong> maintenance <strong>of</strong> DNA.<br />

CCR deals with the central recording <strong>of</strong> crime reported in<br />

accordance with the National Crime Recording St<strong>and</strong>ards <strong>and</strong><br />

maintains close liaison with the Divisional Criminal Justice<br />

Units. It monitors escorted <strong>Defence</strong> Nuclear Material <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>Defence</strong> Nuclear Weapons movements with direct interface<br />

to DN&NARG, AWE <strong>and</strong> Home <strong>and</strong> Scottish Office <strong>Police</strong><br />

Forces. It also monitors the movement <strong>of</strong> explosives <strong>and</strong><br />

sensitive material. The implementation <strong>of</strong> NSPIS Comm<strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>and</strong> Control has resulted in significant advances in incident<br />

recording <strong>and</strong> management. CCR manages <strong>and</strong> records<br />

incidents for North East Division south <strong>of</strong> the Humber, as<br />

well as for specialist departments including the Operational<br />

Support Unit, the Force Surveillance Unit <strong>and</strong> the Fraud<br />

Squad. It also maintains a watching brief <strong>of</strong> real-time<br />

incidents across all MDP Divisions. O2 Airwave has provided<br />

CCR with the facility to talk direct to <strong>of</strong>ficers within their<br />

control area.<br />

Projects under way will strengthen the facilities available<br />

through the Central Control Room <strong>and</strong> through MDP’s<br />

communications networks with the Royal Military <strong>Police</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />

other agencies including Home Office Forces <strong>and</strong> the<br />

Highways <strong>Agency</strong>. This ensures that both comm<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />

operational <strong>of</strong>ficers have greater access to valuable<br />

resources <strong>and</strong> information.<br />

SPECIAL ESCORT GROUP<br />

The Special Escort Group (SEG), responsible for the<br />

escorting <strong>of</strong> all <strong>Defence</strong> Nuclear Material (DNM), has<br />

continued to develop procedures in order to provide<br />

maximum protective policing for Director Nuclear Movements.<br />

During the past twelve months the SEG has also provided<br />

support to the wider <strong>Defence</strong> customer at Trafalgar 200,<br />

Whitehall, at HMNB Clyde <strong>and</strong> at AWE Division.<br />
