PLANNED GIVING is a powerful tool for
donors committed to a strong and vibrant future
for the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art.
Planned gifts to the museum ensure that, for
generations to come, contemporary visual art
will engage and be accessible to broad audiences,
contributing to the vibrancy of our community.
Planned gifts, particularly those benefiting the
museum’s endowment, can have an extremely
positive impact on exhibitions, the permanent
collection, and education initiatives.
Selecting the best assets—and the methods
you use to gift them to MMoCA—may provide
significant tax and estate benefits. Thoughtfully
considered estate planning can put major giving
within reach of individuals who might not think it
otherwise possible, and can powerfully transform
the future of MMoCA. Here are some of the
most common methods:
BEQUESTS
A bequest transfers assets—a percentage of
an estate or a specific amount—to MMoCA
through a will or living trust.
LIFE INCOME GIFTS
Charitable Gift Annuities, Charitable Remainder
Trusts, and Charitable Lead Trusts allow you to
transfer assets to MMoCA now and to continue
to receive income from those assets during your
lifetime.

RETIREMENT ASSETS
Designate MMoCA as a full or partial beneficiary
of retirement assets. In some cases, older adults
may withdraw funds from retirement plans to make
charitable gifts without incurring additional tax
liabilities.
LIFE INSURANCE
Designate MMoCA as the beneficiary of a life
insurance policy. This may be appropriate if you
have a policy that is no longer needed.
STOCK
Gifts of long-term appreciated stock offer two-fold
tax benefits. You avoid paying capital gains on the
increased value of your stock; and, you receive a tax
deduction for the full fair market value of the stock.
REAL ESTATE
A gift of real estate that MMoCA has agreed to
accept can positively benefit the museum. In the
case of a residence, you may wish to reserve the
right to continue living on the property that you gift
to MMoCA.
ARTWORK
MMoCA’s collection is a tremendous community
resource. A gift of artwork that the museum has
agreed to accept will strengthen the museum’s
ability to serve its audiences for generations to
come.

As an independent non-profit organization,
the Madison Museum of Contemporary
Art has served the art interests of the
community since 1901. A specific focus
on providing direct experiences with high
quality works of art through exhibitions
and education programs has shaped the
museum’s unique role and enriched the
cultural life of some 200,000 visitors each
year. A robust endowment, strengthened
by bequests and other planned gifts, is
critical to the museum’s success.
The Board of Trustees of the Madison
Museum of Contemporary Art is pleased

the MMoCA Circle. You are eligible for
MMoCA Circle membership if you have
made provisions to support the museum
