Sioux Center’s retail sales
numbers look like those
of a community larger
than 7,500 people.
According to Iowa State Extension, the
sales are more like a community of 12,729
and those numbers continue to climb.
Centre Mall manager Dean Gabhart
keeps close track of retail sales figures and
has seen the community’s sales figures grow
significantly in recent years. According to
the Iowa Department of Revenue, Sioux
Center’s sales for fiscal year 2016, were at
$153.4 million, a 4.1 percent increase from
$147.5 million in 2015. Fiscal years run July
1-June 30.
“During the past 15 years, retail sales in
Sioux Center have doubled,” Gabhart said.
The retail sales number for Sioux Center
on a per capita basis is $20,582 — ranking
the community well ahead of the state retail
sales per capita figure of $12,437.
“We’re well represented in the retail
community,” Gabhart said. “We have grocery
stores, automobile dealers, furniture
stores and many other things. People gravitate
to Sioux Center to fill their shopping
needs.”
Brett Van Den Berg of Furniture Mart
appreciates the community’s customers.
“Our community has people who are
loyal — they want to shop local and look to
us first,” Van Den Berg said.
Having businesses who have a history of
meeting needs creates a conducive atmosphere
for retail sales.
