KORA SANDS SPRING 2017 UNIT’S COLONEL CORNER By Kora Units Colonel Bernie McAllister The Summer will soon be is here and with that comes much visibity of Kora Shrine Units to the public. With the Summer Ceremonial, parades and other events that have become part of our history we have a chance to increase awareness of our hospitals and our faternity. As we attend these events lets share with our communites the opportunities caring for children and being a Shrine Mason have to offer. In June we will be in Showhegan for our annual Summer Ceremonial. I hope to see you as part of the white water rafting trip on Friday June 9th, I am certain this will be a fun filled day. As you know by now, we will be based at the Showhegan Fair Gounds and I am encouraging all Kora members, even if you are not spending the weekend, to come to Showhegan for Saturday the 10th. Be on the sideline to show your support for the newest members of Kora and the Unit members as they parade on the streets. On July 15 th we be in Saco for the Annual Lobster Bowl Football Game at Thorton Academy Field. We plan to do what we have in the past with Unit members going on the field. As always, the Football Committee can use help and I would encourage anyone who can to call or e-mail Asst. Raban Brian Robbin and let him know where you can help. This will be the second year that there will be a Walk for Love to support Shriners Hospital. This is a one mile walk beginning and ending at Waterhouse Field. In August we have two big events the Northeast ShrineFall Field Dayin Ottawa, Canada. Hope you have planned to join us on the memorable trip. As many of you may have heard, in Ottawa some Kora members will be initiated into the Shriner International Hillybillies. There will be much more coming in the next edition of the Kora Sands or through Kora Connections. If you are interested in this group please contact me or Outer Guard Chris Desoto to discuss the next steps in the formation of this club and hopefully at some point become a Unit of Kora Shrine. Another club that has started is the Kora Brewmasters Cub. I want to thank Captain of the Guard Steve Peterson for his work in getting this club up & running and receiving their charter. The second be event will be on August on the 26th we will return to Turner to the annual Kora Kare Ride- In and Barbeque Competition. I want to give a shout out to Noble John Hutchins who is working on the creation of a ATV Club within Kora Shrine. I suspect that many ATV riders within Kora will be participating in the event. I know that John has some plans for other rides and to participte in parades. John is a member of the Aides Corp stop by and talk with him about his ideas. It is time to recommit ourselves to the existing units. I asking that unit members to support your unit’s leadership. There are members of Kora’s leadership team who are willing to work with units directors and other club officers on leadership skill necessary to run an effective unit.
