A few karts are being worked on now, getting some
much needed maintenance and updates. Nobles
Jaison Hall and Bernie Fortin have worked to give our
kart shields a fresh new look and boy don’t they shine!
On April 29 th , the unit will be having a spring get-together at
Amici’s Cucina, an Italian restaurant in Waterville. This was
a great opportunity for us to get together, socialize and just
have fun before the busy summer sets in. Summer ceremonial
should be coming right up and is an exciting time as it marks
the start of our parade season. If there are any new nobles
that are looking to join a fun and exciting unit, just search for
the yellow shirts. We are pretty visible at any Shrine event or
parade. Of course you can always get in touch with our unit
director Chris Bartsch (861-2772) or our Secretary Jaison Hall
(446-3576).
LEGION OF HONOR

On April 2, 2017 the Legion of Honor was at the Portland
Jetport to welcome home another Honor Flight. There were
five Legionnaires standing tall next to the Coast Guard and the
Marines. Definitely have to say we looked sharp! There were
about 30 Veterans on board the plane. It was a mixed group this
time. There were WWII, Korean, and Vietnam Veterans. They
were all happy to see us when they arrived. What impressed
everyone the most was the gentleman who was wearing a hat
that said: WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He was there to help
greet everyone who came off the plane. Talk about a hero. He
just blew us away.
MOTOR CORPS

We’re all getting our cars out for the parade season. Let’s
all remember that, even though vehicles with antique plates
don’t require a Maine annual safety inspection, they should be
checked thoroughly by a qualified mechanic before heading
for our first parade. We are here to help kids, not to put them
at risk.
If you haven’t already done so, please provide a copy of
your driver’s license, vehicle registration and insurance card to
Secretary Lee Wright. If you have acquired a vehicle that has
not yet been inspected by the unit, please arrange for this to
happen before driving it to a parade.
As of this writing, our meeting at 12:30 on April 30 at Bray’s
Brew Pub in Naples hasn’t yet happened. If you receive this issue
prior to that date, please plan to attend. The next meeting, at
which spouses are invited, will be held on Memorial Day at the
Clambake in Pine Point between the two parades.
The first parade will be in Brunswick/Topsham. Please be
sure to arrive early, as the Topsham police likely will close off
access to the lineup area at 8:00 A. M. The second one will be
in Old Orchard Beach. Target lineup time is noon. If we arrive
at the Clambake promptly at eleven when its doors open, we’ll
have time to eat and make it to the lineup on time.
This year looks like it will be a good one for the Motor
Corps. We plan on having a strong presence at many parades
and hope to participate in the Northeast Shrine Association
Field Days in Ottowa in August. Members, we need to make
our reservations for NESA now and discuss whether we want to
convoy to Ottowa.
As always, Nobles, if you have an antique, a convertible or
a specialty vehicle and you’re interested in joining the Motor
Corps, please let us know. We’d love to have you!

RENEGADES

Spring has sprung and parade season is here! The Renegades
are looking forward to our 41st year of delighting crowds all
over Maine. We have anywhere from 12-15 parades to prepare
for, so it’ll be a busy spring and summer.
We’re always looking for new recruits to squeeze into
the Jeeps, and to enjoy fellowship and hospitality after the
parades. If you want to join an active, family-friendly unit, give
us a try!
