Umar bin Al-Khattab ~ wanted to personally lead the<br />

army in this critical battle, so he appointed Ali bin Abi<br />

Talib ~ as his deputy to rule Madinah in his absence. He<br />

also made a decision to consult with Uthman bin Affan<br />

~ and other prominent Companions before leaving<br />

Madinah.<br />
