al-harir denotes howling or<br />
rumbling.<br />
During the Night <strong>of</strong><br />
Howling and the Day <strong>of</strong> Al<br />
<strong>Qadisiyyah</strong>, 2,500 Muslim<br />
soldiers were martyred,<br />
while from the side <strong>of</strong> the<br />
fire-worshipping Iranians,<br />
10,000 polytheists were<br />
consigned to the fire <strong>of</strong><br />
hell. After losing such<br />
an enormous number <strong>of</strong><br />
fighters, the spirit <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Iranians sank.<br />
<strong>The</strong> commanders <strong>of</strong> the Muslim military units <strong>of</strong>fered<br />
guidance and encouragement to their troops to attack<br />
the enemy. <strong>The</strong>y gave them advice in a pragmatic and<br />
sensible manner. <strong>The</strong>y told them, "O fighters <strong>of</strong> Islam,<br />
show endurance and steadfastness. Victory is waiting<br />
for you. Now the battle has entered the decisive phase."<br />
Sayyidana Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas ~ had turned to his<br />
Lord in the stillness <strong>of</strong> the night. Throughout the night he<br />
continued beseeching his Sustainer for victory and help.
