Dogs are leading the pack as pet ring
bearers — they are man’s best friend after
all. The key is to put a leash on your dog
for the day and have someone walk with
him/her down the aisle. Since the wedding
rings are usually strapped onto the animal
you certainly don’t want it running off with
this valuable possession-thus the leash!
Here are some quick tips
to keep in mind:
• Your pet needs to be a part of the
wedding rehearsal just like the rest of
the wedding party; this will give you a
good idea of how the animal is likely
to perform on the actual day.
• While you and your guests are enjoying
the delicious food, make sure that you
make preparations for your pet as well.
You certainly don’t want a hungry dog
whimpering at people’s feet while they
try to enjoy their meals. Make sure that
there is food for the particular animal
and that someone is there to feed it
at the appropriate time—there should
also be a space designated for this.
• Make sure that your pet is properly
groomed on the day of the wedding.
A bath and a nice trim is really all you
need; because a dirty, smelly animal
at a fancy, upscale event is a no! no!
• There’s nothing cuter than a dog in a
tuxedo, but you don’t need to go all
out if your pet isn’t comfortable, a nice
bowtie or a diamond encrusted collar
works just fine.
Ultimately the choice to include your pet in your wedding —if carefully, thought out and expertly executed
— can be a memorable moment - not just for the bride and groom but for the guests as well.
