The decision around whether you connect <strong>to</strong> people on <strong>LinkedIn</strong> who you do not know is of course<br />
personal choice, just bear in mind all of the benefits that go with having a strong and large netw<strong>or</strong>k bef<strong>or</strong>e<br />
making the choice <strong>to</strong> restrict your netw<strong>or</strong>k <strong>to</strong> people you know personally. It is also very easy <strong>to</strong> block,<br />
rep<strong>or</strong>t <strong>or</strong> remove a connection that you accept and no longer want <strong>to</strong> have in your netw<strong>or</strong>k.<br />

One of the easiest way <strong>to</strong> build your connections is <strong>to</strong> connect with all of your current and previous clients.<br />
Even if you have not done business with someone f<strong>or</strong> a while, it’s a good way <strong>to</strong> re-engage with them and<br />
re-kindle the relationship. This alone should help <strong>to</strong> get you closer <strong>to</strong> 500+ connections.<br />
Tip 17 – Connect with Suppliers<br />
<strong>Your</strong> supplier’s netw<strong>or</strong>ks are invaluable. As a cus<strong>to</strong>mer of the business if you asked f<strong>or</strong> help in securing a<br />
connection I am sure that they would be happy <strong>to</strong> help. They want <strong>to</strong> keep you as a cus<strong>to</strong>mer and are m<strong>or</strong>e<br />
than likely <strong>to</strong> connect with you and m<strong>or</strong>e imp<strong>or</strong>tantly, facilitate introductions <strong>to</strong> other people in their netw<strong>or</strong>k.<br />
Tip 18 – Connect with Ex-Colleagues<br />
A <strong>Business</strong> Coach in the UK, Andrew came on one of our <strong>LinkedIn</strong> Masterclass courses in 2011. We talked<br />
about the benefits of connecting with people you used <strong>to</strong> w<strong>or</strong>k with, ex-collegues, team members,<br />
managers, sub<strong>or</strong>dinates. During that course he reconnected with an ex-colleague of 15 years previous,<br />
they had w<strong>or</strong>ked <strong>to</strong>gether at Unilever. That one connection he made transf<strong>or</strong>med his business and in 2012,<br />
that one connection was w<strong>or</strong>th 75% of his turnover last year. It has since spun off in<strong>to</strong> m<strong>or</strong>e business f<strong>or</strong><br />

These d<strong>or</strong>mant connections, people who you may not have dealt with in the last 4 <strong>or</strong> 5 years, will have a<br />
strong affinity with you, want <strong>to</strong> help you providing you have always got on well in the past and in the last 4<br />
<strong>or</strong> 5 years will have been building an amazing netw<strong>or</strong>k themselves which could be of use <strong>to</strong> you and vice<br />
versa. It is always w<strong>or</strong>thwhile <strong>to</strong>uching base with ex-colleagues.<br />
Tip 19 – Toplinked.com<br />
Visit TopLinked.com, and register with a free account. This will add you <strong>to</strong> a list of people who are willing <strong>to</strong><br />
be invited by others that want <strong>to</strong> grow a strong netw<strong>or</strong>k. This will increase the number of times you are<br />
invited <strong>to</strong> connect by other people. In addition you will receive regular updates from TopLinked.com with<br />
lists of people who are happy <strong>to</strong> be invited <strong>to</strong> connect, even if you do not know them. Using this list can<br />
increase your number of connections very quickly. One contact of Sam’s in the recruitment sect<strong>or</strong>,<br />
established 2000+ new connections in less than 24hours!<br />
Tip 20 – Connect with your Staff<br />
If you run a business with a team, then ensure that you connect with each of your staff. There are a number<br />
of reasons f<strong>or</strong> this, firstly you can see who they are connecting with and be ahead of the game if they<br />
suddenly start connecting with recruiters <strong>or</strong> head-hunters! However the main benefit is that you can train<br />
your entire team how <strong>to</strong> use <strong>LinkedIn</strong> effectively and replicate your VCP way beyond your own capabilities.<br />
