FACULTY NEWS & NOTES<br />

DR. KENNETH W. OSBECK passed away on March<br />

27, <strong>2017</strong>. Dr. Osbeck was instrumental in starting the<br />

fine arts program at <strong>Cornerstone</strong>, where he served as<br />

professor for 17 years (1966-83). He taught music and<br />

directed the Women’s Chorus.<br />

While teaching, he was also the music director for<br />

several local churches and authored many books about<br />

church music, hymnology and worship. His wife,<br />

Elizabeth, started the theatre program at <strong>Cornerstone</strong><br />

and taught for 16 years, retiring at the same time as her<br />

husband.<br />

RACHEL HAMMOND, M.M., assistant professor of<br />

business, was published in the <strong>2017</strong> issue of Christian<br />

Business Academy Review with her article entitled<br />

“Impact of Student-Led Instruction vs. Professor-<br />

Led Instruction on Course Performance and Student<br />

Perceptions of Learning.”<br />

DR. JONATHAN MARKO, assistant professor of<br />

philosophical and systematic theology, published a book<br />

entitled “Measuring the Distance Between Locke and<br />

Toland: Reason, Revelation, and Rejection During the<br />

Locke-Stillingfleet Debate.”<br />

DR. DESIREE DUFF, professor of communication,<br />

chaired a panel titled “Women’s Voices: Civic<br />

Engagement of their Times” at the National<br />

Communication Association Convention in<br />

Philadelphia, Pa.<br />

DR. GERALD LONGJOHN, vice president of<br />

student development and professor of organizational<br />

leadership & development, was selected to participate<br />

in the CIC’s <strong>2017</strong> Executive Leadership Academy this<br />

summer, which is designed to equip vice presidents to<br />

serve as effective leaders in universities.<br />

DR. JONATHAN GREER, associate professor of<br />

Old Testament and director of the Hesse Memorial<br />

Archaeological Laboratory, co-chaired a session titled<br />

“The Tell Dan Excavations at Fifty: Celebrating the<br />

Fiftieth Anniversary of Excavations at Tell Dan—<br />

Past Discoveries and New Directions” at the annual<br />

meetings of the Evangelical Theological Society, the<br />

Society of Biblical Literature and the American Schools<br />

of Oriental Research in San Antonio, Texas.<br />

DR. ALAN BLANCHARD, associate professor of<br />

journalism, is departing <strong>Cornerstone</strong> <strong>University</strong> after<br />

20 years of faithful service as a teacher and mentor<br />

in the journalism program. During his time at CU,<br />

he founded the journalism major and led the CU<br />

newspaper, The Herald, in twice winning the Michigan<br />

Collegiate Press Association General Excellence for<br />

Campus Newspaper award.<br />
