WORLDWIDE APPEAL OF WOMEN’S EHF EURO EVENTS The Women’s EHF EURO 2016 in Sweden will be a worldwide event, with matches being broadcast in more than 150 countries by more than 65 individual broadcasters. The agreements have been brokered by Infront Sports & Media, the media and marketing partner of the European Handball Federation. Two years ago, the TV figures for the Women’s EHF EURO 2014 in Hungary and Croatia reached record heights. A cumulative audience of 723 million was reached, marking the highest ever result for the championship. The result marked not only a 90 per cent increase on the 2012 edition in Serbia (380 million), but also significantly topped the previous record set in 2006 in Sweden (461 million). In terms of broadcast hours, the 2014 results were equally remarkable. With 1,919 broadcast hours, the women’s tournament in Hungary and Croatia confirmed its upward trend through an impressive 65 per cent climb of 758 hours compared to 2012. “These extremely positive audience figures underline once again the huge worldwide following that the EHF EURO events enjoy, whilst at the same time showing us just how popular the women’s game is with TV audiences,” said former EHF President Jean Brihault following the EHF EURO 2014. “The continued investment by the EHF and our partners Infront in digital media is also paying dividends, helping us to attract an ever-increasing number of new fans to our sport.” Further to the matches broadcast by the event’s TV partners, ehfTV, the online TV platform of the European Handball Federation, will stream all 47 matches live (geo-blocking will apply). ehfTV can be reached at www.ehfTV.com.
