Krone drum brakes make UK
debut with Matt Lorne Transport
Matt Lorne Transport Ltd,
based in Goole, East Yorkshire,
is the first operator in the UK
to specify Krone drum brakes
and, says owner Matt Lorne,
the company has experienced
good fuel figures and smooth
running over the first two
months on the road.
“The new Krone axle and
drum brake rolls really
well. We are already
seeing operational
benefits through improved
fuel consumption and our
drivers say the trailers
handle perfectly.”

curtainsiders have been added
to the fleet and are being used
to transport bathroom units and
modular buildings throughout the
UK – ‘from Truro to Aberdeen’.
According to Matt, the combination
of sliding roof and Krone’s Multi-Lock
loading system makes the trailers
ideal for loading and securing large
items of cargo.
“There’s no other sliding roof like it”
says Matt. “The fabrication quality
is miles ahead of the game. Plus,
with strapping points every 100 mm
down each side rave, we can secure
at any point along the trailer bed,
even from inside the closed curtain,
which is a safety-plus.”
The Krone axle comes with a 6-year
unlimited mileage warranty and like
all Krone trailer equipment for the
UK and Ireland, is fully supported by
Krone parts and service from within
the UK.
“We are a national operation” adds
Matt, “and cover a lot of miles. It’s
important therefore to use an axle
system which is hard wearing
and cheaper to maintain. In this
regard, we are delighted to be the
first to put the new Krone Drums to
the test!”
Krone reports that a further 50
trailers fitted with Krone axles and
drum brakes are currently on order
from other UK operators and this
figure looks set to increase sharply
during 2017.

McArdle International returns to
Krone for ‘Dual-Temperature Control’
DG McArdle International, the Co.
Monaghan-based ambient and
temperature controlled transport
specialists whose main distribution
hub is in Dublin, have once again
returned to Krone for a repeat order
of Cool Liner refrigerated trailers.
This time, the trailers are fitted with
Krone’s new ISOwall moveable
bulkhead, which is lighter and easier
to operate and provides McArdle with
optimum dual-temperature control.
Operating throughout Ireland and
Europe, McArdle’s modern fleet now
includes 120 trailers - all of which
are specified to the highest standard
and fitted with GPS tracking
systems - to enable real time vehicle
monitoring anywhere in Europe.

Volvo and Krone couple-up for
anniversary truck trials
Volvo and Krone couple-up for
anniversary truck trials
Volvo Trucks, United Kingdom
and Ireland, report successful
trials for a limited-edition
FH16-750 after it recently
pulled a new Krone Profi Liner
curtainsider from Gothenburg
to the tip of Scotland.
Like Volvo’s FH16, the Profi Liner
is specially produced to mark the
50th anniversary of Volvo’s entry
into the UK and Ireland and like
all Krone trailers used by Volvo for
truck demonstrations and trials, the
Profi Liner, loaded on this occasion
with concrete blocks to a maximum
28 tonnes for the UK and 24 tonnes
for the continent, proved to be as
reliable as ever.
“50 of the special, Ailsa FH16s
have been produced” says Martin
Tomlinson, Volvo’s Head of Product
Demonstration, “and it seemed
fitting to make Ailsa Craig, in north
west Scotland, a destination point
during the trial. As we expected, the
Krone trailer ran smoothly and as
usual, without any problems.”
The Profi Liner is branded with
Volvo’s distinctive 50th Anniversary
livery and as standard, features
a sliding roof for easy over-head
loading. Meanwhile, for maximum
load security, there are up to 130
lashing points along each trailer
side rave which enables Volvo to
securely strap its concrete cargo
anywhere along the trailer bed
and to achieve optimum weight
distribution.

for our demonstration fleet”

apart from anything else,
the equipment is well-built

AET celebrates 40th
anniversary as new
Krone trailers join
the fleet
Curvin Transport, the general
haulage arm of AET Transport
Services, have added a
further 9 Krone Profi Liner
curtainsiders to their UK
and European fleet. Based
in Poole, Dorset and part of
the 40 year-established AET
Transport Group, Curvin
Transport is using the new
trailers for general distribution,
including palletised freight,
on national and international
routes.
According to AET Managing
Director Andrew Trotter, the Profi
Liners’ loading flexibility is an asset
to their operation.
“These curtainsiders are fitted with
sliding roofs which is ideal for fast
and secure loading - especially
when dealing with outsized loads.
Additionally, they are fitted with the
standard Krone Multi Lock loading
system which has around 130
lashing points along each side rave.
This provides virtually unlimited
strapping options and means that
the cargo is firmly secured at any
point along the trailer bed.
Furthermore,” adds Andrew “the
curtain straps can be accessed
from outside and inside the trailer,
which is a plus-point for driver
comfort and safety.”
Manufactured at Krone’s dry freight
trailer plant in Werlte, Germany, the
Profi Liners are Code XL -certified
which, says Andrew Trotter, is
important to satisfy VOSA security
criteria and an absolute must for
European work.
“These trailers are built for
pan-European operations
and in that regard, ideally
suited to our diverse
customer base. Simply
put, they represent value
for money, flexible loading
and are more than up to
the job our customers
require.”
AET, established in 1977, provide
