Krone launch new
container carrier trailer
for UK and Ireland
Krone has introduced a new
container carrier trailer for
the UK and Ireland and the
first consignment has been
taken by H B Commercial, the
vehicle service, parts, rentals
and sales group
The new ‘Box Liner’ trailer is
manufactured by Krone in Europe
and HB Commercial have agreed
to be a Krone service agent and
replacement parts distributor
for the East of England.
HB Commercial Managing Director
Howard Brunt (Pictured) says,
“We are delighted to be given the
opportunity to work as the service
agent for Krone and with this new
and exciting product we look forward
to its success. The Krone Box Liner
has been initially well accepted by
our customers, reporting back that
they are easy to operate and even
with a 25-tonne container, drivers
are reporting a very smooth slide.”
The Box Liner was designed with
close involvement from the Krone
UK sales team – primarily to ensure
compatibility with the UK and Irish
market. The sliding chassis is quickly
and easily adjusted to carry any
standard sized dry freight or tank
container and its no-frills specification
ensures easy and fast operation.
According to Krone’s UK Sales
Manager Jason Chipchase, the new
Box Liner combines features which
have been tried and tested over
several decades with the latest paint
application process and cuttingedge
telematics technology.
The result, says Jason, is a
no-nonsense specification built for
loading flexibility, asset management
control and a long working life.
As an additional extra, the Krone
Telematics package enables HB
Commercial and their customers
to monitor tyre pressures, mileage
records for maintenance intervals,
empty running or reduced-load
miles, braking system status and
trailer location. Additionally, an
automatic notification can be given
to alert regarding ABS or EBS
malfunctions and a further alert
made to the customer if any remedial
work has not been carried out within
a given time frame.
“We bought some Krone
curtainsiders in 2011, which were of
a high standard and these new Box
Liners are no exception: Premium
quality paint finish and designed to
cope with the rigours of tough, pickup-and-drop
container work.”
Howard stated this all
fits with their company’s
commercial plan and the
container carrier rental
sector is strong.

Krone raises ‘transport solution
bar’ as Keyo enters 50th year
Keyo, the agricultural
services, logistics and
equipment hire specialist
has added a Krone Dry Liner
box trailer to its fleet which,
says the company, in its
50th anniversary year, marks
a step up in load security,
volume and build quality.
Based in Scunthorpe, North
Lincolnshire, Keyo’s services
include complete door-to-door
logistics as well as module
fabrication, repairs, third party
forklift servicing and spot hire
and refurbishments. The Dry Liner
from Krone is being used for rural
deliveries throughout the UK.
“We deliver to farms, often with
restricted access, throughout the
UK and our cargo requires delicate
and safe handling.” Comments
Managing Director, Mark van den
Bos. “Consequently, we required
a box trailer which would combine
strength, security and maximum load
space within a 4m overall height.
With the Krone Dry Liner, we have
all this and more.”
Manufactured by Krone in Germany,
the Dry Liner specified by Keyo,
comes with a steel roof, hydraulic
tail lift platform - which folds up to
serve as the rear door – two rows
of recessed LoadLok and drum
brakes. Furthermore, for daily forklift
use, the floor is tested to 7 tonnes.
The construction is also certified
to European standard, Code XL.

opinion, the technical knowledge

In this regard, Krone achieved an
internal height of 2615mm, with a
fifth wheel height of 1250mm, within
the maximum European-permitted
height of 4m.

New bulkhead
for UK and Ireland
dual-temp control

Krone, the Germanybased
international trailer
manufacturer, has introduced
a new, lightweight moveable
bulkhead for dual-temperature
use in their Cool Liner
refrigerated trailers.
Called ISOWALL and manufactured
at Krone’s Lubtheen plant in
Germany, the new bulkhead weighs
just 120 kg, is strong, easy to
operate and can be retrofitted in
under one hour – without the need
for special tools.
A newly designed balancer
system combined with a locking
lever positioned at the top of the
bulkhead, makes the ISOWALL
easy to open, close and slide along
the trailer. Also, due to the vertical
movement of the bulkhead when
opening and closing, no additional
components are required for
vacuum ventilation.
Furthermore, when stowed to the
roof, magnets hold the bulkhead in
place, so there is no requirement
for secondary locking or risk of fork
lift obstruction. When in use, the
ISOWALL can be positioned hard-up
against the load for added security
and efficient use of load space.
For mixed trailer fleets, with varying
internal heights, the ISOWALL
comes with a one-piece inner and
outer GRP skin and can easily
be cut to fit, while the rollers and
balancers can be repaired or
replaced without removing the
whole panel.
Servicing too is made easier and
safer with the inclusion of highstrength
reinforced, noise-reducing
plastic sliders. While tension
adjustment also requires no special
tools, and can be done under
10 minutes.
The new moveable
bulkhead is already in
strong demand throughout
the UK and Ireland
and can be seen with
Krone’s latest Cool Liner
temperature-controlled
trailer at this year’s
TCS&D Show in Coventry.

Krone raises the
roof for Suttle
Transport
Suttle Transport Services Ltd,
based in Tockwith, Wetherby
has purchased three lifting,
sliding-roof Krone Profi
Liner curtainsiders to cope
with their specialist,
high-cube loads.
The company operates throughout
the UK, Holland, Germany and
Belgium and carries a wide range
of high-volume cargo, including
packaging materials, horticultural
products and equipment for the
events industry.
“We specified Krone Profi Liners
with lifting and sliding roofs” says
Managing Director, Alan Suttle,
“to give us the loading flexibility
required for over-sized and mixed
freight. Trees for example or stage
equipment can be loaded through
the top and then literally wrapped, as
the roof is lowered to the appropriate
running height.”
For domestic use the
trailers run at a height of
4112 mm and by using
the hydraulic-roof ratchet
system, the roof can be
lowered in 50mm stages
by up to 150mm – to
comply with the continental
4m height restriction.
When loading, the roof can be raised
by up to 500mm, which allows an
impressive 3060mm height through
the sides and rear. After loading is
complete, the roof is then closed and
lowered to its chosen height.
Moreover, the Profi Liners are fitted
as standard with Krone’s award
winning Multi Lock side raves. Each
of which has up to 130 lashing points,
to afford virtually limitless strapping
options.
“The loading restraint is another
feature which you only find on a
Krone curtainsider.” Adds Alan. “With
the Krone Multi Lock system we can
strap anywhere along each side rave,
which makes it possible to securely
load cages, pallets or whatever
at any point along the trailer bed.
Plus, to compliment this, the trailers
come with Krone’s roof-mounted
straps, which slide along the trailer
length and pull down to fix onto the
side raves. Again, great all-round
flexibility.”
Suttle Transport runs a mixed vehicle
fleet, ranging from vans for same-day
courier work and 18 tonne rigids, up
to 44 tonne artics.

Allan McKee
joins Krone
Trailers UK
Krone has appointed a new
Area Sales Manager to join
the UK trailer team.
Allan McKee takes on responsibility
for maintaining existing accounts
and generating new business in the
Northern Home Counties and parts of
the South Midlands, as well as all of
South East & South West of England.
He brings a wealth of industry
experience gained from a number of
senior roles in both the tractor and
trailer supply sectors.
“I’m delighted to join
Krone at this exciting time,
as new trailer products are
introduced to the market.”
Says Allan.

manufacturing strength and an

Allan comes from a family haulage
background and began his career
in the UK CV industry as an Area
Sales Manager at Scania and
soon progressed through the ranks
to become a Director for a Group
that were in haulage, storage,
truck rental & supply as well as
having a strong nationwide contract
maintenance operation.
Later he set up and developed
a trailer export business before
returning to work once again in trailer
sales and cryogenic refrigeration.

Steel transporter finds
all-round loading solution
with Krone Profi Liner
JMP Transport Services, the
midlands-based steel transport
specialist has chosen Krone
to supply their latest trailer
equipment which, say the
company, has moved the
operation to a higher level of
flexibility and secure loading.
“This KRONE Profi Liner is fitted with
a sliding roof, which makes it ideal for
fast and secure loading - especially
when handling pre-painted flat sheet
steel and steel coils.” Says ownerdriver,
John Phillips.
The curtainsiders are also fitted
with KRONE’s standard Multi
Lock loading system, which has
around 130 lashing points along
each side rave. This, in addition
to the Krone Multi Block loading
system, specified by JMP, provides
virtually unlimited strapping options
and allows the cargo to be firmly
secured at any point along the
trailer bed.
“We specialise in high-end, preprepared
steel items,” says John,
“such as garage doors and white
goods. Therefore, I added the Multi
Block option because it means we
can load from front to back and
strap lengthways over the bearers.
This keeps the cargo away from
the bulkhead and prevents any
movement or damage during
transit.”
To cope with heavy loads, the Profi
Liner floor is constructed from fully
waterproofed 30 mm, phenolic
coated plywood and is tested to
DIN standard, EN 283, for forklift
axle loads of up to 7,000k.
As an owner-driver of 31 years,
John comments that his reputation
is mainly built on the reliability of the
transport equipment at his disposal.
Accordingly, his tractor unit, a firstgeneration
