STRING BAND
Larry Christman
Greetings from your Shrine String Band,
I hope your Summer is going well. The String Band’s
season has gotten off to a great start. We played for the
Anglers Annual Fish Fry on June 14th. There was lots
of fun and good fresh fish! The Membership Picnic was
June 25th. It was well attended with fun and fellowship
and getting reacquainted with those we haven’t seen since
last summer. We had a full band (with a little help from our
friends) to entertain all.
We’ve been parading too. The Myerstown Fireman’s
Parade went off with no rain in the afternoon. It seemed
funny to play Myerstown in short sleeves rather than long
underwear and a winter coat. It was well attended and was
interesting to see a lot of our Amish neighbors watching the
parade. I heard there were over 150 fire trucks in attendance.
Thanks to Lois and Butch for hosting a great picnic after the
parade. What a great way to kick off our parade season. Next
was the Lititz Parade which is always well attended. We had a
full float and we could hear the people yelling, “We love you guys!” and
“Keep up the great work!” The Glenside Independence Day Parade is
one of our biggest summer parades. Again, we had a full float.
Remember...There is always an open invitation for musicians to play
in the string band. Rehearsal is the second Wednesday of each month
at 6 pm at the Complex. With the support of our Ladies, our purpose
is that we might play our instruments so that someday a physically
challenged child may walk and play again.
See you at MASA
ORIENTAL BAND
John Grumbein
Thank goodness summer is finally here! It’s now time for picnics, clambakes, fishing, swimming and most of all,
relaxing with a cold camel’s milk or other beverage.
The Oriental Band, along with Lehigh Shrine Club, manned the Redner’s Market on Lehigh Street in Allentown for the annual
Hospital Crusade over the Memorial Day weekend. We could have used a few more helpers, but we got through it. It’s always
interesting to hear so many stories about our hospitals from the public. Just a few hours there makes it all worth while to be a Shriner.
After the Crusade on Saturday, the weary workers all congregated at Sharon and John Grumbein’s home for food, refreshments
and some of that dairy product from the camel mentioned above. We were honored to have Illustrious Sir Dave Evans and his Lady
Sarah drop by along with Jared and Kim Kichline, as well as Kraig and Janet Leiby. We needed a rehearsal for the Cigar Night the
following week. Thank you to all who came out to be with us!
The Band is now taking a
few weeks off this summer.
We need a break.
To all, have a safe summer
vacation season and to all
traveling to MASA, best of
luck and have a safe journey.
We’ll see you “at the beach.”
