Forks of the Delaware TIN LIZZIES
Sam Ellis
The summer began with the Hospital Crusade and the Tin Lizzies worked two
locations this year: Redners Quick Stop, in Northampton and Redners Market in
Easton. It’s always inspiring when someone comes up to you during the crusade
and relates a story of how the Shriners Hospitals helped them, a relative or
someone they know. Regarding our work at the Northampton location, noted local
entertainer Tommy Zito stopped by to show his support for the Shriners Hospital
Crusade and make a donation.
Our Annual Clam Bake took place in mid-July in
Stockertown. It was a great time
with terrific food, Bingo, and
fun with friends. We were happy
to have members of the Divan
join us; Chief Rabban Jared
Kichline, Assistant Rabban Mike
Zerbe, First Ceremonial Master
Kraig Lieby and past Chanters President Les Worley got in a few games of ring toss as
well as enjoying some good food and fellowship.
Thanks to event chairman Ron Barron, Patricia and president Henry Faust, and Sally
and Bruce Johnson for their hard work in making the bake a success. And thanks also to
Ray Barron for calling the Bingo games.
As this story is being written the club is looking forward to the MASA Convention and
the parade in early September.
CONCERT BAND
Bryan Snyder
There are many ways to have fun when you become a Shriner.
You can join the Concert Band or one of the many clubs or units
of Rajah Shrine. All Shriners should seek out these opportunities
at Rajah to celebrate the fun of brotherhood. The Concert Band
unit has Shriner mentors who are ready to talk to you. Let one of
our mentors explain about our unit and our fraternity, the “world’s
greatest philanthropy”, Shriners Hospitals for Children®.
Our Band mentors will aid and assist you with any questions
you may have about our fraternity and help you get acquainted
with other members you may already know. We will help you and
your family become informed and educated about who we are and
what we do. “We play so children can play”.
Some of the fun on our play list for the summer is a free
pubic concert at the Bernville Umbenhauer Park, sponsored by
the American Legion, Inc., a U.S. wartime veterans organization. Next will be
the 42nd Annual Shriner’s Nite at Reading Fightin Phillies, at the at the First
Energy Stadium. We won’t miss a beat and get right into the swing of German
Band music at the Potentates’ Picnic at the South End Gun Club. (After we eat
some corn and clams) Then it’s off to Virginia Beach at Mid-Atlantic Shrine
Convention for the Festival of Music, the Atlantic Parade and jamming in the
hotel lounge. The end of summer fun we shall mark time at the 67th Annual
Pretzel Bowl at the Gene L. Shirk Stadium at Albright College, Reading, PA.
We hope to see you there.
The Concert Band meets on the 2nd Sunday of each month at 1PM at the Rajah Complex. Stop in. Bring your instrument. Or
call President Joe McCarthy, 610-488-1382 or Bryan Snyder, Unit Director 610-589-2022 for schedules and bookings. Our Concert
Band, Dance Band and German Band would love to play for your next event.
