Astellas – FY16 Corporate Social Responsibility Report
“This event really demonstrated to me that anything is possible
after donating an organ or receiving a transplant. A big thank
you to the Games organizers and Astellas for providing us with
the opportunity to volunteer!”
at Canadian Transplant Games
Astellas Pharma Canada employees were excited
to volunteer at the Canadian Transplant Games
that took place in Toronto through the week of
August 8th, 2016.
The week of activities began with Astellas
volunteers greeting athletes as they arrived at
Union Station, helping them with their luggage
and escorting them to waiting shuttles. "It was
great meeting all the athletes before they left to
register for the Games," said Paul Richter, Executive
Product Specialist.
On Tuesday, the Astellas team assisted with the 5
km Cycling Race at Sunnybrook Park – counting
down start times, setting up and manning
signposts along the route, cheering the athletes
on and helping with the medal ceremony. They
also had the opportunity to work side-by-side
with Eileen Zhang, a living donor cycling across
Canada to raise awareness for organ donation. "It
was an inspiring, emotional and very special day
that taught me some life lessons," said Hardip
