Although he’s set up shop in Tribeca, NYC,<br />
the inspiration behind Søren’s designs remains<br />
resolutely Scandinavian.<br />
How did you get started?<br />
I founded my studio back in 2008 after starting several other creative<br />
businesses. Designing furniture and products was something I had<br />
wanted to do my entire life but, being Danish, had always thought that<br />
you needed an academic background in order to do so. I guess it just<br />
took me some years to have the guts to try it out. Then, in 2008, I started<br />
a studio in Copenhagen and found out quite early in the process that<br />
it wasn’t really the place for me to be. I relocated to New York and have<br />
been here since 2011.<br />
How would you describe your design process?<br />
I basically compare it to being a method actor. Every time I do a project,<br />
it’s very anchored in that process. I really try to live an idea, a drama.<br />
You start creating wonderful pieces that are not too thought-out and<br />
not too cliché and that have some really interesting features.<br />
