Jonas-Bjerre Poulsen and Kasper Rønn founded Norm Architects in
2008. At a time when the international design scene was enjoying
a period of extravagance and excess, Norm Architects took a softer,
more stripped-back approach, looking towards Japanese, Shaker and
Bauhaus aesthetics for inspiration.
The firm’s office in central Copenhagen takes on projects that span
architecture, interiors, design and creative direction, all of which are
approached with the same idea in mind: to create timeless, natural-feeling
work with haptic qualities.
“We try to understand basic human biology and psychology—
what it is that makes you feel welcome, regardless of your preferences,
when you walk into a space,” says Jonas. “We think it’s very much
to do with space itself—the walls surrounding you, the daylight
and materials. It should feel cozy and comfortable even if it’s completely
empty.”
It’s a thought that Jonas also applies to our product design and
creative direction as Design Director at MENU. “You can understand
how something tastes, feels and smells with your eyes,” he explains.
Norm Architects’ work spans several creative
fields, including residential and commercial
interiors and furniture design.
