+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Burglary is a major source of crime around the world.
In the US, for example, burglaries happen every 15.4 seconds on average, bagging a total
of around USD 3.7 billion worth of goods a year, most of which will never be recovered.
However, many burglars are opportunists, seeking easy access to properties. These casual
thieves can be deterred by basic home security improvements. In the UK, 2004 — 2005 government
figures show that, while 83% of all households have security locks fitted on
windows, only 36% of burgled homes had window locks fitted. The good news is that more
people are implementing such simple measures. In the UK, efforts aimed at improving home
security, together with better-targeted policing, have led to the number of burglaries
