ATMOSPHERE<br />

Formula E is time<br />

efficient, compressing a<br />

huge amount of activity into a short<br />

race period. From 07.00 on Friday<br />

until 23.00, the day is broken up<br />

into 30-minute chunks. If there’s a<br />

new team member, for example,<br />

they receive vital ‘e-training’ at<br />

08.30 <strong>–</strong> electricity presents its own<br />

challenges and requires attention to<br />

detail that is unique to the series, so<br />

it’s paramount that everyone is fully<br />

briefed at all times.<br />

At 09.30 the FIA begins the<br />

scrutineering process, while the<br />

drivers undertake their track walk<br />

before heading for the mandatory<br />

media activity from 10.30. The cars<br />

are then fully charged between<br />

12.00 and 20.00 ahead of being<br />

given FIA security barcode stickers<br />

and wired seals. By 23.00, parc<br />

fermé conditions apply, and they’re<br />

ready to race.<br />

The racing itself is intense, close<br />

and combative. The Mexican fans<br />

have embraced it, packing the<br />

magnificent stadium section of the<br />

Hermanos Rodríguez track and<br />

creating an electric atmosphere.<br />

However, the following extends far<br />

beyond the stands; an average race<br />

draws around 300,000 live viewers,<br />

while social impressions clock in at<br />

an average of more than 6 million<br />

from Facebook and Twitter alone.<br />

paddle-shift sequential gearbox<br />

gives the drivers the right tools<br />

to boost performance.<br />

POWER UNIT<br />

The I-TYPE is powered by <strong>Jaguar</strong> Racing’s MGU (Motor<br />

Generator Unit), featuring a single synchronous permanent<br />

magnet AC electric machine. It offers 200kw of raw power, and<br />

is supported by <strong>Jaguar</strong> Racing’s MCU (Motor Control Unit) and a<br />

high-efficiency carbon-encased invertor.<br />
