Bennington Carriages Shetland
and Mini Driving Day
Even a sudden down pour and the
rumbling of thunder couldn’t dampen
the enthusiasm of the drivers at
Bennington Carriages second Shetland
and Mini Driving Day.
Billed as “a fun training day for anyone
who drives, or would like to drive, a
Shetland or Mini” it certainly lived
up to this. Lots of new drivers and
turnouts enjoyed the new format,
which started with a dressage and
cones course walk and a driven
dressage demo with Bennington’s
Sue Mart UKCC level 3 coach and her
on-form competition pony Fudge.
Participants then took up the reins
themselves to try the indoor dressage
test and the cones course, and then
following feedback, repeated them. A
slightly trickier cones course included
a few more elements in the afternoon.
As one participant said, “Even the
threat of rain didn’t dampen the day,
good fun as always”. After the rain had
passed, everyone dried out quickly,
and went home happy and inspired
ready for the next stage of their
driving adventure.
Sue Mart said “Everyone improved
greatly and found the format a great
confidence giver. As a result many
drivers are looking to take part in
the Indoor Driving Events during the
winter –good luck to them all we look
forward to following their progress!”

of the comments from participants
following Bennington Carriage Driving
Academy’s latest ‘Try Carriage
Driving’ day on 29 July.
This initiative has been designed to
provide real, hands on experience
driving
proving how easy it is to get involved
and of course, how much fun can be
had! Aimed at the novice, you don’t
need to have previous carriage driving
or riding experience to participate
although many attendees are looking
for a new equestrian challenge.
Each day covers a range of carriage
driving fundamentals, including long
reining, harnessing up, examining
different types of carriage and their
purpose, and of course, driving!
Other comments included “A
thoroughly enjoyable day, everyone
at Bennington was very friendly and
welcoming”. “Lovely horses who were
very obliging and well behaved!”
