horas de conferencias, 18 sesiones de desarrollo profesional y 15 innovadores de ISPA, hicieron los 4
días muy ajetreados. Durante el evento Susie Ellis presentó las conclusiones del informe patrocinado
por GSWS en el Global Wellness Tourism Economy. Yo invitaría a todos a ver el resumen en el sitio

As we get ready to end the year we bring you the last edition of Spa Professional Mexico for 2013. This
issue covers our 3rd annual product awards along with news from the International Spa Association
Conference Expo and part 2 our feature article on Aromatherapy, Nature’s Healing Communication.
Selecting the winners for each category in our product awards is no easy feat, with such great quality
products being submitted for consideration. You’ll find familiar product names, some of which
continue to win their category year on year in addition to some new submissions not previously
covered here in Mexico.
This year’s ISPA Conference & Expo, held at the Mandalay Bay resort in Las Vegas delivered some
really positive news for our industry. With all indicators looking up for the past year and the year
ahead GROW was the appropriate theme for this year’s event. With 45 hours of conference time, 18
professional development sessions and 15 ISPA innovators it was a busy 4 days. During the event
Susie Ellis presented the findings from the GSWS sponsored report on The Global Wellness Tourism

El genial arquitecto del cuerpo
humano nos dio varios sistemas
interactivos para ayudar a mantener
el equilibrio y la armonía, y en
última instancia, la salud radiante.
Estos sistemas, como el nervioso,
respiratorio y digestivo, interactúan
entre sí y responden a los estímulos
del mundo exterior, así como a
nuestro estado emocional interno, y
promueven armonía y el bienestar
en todo el cuerpo a nivel físico,
emocional y mental.
Nuestra percepción del mundo llega
a través de nuestros sentidos y deja
una impresión en nuestro mundo
interior en lo que llamamos nuestras
emociones. Estas emociones son
la puerta de entrada a nuestra
realidad externa, a la forma en que
percibimos y cómo nos relacionamos
con el mundo, y en última instancia,
qué clase de realidad que creamos.
En la forma en que hacemos una
conexión interna con el mundo
exterior, estamos mejorando o
disminuyendo nuestra irradiación
de salud.
Previamente, en la primera parte de
este artículo, vimos que la mente y
el cuerpo se comunican a través de
la liberación de sustancias químicas
naturales o “bio- químicas“, que
viajan a través del cuerpo que llevan
información y crean un vínculo entre
los sistemas principales, la creación
de una conexión entre el cuerpo
y la mente. Nuestras emociones
determinan cuales sustancias
bioquímicas se liberan, inundando
nuestro sistema y uniéndose a sitios
“receptores“ en las células, al mismo
tiempo entregan un “mensaje”
que provoca una reacción. Como
el Dr. Candace Pert explica en su
libro más vendido Las moléculas
de la emoción, “las emociones son
señales celulares que participan en
la traducción literal de información
desde el cerebro hacia la realidad
física, transformando la mente en
materia.”
Dr. Pert explica cómo la mente y el
cuerpo son inseparables, y cómo,
de hecho, la mente “la mente
no domina el cuerpo, sino que se
convierte en el cuerpo” y por lo tanto
es así que las emociones juegan un
papel directo en la confirmación de
bienestar o enfermedad”.
Los aceites esenciales naturales
pueden imitar las sustancias
bioquímicas del cuerpo y el sistema
de comunicación interna. Al viajar
a través del sistema olfativo
directamente a la zona central del
cerebro adonde reside el instinto
y la memoria (el sistema límbico),
y ya que el cuerpo acepta los
aceites esenciales como ya que son
similares a su propia composición
química, los aceites esenciales
pueden crear un profundo efecto
equilibrador.
Los aceites esenciales de plantas
cultivadas de manera natural,
orgánica y sobre todo biodinámica
llevar el mensaje esencial de la
planta hacia el cuerpo, tales como
mensajes de relajamiento, estímulo
o equilibrio. El cuerpo va a interpretar

Nuestro sistema
nervioso está
compuesto de dos
secciones, el sistema
nervioso central (SNC)
y el sistema nervioso
periférico (SNP). El
SNC está compuesto
del cerebro y la
columna vertebral. El
SNP se compone de
todos los nervios que
vienen de nuestras
extremidades y
toman la información
del mundo exterior.
El SNP se divide a su vez en dos: en el sistema somático (todos nuestros movimientos
voluntarios como son las respuestas a nivel muscular y de lo que perciben nuestros sentidos)
y las autónomo (ocurren inconscientemente y son todos nuestros procesos autónomos
internos en los órganos y glándulas, así como la respiración y latido del corazón). El sistema
nervioso autónomo (SNA) es un punto central para todos los instintos, los recuerdos, y
el comportamiento subconsciente. El SNA se divide de nuevo en los sistemas simpático y
parasimpático, que funcionan como el Yin - Yang. El sistema simpático no facilita todas las
respuestas al estrés, y el parasimpático facilita la capacidad del cuerpo para recuperarse
y regenerarse.

la vida vegetal que permite vivificar
y aumentar la calidad, no sólo de la
planta, sino también en el suelo en
el que esta ha crecido.

En nuestro propio sistema de
comunicación interna, somos
afectados de igual manera por los
ritmos naturales del día, el mes
y el año. El Biorritmo del cuerpo
humano sigue un reloj interno que
está en armonía con los ritmos de
la naturaleza. Como un péndulo
nosotros oscilamos durante el día a
través de estos ritmos. Durante el
tiempo de la mañana y la vigilia, 12
a.m. a 12 p.m. el cuerpo comienza
sus procesos lógicos e intelectuales y
se enfoca hacia el exterior liberando
la hormona cortisol, que nos ayuda
a lidiar con el estrés. Desde las 12
p.m. hasta las 12 a.m., empezamos
nuestro proceso interno de descanso
y recuperación, y el cuerpo libera
melatonina, que ayuda en el proceso
de adquirir calma y de relajación. Al
sincronizarnos de manera armónica
con estos ritmos, estamos fluyendo
“con la corriente natural”, en lugar
de que gastar nuestra energía vital
en luchar en contra ella.
Durante las actividades de la
vida diaria, a menudo anulamos
estos ritmos y nos quedamos con
una sensación de agotamiento,
insatisfacción, incluso depresión,
y sobre todo, fuera de contacto
con nuestro cuerpo. Cuando
entendemos que el sistema
nervioso de nuestro cuerpo está
diseñado para tener equilibrio entre
el interior y el medio exterior, entre
el movimiento y el reposo, entre la
vigilia y el sueño, podemos darle
el tiempo y la atención necesaria
a cada una de estas áreas. Dentro
de nuestro sistema nervioso,
tenemos los sistemas simpático
y parasimpático. El simpático es
responsable de la respuesta “ lucha
o huida “, que a principio de nuestra
evolución nos ayudó a sobrevivir a
las condiciones que amenazaban
nuestra vida. Este sistema aún se
activa cuando estamos bajo estrés,
y en esas condiciones se produce
la adrenalina que promueve la
liberación de la energía necesaria a
los músculos con el fin de “luchar“

o correr. El sistema está diseñado
para permitir a continuación,
un período de reposo, que es
cuando el sistema parasimpático
toma el control, esto permite el
descanso y la fase de recuperación,
que tiene lugar principalmente
durante el sueño. Sin embargo,
la vida moderna crea un exceso
de situaciones de estrés, que no
necesariamente amenazan nuestra
vida (el tráfico, los plazos, las
cuestiones financieras etc…), y esto
previene que las fases de descanso y
recuperación se completen. Debido
a la falta de recuperación del estrés
encontramos que nos falta el sueño,
tenemos mala digestión, dolores y
molestias y problemas de salud que
pueden ser más graves (consulte
inserción - El sistema nervioso)
Con el uso de aceites esenciales en
aromaterapia, el equilibrio a nivel
del sistema nervioso puede ser
restaurado. Los aceites esenciales
como lavanda, sándalo, neroli,
bálsamo de limón, y rosa tienen
un efecto calmante y tónico sobre
el sistema nervioso. Otras esencias
como la naranja, toronja y menta
pueden tener un efecto estimulante,
ayudando a compensar cuando
el sistema es lento. Dado que los
aceites esenciales son capaces de
penetrar en el cuerpo a un nivel
celular, los efectos benéficos de los
aceites dejan su huella, creando un
resultado a largo plazo cuando la
células se regeneran. Por lo tanto,
los beneficios de la aromaterapia
son más notables a largo plazo,
creando un efecto sostenido en el
área requerida, ya sea en la mente
en el cuerpo o en las emociones.
La práctica de la aromaterapia
puede ser un camino para toda
la vida, uno que nunca deja de
ofrecer un nivel más profundo de
comprensión de la naturaleza y de
nuestra conexión con ella. El uso de
aceites esenciales en sus distintas
aplicaciones ofrece la oportunidad
de crear una relación más estrecha
con la propia psique, y la conciencia
de la conexión entre la mente y el
cuerpo, que nos puede llevar de
vuelta a la salud radiante.

The human body’s brilliant architect
gave us several interactive systems
to help maintain balance and
harmony, and ultimately radiant
health. These systems, such as our
nervous, respiratory, and digestive
systems, interact with each other
and respond to stimuli from the
outside world, as well as to our
internal emotional state, promoting
harmony and wellness throughout
the body on a physical, emotional,
and mental level.
Our perception of the world comes
to us through our senses and leaves
an impression on our internal
world, our emotions. Emotions
are the gateway to our external
reality, to how we perceive and
how we interact with the world, and
ultimately what kind of a reality we
create. In the way that we make an
internal connection with the outside
world, we are either improving or
depleting our healthy radiance.
Previously, in the first part of this
article, we saw that mind and body
communicate through the release
of natural chemicals or “Biochemicals,”
that travel throughout
the body carrying information
and creating a link between the
major systems, creating a bodymind
connection. Our emotions
determine what bio-chemicals are
released, flooding our system and
attaching to “receptor sites” on the
cells while delivering a message
and triggering a reaction. As Dr.
Candace Pert explains in her bestselling
book Molecules of Emotion,
“emotions are cellular signals
involved in literally translating
information from the brain into
physical reality, ‘mind into matter’.”
Dr. Pert explains how the mind and
body are inseparable, and how in
fact the mind does “not dominate
the body, but rather becomes
the body” and therefore how the
emotions play a direct role on the
well-ness or ill-ness expressed.
Natural essential oils can mimic
the body’s own bio-chemicals and
internal communication system.
By traveling through the olfactory
system directly to the brain’s
central area for instinct and
memory (the limbic system), and
because the body accepts essential
oils as similar to its own chemistry,
the essential oils can create a
profoundly balancing effect.
Essential oils coming from natural,
organic, and even “biodynamic”
resources bring the essential
message from the plant to the body,
messages such as relax, stimulate,
or balance. The body will interpret
this message from the plant as
part of its own communication and
respond accordingly. If the aromatic
substance is not from a natural plant
origin, the brain may not interpret
the message clearly and release
the corresponding chemicals. The
purity of the essential oils leads to
the purity of the message received
by the body.
The quality of essential oil, which
comes from different parts of the
plant, is determined by many
factors, for instance on how and
when the seed is planted, the plant
is harvested, and the parts of the
plant are processed. The ordinary
rhythms of Nature indicate when
these activities should take place
in order to yield the best results,
such as when the essential oils
of a plant are most concentrated.
When farmers pay attention to the
seasons, the location, and even
the phases of the sun, moon, and
planets when they plant and harvest
they are creating a deep synergy
with the plant life that allows for a
greater potential and quality, not
only in the plant but also in the soil
in which it has grown.

In our own internal communication
system, we are affected by similar
natural rhythms throughout the
day, the month, and the year. The
Human Body’s “Bio-rhythms” follow
an internal clock that is in harmony
with the rhythms of nature. We swing
through these rhythms throughout
the day like a pendulum. During
the morning and waking time, from
12am to 12pm, the body begins
its intellectual and logic processes,
focusing outward and releasing the
hormone Cortisol, which helps us
to deal with stress. From 12pm to
12am, we begin our internal process
of rest and recuperation and the
body releases Melatonin, which

Our Nervous System is
comprised of two sections, the
Central Nervous System (CNS)
and the Peripheral Nervous
System (PNS). The CNS is the
Brain and spinal column. The PNS
consists of all the nerves coming
from our extremities, taking
information from the outside
world. The PNS is divided in two
again, into the Somatic (all of
our voluntary movement such
as responses at a muscular
level and to \what our senses
perceive) and the Autonomic (all our internal automatic processes in the organs and glands,
like breathing and heartbeat, which happen unconsciously). The Autonomic Nervous System
(ANS) is a central point for all instincts, memories, and subconscious behavior. The ANS
divides again into the Sympathetic and Parasympathetic systems, which function like Yin –
Yang, the Sympathetic facilitating all stress responses, and the Parasympathetic facilitating
the body’s ability to recover, recuperate, and regenerate.

be in harmony with these rhythms,
we are flowing “with the current”
rather that expending of our vital
energy in fighting it.
During the daily activities of living,
we often override these rhythms and
are left feeling depleted, unsatisfied,
even depressed, and most of all,
out-of-touch with our bodies. When
we understand that our body’s
nervous system is designed to
have balance between external and
internal focuses, between moving
and resting, between waking and
sleeping, we can give the necessary
time and attention to each of
these areas. Within our nervous
system, we have the Sympathetic
and Parasympathetic systems.
The Sympathetic is responsible for
“fight or flight” responses, which
early in our evolution helped us
to survive during life threatening
problems. This system still kicks
in when we are under stress,
releasing adrenaline and giving
the needed energy to the muscles
in order to “fight” or to run. The
system is designed to then allow for
a resting period, which is when the
Parasympathetic system takes over,
allowing for the rest and recovery
phase, which takes place mainly
during sleep. However, modern

life creates an overabundance of
stress situations, which are not
necessarily life threatening (traffic,
deadlines, financial issues), and
preventing the rest and recovery
phase to properly take over. We find
that we are lacking sleep, have poor
digestion, aches and pains, and
often more serious health problems
due to the lack of recuperation from
stress. (See insert – The Nervous
System)
With the use of essential oils in
aromatherapy, this balance at the
level of the nervous system can
be restored. Essential oils such
as Lavender, Sandalwood, Neroli,
Lemon Balm, and Rose all have
a calming or tonic effect on the
nervous system. Other essences
such as the Orange, Grapefruit, and
Mint can have a stimulating effect,
helping to balance out when the
system is slow. Since the essential
oils are able to penetrate into the
body at a cellular level, the beneficial
effects of the oils leave their imprint,
creating a long-lasting result when
the cells regenerate. Therefore the
benefits of aromatherapy are most
noticeable long-term, creating a
sustained effect on the area in
need, be it in the mind, the body, or
the emotions.
The practice of aromatherapy can
be a life-long journey, one that
never stops offering a deeper level
of understanding of Nature and our
connection to it. The use of essential
oils in their many applications
offers a chance to create a greater
relationship to one’s own psyche,
and a conscious awareness of the
connection between mind and body,
leading us back to radiant health.

MySkin es un sistema de consulta de la
piel transdérmico que utiliza el análisis
de la piel y un sistema computarizado
que permite a los esteticistas
diagnosticar y medir con precisión las
condiciones de la piel del cliente antes
y después de un sólo tratamiento facial
o durante un curso de tratamientos.
La tecnología avanzada es segura,
precisa y fácil de usar. El generador
de imágenes de piel transdérmico
utiliza el espectro de la luz visible y los
sensores que recogen la luz reflejada,
un elemento de aumento y una fuente
de luz especial para iluminar las capas
de la piel. La luz visible normalmente
penetra unos cuantos milímetros a
través de la piel y es suficiente para
que los sensores lean y entiendan las
diferentes estructuras y componentes
de la piel de forma segura y no invasiva.
El dermógrafo mide trece diferentes
características de la piel, estas medidas
se utilizan para crear un régimen de
cuidado único de la piel para satisfacer
las necesidades del cliente en función
de la gama de productos y tratamientos
disponibles en el spa. El resumen de
las mediciones de salud de la piel del
cliente, junto con las recomendaciones
de los productos y los tratamientos
pueden ser también enviados al correo
electrónico del cliente para que puedan
monitorear su progreso.
Los Spas pueden elegir entre varias
opciones de hardware y software para
crear una consulta de imágenes de la
piel que optimiza la experiencia del
cliente. Con una estructura de precios
basada en un pago inicial más un alquiler
mensual, el sistema pretende ser un
complemento accesible/costeable para
los servicios de spa que se traduce en
un aumento en los tratamientos y los
ingresos al por menor.
Los resultados de los casos estudiados
presentados por MySkin muestran
incrementos superiores al 50% tanto
en las ventas de productos como en
tratamientos ‘upsales’ (adicionales)
y el 90% de los clientes estuvieron
de acuerdo en que confiaban en las
recomendaciones significativamente
más en comparación con el proceso
de recomendación verbal anterior. Con
consultas que de 8 a 10 minutos por
cliente, ésto podría ser una adición
valiosa para aumentar los ingresos del
spa.

MySkin is a transdermal skin
consultation system that uses skin
analysis and a simple computerized
input system to allow aestheticians
to accurately diagnose and measure
client’s skin conditions before and after
a single facial treatment or during a
course of treatments.
The advanced technology is safe,
precise and easy to use. The
transdermal skin imager utilizes the
visible light spectrum and sensors that
pick up on reflected light, a magnifying
element, and a special light source to
illuminate the skin’s layers. Visible light
typically penetrates a few millimeters
through the skin and is enough for the
sensors to safely and noninvasively
read and understand the various
skin structures and components.
The dermograph measures thirteen
different skin characteristics; these
measures are used to carefully create
a unique skincare regime to meet the
client’s needs based in the product
and treatment range available in the
spa. The summary of the client’s
skin health measurements along
with tailored product and treatment
recommendations can also be sent to
the client’s email so they can monitor
their progress.
Spas can choose from several hardware
and software options to create a skin

the client experience. With a pricing
structure based on a down payment
plus monthly lease the system aims to
be an affordable addition to spa services
that results in increased treatments
and retail revenue.
The results of case studies provided
by MySkin show increases of over
50% in both product sales and

Día 1
Day 1
La jornada tuvo un gran comienzo con algunas estadísticas de
Ella Stimson sobre el crecimiento de nuestra industria, siendo
“crecer”, el tema de la conferencia de este año.
La inspiradora historia de los zapatos de TOMS contada por Blake
Mycoskie sobrevino y creó el ambiente para una gran conferencia.
Las bolsas de regalos colocados en los asientos incluyaban
numerosos placeres, más apreciado por mí fue la Crema de Manos
Pink Moon, de Farm House Fresh, que al instante me la apliqué
para aliviar la piel seca. ¡Realmente no estoy acostumbrado a
tales niveles bajos de humedad!
Una mimosa matutina con las lindas damas de Sanitas Skincare
comenzó en grande el dia, y despúes yo estaba lista para el Piso
de Exhibición.
Mis puntos destacados del piso de exhibición incluyen:
El dispositivo LightStim Antienvejecimiento LED (el cual estoy
ansiosa para probar), una gran bebida de té verde de SEN CHA
para combatir el resfriado inducido por el viaje y el jetlag del que
sufría, y la botellas de vidrio Lifefactory, para reducir los plásticos.
Asistí a una gran sesión del PROYECTO INFUSE, a cargo de Leigh
Weinraub, cuyo entusiasmo contagioso fue una experiencia
placentera mientras ella nos ayudó a aumentar nuestra autoconciencia.
El día terminó con un tratamiento fantástico (Body Journey) de
Sothy’s, dejando la piel suave y perfumada con vainilla.
The day got off to a great start with some statistics from Ella
Stimson on the growth of our industry; ‘GROW’ being the
theme for this year’s conference.
The inspiring story of TOMS shoes told by Blake Mycoskie
ensued and set the mood for a great conference to come.
The gift bags placed on our seats included numerous delights,
most appreciated by me was the Farm House Fresh, Pink
Moon Hand Cream which I instantly applied to soothe my
dry skin. I am really not used to such low humidity levels!
A morning mimosa with the lovely ladies from Sanitas
Skincare certainly made a great start to my day and I was
then ready to tackle the Expo Floor.
My highlights from the Expo Floor include:
The Lightstim Anti-Aging LED device (which I am keen to
start using), a great green tea drink from SEN CHA to battle
my travel and jetlag induced cold and the plastic reducing
Lifefactory glass drinks bottle.
I attended a great PROJECT INFUSE session, delivered by
Leigh Weinraub whose infectious enthusiasm was a delight
to be around as she helped us increase our self-awareness.
The day ended fantastically with a lovely Sothy’s Body
Journey treatment leaving my skin soft, and fragrant with
vanilla.

Hoy el día empezó con la presentación de Susie Ellis del estudio
Global Turismo Bienestar, encargado por el GSWS y que fue
presentado en la última reunión cumbre celebrada a principios
de este mes en Nueva Delhi, India. Los resultados son positivos
e inspiradores para nuestra industria, sobre todo aquí en
México, donde podemos entregar estas grandes experiencias de
bienestar y vacaciones de spa.
La Sesión General comenzó con el premio a Mary Bemis por
su contribución a nuestra industria y siguió con 3 oradores
carismáticos sobre Mente, Cuerpo y Espíritu.
Mis puntos destacados del piso de exhibición incluyen:
Miracle Lips de Holocuren, la forma natural de curar y tratar
los labios secos, la sistema de suministro de oxígeno de
Intraceuticals y sus sueros nutritivos, y el nuevo colección
Spa de ME! Bath que huele lo suficientemente rico como para
comerse.
El punto culminante de la tarde fue sin duda la sesión entregado
por Megan Fitzgerald sobre los medios sociales. Nunca he visto
tanta información útil entregada en tan poco tiempo por alguien
con un verdadero deseo de tan sólo ayudar.
La subasta en vivo fue tan entretenida como siempre, con
Lawrence Biscontini como anfitrión y los grandes nombres de
‘retreat spas’ como Rancho la Puerta y Mii amo, luchando para
regalar cada vez más en el apoyo de la fundación del ISPA.
Today started with Susie Ellis’ presentation of the Global
Wellness Tourism study, commissioned by the GSWS and
presented at the latest summit meeting held earlier this month
in New Delhi, India. The results are positive and inspiring for
our industry, particularly here in Mexico where we can deliver
such great wellness experiences and spa vacations.
The General Session commenced with the award to Mary
Bemis for her contribution to our industry and followed with 3
charismatic speakers on Mind, Body and Spirit.
My highlights from the expo floor include:
Miracle Lips from Holocuren, the natural way to heal and treat
dry lips, Intraceuticals’ innovative oxygen delivery system and
nourishing serums, and the new ME! Bath spa collection that
smells good enough to eat.
The afternoon’s highlight was most certainly the session
delivered by Megan Fitzgerald on social media. I have never
seen so much useful information delivered in such a short
space of time from someone with such a genuine desire just
to help.
The live auction was as entertaining as always with Lawrence
Biscontini hosting and the big names in retreat spas such as
Rancho la Puerta and Mii amo, battling to give away more and
more in support of the ISPA foundation.

Day 3
Nuestro último día tuvo un buen comienzo con Bill Rancic,
empresario y ganador de la primera temporada de ‘The
Apprentice’, hablando de la agilidad en los negocios y el espíritu
empresarial.
Dimos la bienvenida a Michael Tompkins como nuestro nuevo
presidente ISPA mientras aplaudimos a Ella Stimson por su
cumplimiento con la función de presidente por los últimos 2
años.
Mis puntos destacados del piso de exhibición incluyen:
La nueva colección del cuidado corporal Guayaba de Pure Fiji,
demostrado por 2 maravillosamente feliz terapeutas de Fiji que
cantaban y bailaban mientras realizaban un ritual para pies con
el guayaba. Tal vez podríamos ofrecer algo similar en México,
inspirado por las tradiciones Mayas o Aztecas?
Me encantó el nuevo carrito móvil de COOLA , ofreciendo
protección solar sobre la playa o junto a la piscina, Chris nos
mostró los productos más vendidos de su marca. Esto funcionaría
muy bien en nuestros spa resorts yo creo!
Mi día, y la conferencia terminaron en una nota alta con un facial
hidratante y estimulante de Sanitas, que incorpora el dispositivo
de limpieza Clarisonic y Clarisonic Opal para aumentar la
penetración del producto alrededor de los ojos - un tratamiento
muy apreciado después de varios días en el desierto .
Todo lo que queda ahora es la fiesta de despedida donde nos
socializaremos (y tal vez bailar un poco) en la discoteca ‘Light’
de Mandalay Bay.

Our final day got off to a strong start with Bill Rancic,
entrepreneur and winner of the first season of The Apprentice,
talking about agility in business and the entrepreneurial
mindset.
We welcomed in Michael Tompkins as our new ISPA chairman
as we applauded Ella Stimson for her fulfillment of the role
over the last 2 years.
Highlights from the expo floor today include:
Pure Fiji’s new Guava body care collection demonstrated by
2 wonderfully happy Fijian therapists who sang and danced
while they performed a guava foot ritual. Perhaps we could
offer something similar in Mexico drawing on Mayan or Aztec
traditions?
I loved the new COOLA beach or poolside sun care cart that
was wheeled around the show by Chris, showcasing his
brand’s bestsellers. This would fare very well in our resort spas
I believe!
My day, and the conference, ended on high note with a lovely
hydrating and stimulating facial with Sanitas, who incorporate
the Clarisonic cleansing device and the Clarisonic Opal to
increase product penetration around the eyes, a treatment
much appreciated after a few days in the desert.
All that’s left now is the farewell party where we’ll socialize
and network (and perhaps dance a little) in Light nightclub,
Mandalay Bay.

El Village Spa inspirado en los guardianes
de energía de la civilización maya, que

son conocidos por preservar su sabiduría
milenaria a través de las generaciones.
La leyenda dice que Chaac, el dios de
la lluvia y la prosperidad, encarna el
rejuvenecimiento integral del alma como
una de las principales guías espirituales
que simboliza los cuatro puntos cardinales.
Su identidad está representada con la
letrs T, forma de las lágrimas que caían
de sus ojos e invocó estos cuatro puntos
cardinales que tocó el Ukux kaj o corazón
del cielo.
A través de este Dios, los mayas creían
obtener buenas cosechas. Durante
los días de sequía ser realizaba una
ceremonia especial a favor de Chaac
para eliminar cualquier negatividad en
el aire. La ceremonia consistía en lanzar
ofrendas en el agua como símbolo de
purificación, mientras cantaban las
solicitudes de una cosecha abundante.
Estos rituales han sido diseñados tanto
por el arte maya como por la magia de
sus costumbres, logrando con ello el
envolvimiento completo de los sentidos y
el florecimiento de un camino a la final de
bienestar.
Village Spa cuenta con 8 cabinas de
tratamientos, 2 de ellas para parejas,
y los otros 6 son individuales. Cada
una de las 8 cabinas se llaman tikales
y representan uno de los elementos
naturales: Tierra - lu’um, Fuego - k’aak’,
Aire - jik’, Agua - ha’, Sol - k’jin, Cielo -
ka’an, Luna – uh, Estrella – eek. El spa
tambien ofrece Jacuzzi, Cuarto de vapor,
Laguna Caliente/Fría y Regaderas suizas.
The Village Spa was inspired by the energy
guardians of the Mayan civilization, which
is considered one of the most developed
cultures of ancient times. These ancient
settlers of Mesoamerica are known for
preserving their millenarian wisdom
through generations.
The legend states that Chaac, the god
of rain and prosperity, embodied the
integral rejuvenation of the soul. As one
of the main spiritual guides, he symbolized
the four cardinal points. His identity is

of purification, while chanting requests for

designed as much by Mayan art as by the
magic of their customs, thus achieving

senses and the blossoming of a path to
ultimate well-being.
Village Spa has 8 rooms for treatments,
2 of them are for couples, and the other
6 are single rooms. Each of the 8 Cabins
are called Tikales and represent one of
the various natural elements: Land -
lu’um, Fire - k’aak’, Air - jik’, Water - ha’,
Sun - k’jin, Heaven - ka’an, Moon – uh,
Star – eek. The Spa also offers Jacuzzi,
Steam room, Hot/Cold Lagoon and Swiss
