Shopping in Freiburg
A stroll through the lively old town of Freiburg is very worthwhile. Here, alongside large stores
and specialised shops you will also fi nd fashion boutiques, perfumeries, jewellery shops,
book shops, art and antiques stores, and toy or leather stores. In one of the many souvenir
shops you are guaranteed to fi nd a postcard that captures Freiburg’s charm perfectly.
Numerous side streets, or “Gässle”, divert from the main shopping street and invite you to
are sure to catch your attention; this network of tiny open canals runs through the entire city.
Stroll through the weekly market located on Münsterplatz and visit the colourful booths on the Franziskanerstrasse,
where North African and Indian goods are on sale, or stroll through the large shopping arcades like
the Black Forest City (Schwarzwald City - Schiffstrasse) the Karlsbaupassage/ Karlsbau arcade (Karlsplatz) and the
Bursengang (Rathausgasse).
These shopping streets are worth visiting
Here you will fi nd a variety of smaller shops which offer everything from art supplies to jewelry and ladies’ and
men’s fashion.
• Bertoldstraße
Bertoldstrasse leads past bookshops, the town theatre, and Cinemaxx Movie Palace.
20 enterprises offer an international range of foods, apart from select champagnes, fresh fi sh, and vegetables.
These two parallel streets invite you to stroll and linger. Hotels, restaurants and myriad small boutiques can be found
