Audi’S new rs5
new RS5 was released on the first Tuesday of the
2017 Geneva Auto Show. As we predicted, the V8 has
been swapped for a grunty twin-turbocharged V6. The 2.9
L V6 is rated to 450 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of
torque. The 0-100kmh sprint is completed in 3.9 seconds.
The engine is paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission
and drives all four wheels via a rear-biased all-wheel-drive system.
Buyers will also be able to opt for Audi’s sport differential
at the rear -which splits torque between the rear wheels for
even better handling.
Audi is also proud to highlight the more distinctive styling
AudiAudi’s
of the RS5, which has been implemented to further differentiate
the Audi Sport models from the regular Audi fleet. The
designers took inspiration from the 90 quattro IMSA GTO
race car of the late ‘80s, and added massive air intakes (with
a honeycomb structure up front), and pumped fenders that add
approximately 0.6 inches of width compared to the stock A5.
19-inch wheels are standard, with a 20-inch version as optional.
Three appearance packages will be offered: Gloss Black,
Carbon, and Matte Aluminium. Whichever is picked, there’s
a wider, flatter version of Audi’s signature single-frame grille,
while new lateral air intakes and outlets flank the headlamps
– with the option of being switched out for Matrix LED lights.
