Independent Careers Advice
We have a team of qualified, expert
and independent careers advisors,
something many schools can no longer
afford. Working with you from day one,
they’ll help you map out your future
and make good decisions: whether
that’s applying for a job, supporting your
university application or helping you
fast-track to an apprenticeship.
You can make an appointment with
them while you’re still at school to help
you decide what to do when you leave
or drop in to see them at any of our
enrolment events.

Our intu Metrocentre store is pretty
special. It gives our talented young
entrepreneurs the opportunity to
test and market their products and
showcase their retail flair.
It's also a place for students to gain
valuable work experience and we
employ retail apprentices too.

JobLab is our bespoke website
dedicated to guiding you through
the process of getting on the right
track to the career you want. Packed
full of advice and top tips on topics
such as getting your first job, going to
university and even setting up your own
business, the site also advertises job
vacancies, including part time work,
apprenticeships, work placements
and volunteering opportunities.

With a network of over 450 employers,
we will give you an inspirational work
experience placement that helps build
the valuable skills employers want and
provide practical examples for university
applications. Many of our students
have secured full time jobs with their
placement employer; so could you!

Talented IT student
Adam Coates has
launched his own
business while studying
Software Development.
He took part in a design
competition at college
and was chosen to sell his
products at the handPICKED
store in intu Metrocentre.
Adam developed t-shirt designs
using the word ‘Tyne’ and striking
illustrations of landmarks from
the riverside as well as the iconic
Angel of the North.
He was able to launch his
business thanks to a small
start-up loan from Gateshead
College which he will pay
back in manageable instalments
with any profits used to further
develop his products and
business.
