Introduction to
Hair & Beauty
Duration

Entry requirements
You’ll need good communication
skills, plenty of enthusiasm and the
ability to work with other people.
What will I learn?
This course is ideal if you’re not
sure if hairdressing or beauty
therapy is for you as you’ll get a
taste of both, then the opportunity
to choose the path you prefer.
You’ll gain the basic skills you need
to get started as well as developing
communication skills and your
creativity. Training in our salon,
you’ll also take up a placement
one day a week in a professional
salon. You can progress to our
Level 2 programmes.
Hairdressing
Level 1
Duration
1 year
Entry requirements
You’ll need good communication
skills and will need to attend an
interview.
What will I learn?
You’ll work in our professional salon
on paying clients.
With a focus on hairdressing
techniques, you’ll develop skills
in colour enhancement, plaiting
and twisting, cutting techniques,
creative styling and the art of
dressing. You’ll undertake a work
experience placement one day
a week to help develop your
communication and creativity
skills and have the chance to enter
national competitions.
On completion you can progress
to our Level 2 in hairdressing.
Cutting and Styling Services
Level 2
Duration
1 year
Entry requirements
Four GCSE grades at C/4 or above
or equivalent, including English and
maths.
What will I learn?
This Level 2 course aims to provide
you with a range of essential
technical practical skills and
knowledge, which will equip you
to seek either further training or
employment as a junior stylist.
The skills include carrying out
services such as shampooing,
conditioning, styling, finishing and
setting hair, cutting, plaiting and
twisting.
Following successful completion
of this qualification you will be
qualified to work in a number of
employment destinations such
as hairdressing salons, hotels or
cruise ships.
Hairdressing
Level 3
Duration
1 year
Entry requirements
Four GCSE grades at A*-D (9-3)
including English and maths.
What will I learn?
You'll spend a year with us
developing the skills and
knowledge required in today's
fast paced, creative hairdressing
industry.
You'll study and develop
advanced skills in hairdressing
consultation services, cutting
techniques, creatively colouring,
hair colour correction, creative
styling and dressing, hair
extensions and hair design.
Working as part of our professional
team in our commercial salon,
you will have the opportunity to
perfect your customer care skills
and understand what it means to
work as part of an effective team,
dealing with paying clients.
You will also have the opportunity
to build up your own portfolio
of work and enter regional and
national competitions at which
our past students have enjoyed
phenomenal success.
Hairdressing & Beauty Therapy
You will be working
in an industry standard,
professional salon,
designed to rival the
very best commercial
salons in the area.
