WT Kitchen & Bathroom Supplement
Old World Comforts: In Claire Basler’s
bathroom, she has a generously sized vintage
claw foot bathtub. Her trademark giant floral
paintings, in this case irises on a silver canvas,
provide a beautiful backdrop to bathe by. Linen
towels hang from an old towel rail, heated by a
shapely antique radiator.
Reincarnate Key Pieces: An elegant,
modern, square-legged side table becomes a
practical bathing aid in Tim Rundle’s bathroom. On
top, a vintage silver jug and soap dish reside, adding
glinting, pretty accessories. Here, tiles play with
proportion: large square floor tiles juxtapose with
the tiny taupe and white mosaic tiles on the walls.
The bath, painted in taupe, continues the natural,
neutral feel. The large floor-to-ceiling window
brings in the natural world, making this the perfect
urban space in which to relax and reflect.
There’s nothing quite like slipping into the warm, scented water of
your own private oasis. Statistics show we spend three years of our life
bathing, so investing some thought in the bathroom is well worth it.
Bathrooms are our own private spaces, where we relax, wash and
get ready to face the world or bid the day goodnight. Modern vintage
bathrooms blend the best of contemporary conveniences with the
beautiful classics the past has given us. The result is very, very relaxing.
Modern life has given us the mod-cons that make a bathroom comfortable,
yet it’s the old things, like the feel of a big brass tap/faucet, a sofa-sized
bathtub, or the deluge of water that rains on you from a large Victorian
rose head, which can make them truly luxurious. When it comes to
designing your modern vintage bathroom, again it’s about contrast. Choose
vintage or reproduction centrepieces (bathtub, lavatory, basi) to suit a fresh
modern setting, or make your centrepieces chic and sleek, accessorising
with traditional wall and floor finishes, or vintage textile accessories.
