TAURIKO BUSINESS ESTATE
The evolution of a local business…
Tasman Aluminum has been
manufacturing Aluminium Windows
and Doors in Tauranga since 1976.
Company founder John Lear was
a keen sailor and he named the
company after the Tasman sea.
Aluminum joinery in the
late 1970’s was a new
horizon. Windows and
doors in New Zealand were
largely made in timber frames
with some steel options available.
Aluminum was a great
development as the product
was light, durable and it didn’t
rust or rot.
When Tasman Aluminum
began, windows were selected
from the standard range
of sizes, they were ordered
from the factory in Auckland
and delivered to the local
manufacturer in a kitset box.
There were two colour options
Anodized Bronze or Silver.
The 1980’s saw the development
of the sliding door to
a full aluminium frame and
the biparting sliding door was
introduced to allow for a wider
opening.
The colour options expanded
to White and Coffee with
the introduction of the Powder
Coat finish. Windows and doors
moved from standard sizes to the
make to measure we use today.
Tasman Aluminum manufactured
Windows and Doors
under the Lyte brand during
the 80’s and 90’s and became
skilled in commercial joinery.
The company has worked on
some of Tauranga’s biggest
building projects. The late
1990’s saw major development
in Mount Maunganui with the
Twin Towers, the Beaumont and
the Atrium being completed.
By the early 2000’s the
range of aluminium joinery
had expanded to bifolding
doors, stacker sliding doors
and a variety of aluminium
and glass entry doors.
The Powder coat finish on
the aluminium became standard
with the increase in colour
choice to more than 30 colours.
Hardware ranges started
to expand as more companies
entered the market offering
new door handles and window
catches.
In 2000 Tasman Aluminum
joined the Fairview Windows
and Doors family and continued
its growth to become one
of New Zealand’s largest aluminium
joinery manufacturers.
In recent years, the biggest
developments in Windows and
Doors in New Zealand have
been around the Glass.
The size of windows and
doors has increased substantially
and double glazing has
become a standard feature in
New Zealand houses.
The colour of the glass with
products like the Low E coating,
will reduce the transfer of
heat and glare from outside to
inside.
The strength and safety of
glass has also improved with
toughened glass used in high
traffic and potentially dangerous
areas of the home like
bathrooms and ensuites.
This year Tasman
Aluminium completed the
ACG Tauranga Gymnasium.
This state of the art building
includes indoor sports facilities,
catering and event space
and flexible classrooms for the
school. It is a great asset for
the Tauranga community who
will also be able to use it.
Tasman Aluminium moved
to the Tauriko business park in
January 2016 and has recently
rebranded.
This change from blue to
red reflects the Fairview brand
of Windows and Doors that
we produce. The company has
been manufacturing Fairview
Windows and Doors for 17
years.
Tasman Aluminium still
has the same great team making
the same great products for
residential homes and commercial
buildings.
