THE COLLEGE
CHARITIES
During their time at Churcher’s College, many
students voluntarily engage in fund raising activities
for local, national and international charities. Charity
work at Churcher’s runs throughout the school
and is led by the House system. In the Sixth Form
pupils are encouraged to continue to lead the
House Charity but also to consider charities that
are personal to them. The Sixth Form head up the
College Charity Committee which this year has
included fundraising for our school in Mude in Nepal
(United World Schools project).
Active as always, we have also seen some new
initiatives recently such as ‘Living below the line’
where groups of Sixth Formers have lived on £1 a
day for a week to raise awareness of global poverty.
They also were able to raise awareness and money
through ‘Movember’. The Upper Sixth took part in
a charity fancy dress dodge ball competition which
many members of the lower school came to watch.
To top off a very successful ‘Movember’ campaign, a
few select staff got together and performed as the
‘Mobro’ choir singing ‘Let it grow’. Keeping up the
sporting and fancy dress theme, fancy dress netball
matches were played later on in the term to raise
awareness for breast cancer. All participants were
encouraged to wear as much pink as possible and it
appeared that lots of fun was had on both occasions.
We also had an excellent Mexican lunch to raise
money for World Schools. Individuals have also
championed charities such as the swim around the
Isle of Wight for Cancer Research, and ‘Hellrunner’
for sudden unexpected death in epilepsy, are
examples of such events from this year.
Charity work within the Sixth Form has seen students
form new friendships for a common cause. It also
encourages teamwork and often informs pupils
throughout the school of the needs of others.
