ANCIENT
HISTORY

Ancient History is the study of the history
and culture of the Classical Greek and
Roman world. No prior knowledge of the
Classical World or of Latin of Classical Greek
is needed, just an enthusiasm and interest
for it.
This course enables students to study
a variety of Classical topics, studying
fascinating and highly relevant issues, from
the birth of democracy to the end of the
Roman republic. Pupils will investigate
classical sources in their Ancient world
context and learn to interpret, analyse and
produce reasoned conclusions about various
themes and topics.
Ancient History is an extremely stimulating,
varied and challenging course which
combines a wide range of skills: reasoned
argument, historical and archaeological
analysis. The ability to analyse original
evidence carefully, assess its validity and
come to reasoned conclusions are essential
and transferable skills that the subject
demands. Students will gain a knowledge
and understanding of selected aspects
of Classical history and understand the
continuing influence of the classical world on
current times.
Students will develop the critical and
evaluative skills essential for study at
University. It is an academically rigorous
subject that is well considered amongst
universities and employers alike.
