For some, Hugh Hefner was a pioneer. But he
also made headlines over controversies. The last
one in 2016, when he was included in a lawsuit
as an accomplice to a sexual assault allegedly
committed by friend Bill Cosby at the Playboy
Mansion. It is no surprise, them, that after his
death there have been many remembrances
but also articles about the darkest chapters of
Hefner’s life.
Hugh Hefner, the man who created
Playboy, passed away on September
27th at the age of 91.
The first issue of Playboy was published in
1953, when Mr. Hefner was 27, publishing
the first photos of nude female centrefolds.
He was credited with leading a sexual
revolution but at the same time, others
criticised him for placing men at the center
of said revolution and objectifying women.
He fought for reproductive rights and he
claimed that the magazine contained far
more than centerfolds. In fact, Playboy
influenced culture, and claims that people
actually bought the magazine to read it are
only partly a joke considering it also
specialized in long interviews with the
likes of Fidel Castro or Frank Sinatra.
“RIP to the legendary Hugh Hefner!” wrote
Kim Kardashian, who posed for the
magazine in 2007. “I’m so honored to have
been a part of the Playboy team! You will be
greatly missed! Love you Hef! Xoxo.”
Hefner was laid to rest beside Marilyn Monroe
in a private funeral ceremony at Westwood
Village Memorial Park as he wished. Hefner
had purchased a crypt beside Monroe back in
1992.
As for his fortune, it is rumoured to be split
between his kids and a variety of charities.
Crystal Harris Hefner won’t be willed any of
her late husband’s estimated $45 million
fortune. But thanks to a prenup agreement
signed before getting married back in 2012, the
31-year-old still stands to inherit $5
millionand a Hollywood mansion.
