Former head of sector for the Bank of<br />

England’s cyber functions, Phillip Larbey,<br />

and colleagues Anthony Long and Fiona<br />

Paterson joined NCC Group to head the<br />

company’s new Centre for Evolved Nextgeneration<br />

Threat Assurance (CENTA).<br />

Phillip Larbey, associate director of NCC<br />

and managing principal of CENTA, said:<br />

“If countries are to achieve a consistent<br />

unified approach with regards to cyber<br />

resilience and the implementation of best<br />

practice, it’s important to start taking the<br />

relevant steps at ground-level to prime us<br />

bought Lincolnshire firm Lindum Fire<br />

Services in 2002. He’s been involved with<br />

industry bodies, as a technical committee<br />

member at the British Standards Institute,<br />

and British Fire Consortium chairman.<br />

appointed Paul<br />

Atkinson as a new<br />

technical sales<br />

engineer. Paul has<br />

experience of intruder,<br />

fire and CCTV<br />

systems, most recently<br />

within the pharmaceuticals industry. He<br />

originally trained as a carpenter and<br />

joiner, gaining a City & Guilds before<br />

studying for a C&G electrical engineering<br />

qualification leading to a 23-year career in<br />

electronic security. He reports into<br />

business development manager Russell<br />

Director of the year<br />

At a dinner the evening after the Retail<br />

Risk conference in Leicester last month,<br />

Tim Edwards of JD Sports was named<br />

director of the year. Among other awards,<br />

Express Gifts was made online profit<br />

protection team of the year (runner-up;<br />

The Body Shop); and Game Retail the<br />

in-store profit protection team (runner-up;<br />

Compass Group UK and Ireland). More<br />

Incentive Lynx Security, part of<br />

Incentive FM Group, has<br />

appointed Conrad Dean as its new<br />

Managing Director. Conrad,<br />

pictured, joins the security<br />

contractor from Mitie’s Client<br />

Services division, where he also<br />

held the role of Managing<br />

Director. His previous positions<br />

include Customer Business Director at Johnson<br />

directors of Titan Labs, in Malvern, which is<br />

opening an office in Milton Keynes. Titan is<br />

developing a cloud-based software, using<br />

algorithms to help detect threats. The product,<br />

Titan View, is due for launch shortly. They have<br />

been using income from consultancy work to fund<br />

the company, but plan to seek backing from<br />

investors after launch for work on artificial<br />

intelligence and machine learning. Rob Brewer<br />

says: “The cyber security threat is growing<br />

exponentially and regular attacks are bringing<br />

chaos to organisations at all levels. Big firms can<br />

spend six-figure sums on hiring teams of<br />

professionals. However it is a real problem for<br />

small firms who typically have one person to<br />

manage all aspects of their IT.”<br />

Event talk: Richard Latham, Head of Security at The<br />

O2 at Greenwich did not have far to go when he<br />

gave a talk at an event safety and security day last<br />

month as ILMC ran it at the Intercontinental Hotel<br />

– The O2, down the road. Other speakers included<br />

Andy Palmer, Border Security Lead, Gatwick<br />

Airport; and Duncan Cullen, former Leicestershire<br />

Police superintendent, now business development<br />

manager at event security firm TSG.<br />

has 14 years’ experience.<br />

He was at G4S. His focus<br />

has been on delivering<br />

risk assessments and risk<br />

analysis products for<br />

transnational clients, and<br />

providing and supporting<br />

fee-paying consultancy<br />

work in several industries. His areas of expertise<br />

include the application of Risk Management and<br />

the Risk Assessment cycle (ISO 31000), Crime<br />

Prevention Through Environmental Design<br />

(CPTED), Situational Crime Prevention and<br />

counter-terrorism. Alan has several academic<br />

qualifications including an MSc in Security and<br />

Risk Management from Leicester Security, and<br />

ASIS’ CPP. He has done research and consultancy<br />

for the Home Office and the SIA.<br />
